One day after the events at the K3 restaurant, Conan, Ran, Kogoro, accompanied by Heiji and Kazuha, wait for the shinkansen back to Tokyo. Ran calls Shinichi about Ray Curtis' arrest, as the boy feigns his surprise about his idol's fall from grace. Before Shinichi can hang up, Ran asks him to wait. She recalls Sonoko's question at the department store, asking if she wants to know how Shinichi feels about her. Supported by Kazuha's encouragement, Ran hesitantly begins to ask, but is interrupted by her train's roaring arrival. Shinichi, seeing that Ran is no longer saying anything, bids farewell, leaving Ran blushing and Kazuha unsatisfied.<br>
 +
Once the Tokyo trio is properly seated, Kazuha pounds the window from outside the Shinkansen and shouts at Ran to approach her romantic pursuits by forgoing breaking pitches and instead purely focus on throwing fastballs down the middle. Ran fakes a smile to show that she has understood.<br>
 +
Seconds later, Ran hears voice murmuring the opposite, saying that throwing fastballs is risky. The groups turns to find sergeant Takagi pacing down the aisle in deep thought. Takagi explains that he and Sato are on a mission to escort an apprehended drug dealer, named Senzo Ogura, back to Tokyo. They expect his interrogation will yield the necessary information to bring down his criminal syndicate. As she explains this to Conan and company, Sato looks at Ogura expectantly, but Ogura remains emotionless and tells her dully that he wants coffee. Sato thus sends Takagi to buy coffee. While the sergeant checks his pocket for coins, he drops his ticket to Kazumi Sanada's magic show. Sato is surprised that Takagi likes such things, and the latter explains that Yumi, who had a spare ticket, had asked him to go with her. Sato expresses casual happiness for him, which disappoints Takagi. In truth, his planned "date" with Yumi was a lie. Yumi had formed a plan for Takagi to gauge Sato's feelings by observing her reaction to their date. She had told him that, with Sato, one must first test her with breaking pitches, not fastballs.  <br>

As the Shinkansen approaches Mount Fuji, Conan and company notice a train attendant talking to Takagi and Sato in a serious manner. Sato leaves her seat to inspect the bathroom, finding a bag claiming to contain a bomb. Back at the seats, a group of passengers pass Takagi and Ogura, and the latter notices some sort of signal from one of them. Ogura tells Takagi that he needs to use the bathroom urgently, to which Takagi reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, the bag begins to make a sound, sparking panic amongst the observing crowd. However, Sato pulls the zipper open and only finds a normal alarm clock. She begins interviewing passengers about the prank's perpetrators.  <br>
 +
As train enters a tunnel, Takagi takes one of the handcuffs off Ogura and connects it to himself so that Ogura is able to use the bathroom. Several minutes after Ogura’s entry, Takagi impatiently asks whether he is done. Ogura grins and tells him that the police will be unable to obtain any information from him, for he will soon turn into a speechless bird. Concerned Takagi, throws the door open, and is astounded by the sight of Ogura having stabbed himself in the stomach. Takagi tries to call with Sato by phone, but fails to get a signal due to the tunnel. He has thus no choice but to transfer the handcuffs from himself to the railing, and leave Ogura on the toilet while he runs to get Sato. Conan, who is by Sato's side, overhears Takagi’s words and rushes to the toilet with the two police officers. Upon their arrival, they find Ogura dead with the bloody knife beside his inanimate body.

Takagi endures Megure's ire as he is blasted over the phone for his grave mistake. Kogoro and Sato debate the sergeants fate, floating the possibility of job dismissal. Takagi receives a call from Yumi asking about the results of their plan; he immediately squashes the conversation due to the severity of the situation.<br>
 +
Conan finds the knife beside the body pointing in a strange direction, and the coagulation of only some of the blood in the toilet. From these two clues, Sato deduces that Ogura has been murdered. She hypothesizes that the murderer planted the fake bomb in the other bathroom to act as a diversion. With one officer busy inspecting the bomb, a conspirer could more easily relay a message to Ogura in the seats, directing him to fake his suicide in the bathroom. A fake knife and bag of anticoagulant-infused blood was prepared inside of the bathroom to realistically portray a stabbing. Naturally, the accompanying officer would temporarily leave Ogura alone to call for help, giving the murderer plenty of time to enter the bathroom, kill Ogura, and destroy any remaining evidence.<br>
 +
Takagi agrees with Sato’s deduction, but points out that transmitting a message which must communicate several complex steps is a rather difficult task. Sato replies that the message could have been as short as “go to the bathroom” because of two reasons. First, between the two bathrooms near Ogura, one had just been searched by Sato, and thus could not be the one that the murderer was referencing. And second, the message did not need to explicitly state what to do, but rather that there was hidden in the toilet; instinct would suffice.<br>
 +
Therefore, remaining problem for Sato and Takagi is that they do not know who communicated with Ogura. Conan knows the answer to the first question; he carefully made observations of the people passing by Takagi and Ogura after Sato had left. Thus, thanks to him, Sato and Takagi are able to quickly find three suspects: Tatsuro Iwakuni, Norio Tokuyama and Akira Akashi. According to Conan and Iwakuni’s recollections, Akashi and Iwakuni were both holding newspapers when they passed Ogura, and Tokuyama was holding a bottle of canned coffee. Tokuyama had then picked up his own newspaper once he returned to his seat. Sato and Conan study the suspects' four items. Sato does not seem to find anything notable, and Conan is also initially stuck. However, he is eventually able to notice something important.<br>
 +
Meanwhile, Takagi explains the situation to the suspects. They all conclude that the police do not have a good reason to suspect them, and are all vehement in their refusal to cooperate once the train reaches Tokyo. Sato and Takagi, knowing that there is little time left, become quite dismayed, but Conan, after learning that Kogoro bought canned coffee, cigarettes, a newspaper about sports (same copy held by Iwakuni), and a newspaper about horse racing (same copy held by Akashi), at Osaka Station, he becomes confident that he has all the information needed to solve the case.

While traveling home on the Shinkansen from Osaka, Conan, Ran, and Kogoro ran into Officers Sato and Takagi, who were transporting a criminal. Later, a bomb was found on the train which Officer Sato went to investigate. At that time, while she was in the bathroom with it, Officer Takagi had to take the criminal to the bathroom. And then, he apparently committed suicide but...

The Shinkansen arrives at Tokyo Station and the suspects strongly voice their desire to be dismissed. With the answers still out of their reach and Takagi's job security in extreme jeopardy, Kogoro assures him that he will gladly hire him as his assistant. Suddenly, Kogoro's face contorts and he falls against the wall. Conan positions himself behind the detective and begins his deduction.

Kogoro begins by reaffirming Sato’s previous deductions. He adds that the murderer told Ogura to head to the bathroom by using the newspaper that he was holding. By holding the newspaper sideways and between his arm, the contents of the articles would be covered and the article's titles were fully displayed. Kogoro declares the title of concern to be the one saying “World Cup Hero Under Police Interrogation,” and explains that the only thing that the murderer had to do was to point at the words “World Cup” in order for Ogura to notice its initials, "W.C." Note that the initials for bathroom are also "W.C." Therefore, the murderer is the one who bought a sports newspaper: Akira Akashi. Sato doubts the validity of this inference by pointing out that the connection between “World Cup” and “bathroom” is not that strong, and Kogoro agrees. He argues that precisely because of this reason, Akashi left the fake bomb in another bathroom. This way, Ogura was bound to hear this word while listening to the conversation between the train attendant and the police officers. With the in-advance exposure to the word, Ogura then would be very likely to make an association between “Word Cup” and “W.C.” when Akashi passed. Kogoro adds that Akashi probably saw Ogura with Sato and Takagi at the train station. Knowing that Ogura would leak critical information to the police, Akashi decided to silence him.<br>
 +
Sato suddenly pulls on Kogoro’s face, forcing Conan to act out the pain. Sato joyfully explains that this is her first time seeing the Sleeping Kogoro, and has always wondered whether he is really asleep. Iwakuni and Tokuyama are surprised to learn that the man before them is none other than the famous Kogoro Mouri, but Akashi says derisively that he does not care about who Kogoro is, and that the police have no evidence that can ascertain his culpability. This prompts Kogoro to ask Akashi why, when the three suspects were complaining about them being suspected, he was able to describe the murder scene accurately despite supposedly having never seen it. Akashi becomes quite unnerved, but eventually is able to fend off Kogoro's attacks by claiming that such a thing can easily be deduced by listening to Takagi’s descriptions and by paying attention to how the police usually transport criminals. He then reiterates that despite allegedly stabbing someone in close proximity, there is no blood on his clothing. Kogoro replies that that is natural, as, before killing Ogura, Akashi had made Ogura read his newspaper. This could easily be done by telling Ogura that there was an article about him. In this way, the newspaper would become a barrier between Ogura and Akashi stopping blood from flying back onto the attacker. The evidence for the use of this trick is that ink, forming words and sentences, could be found on Ogura’s hand.<br>
 +
Akashi dismisses the deduction, and shows his sports newspaper which is free from bloodstains and holes. Kogoro says that Akashi still has a newspaper because he bought two, one in Osaka’s train station, and another sometime before that. He points to the newspaper Akashi is holding and says it has a different headline from the one that he bought (i.e. Akashi’s has the headline “World Cup Hero Under Police Interrogation” and Kogoro’s has the headline “World Cup Hero Officially Under Arrest”), meaning that Akashi definitely did not buy it from the station. The detective explains there is a difference in the headlines because Japanese newspapers are delivered to convenience stores and households much earlier than to train stations—meaning that if there is a rapidly-developing event, edits will be made after the convenience store/household delivery but still before the train station delivery.<br>
 +
Sato surmises that Akashi's fingerprint-riddled newspaper was torn to shreds and flushed down the toilet. Still, the evidence is recoverable by searching the train's waste tank. Knowing that he has been fully exposed, and noticing that the train has just arrived at the station, Akashi tries desperately to escape. Conan picks up Tokuyama’s empty coffee can and kneels down to adjust his kick shoes, but Takagi is quicker. He grabs the can from Conan and hurls it forcefully in the direction of Akashi, hitting him on the back of the head. The murderer falls to the ground and is apprehended by Sato, and Takagi comments that fastballs were more effective after all.

 +
Megure arrives with a large number of police officers, and the apprehended culprit is taken to the police station for questioning. He turns out to be a highly valuable source of information; not only does he candidly admit that he killed Ogura so that Ogura would not leak smuggling routes to the police, but he also details those smuggling routes to the police himself. Thanks to this, Takagi and Sato get to avoid the worst possible consequences of their blunder, and escape with a punitive 10% salary deduction for three months.<br>
 +
Sometime later, Sato complains to Yumi about her temporary salary deduction and permanent stain on her resume. While Yumi comforts her, Sato abruptly asks whether she likes Takagi. Yumi is dumbfounded by this question, and replies after being pressed that she does not like Takagi at all. Sato then says that she should stop playing with and torturing the poor sergeant and to go find a "proper man." From these words, Yumi is able to deduce that Sato does like Takagi, and she thus takes out her phone to relay the good news. However, she is reminded of Sato's rude suggestion about her dating life, and decides to withhold the information, wondering why she cares so much about the happiness of others. <br>
 +
Takagi expresses his gratitude to Kogoro, clearly in a downhearted state. Sato swings by and pats him on the back before ordering his participation in a different investigation. Ran and Conan notice the Assistant Inspector's cheerful attitude and remark that something good must have happened.

Kogoro has been invited to a detective meeting by an unknown assailant who sends him money. There are six detectives there excluding Conan. They are in a house where a massacre happened years ago. One of the detectives are killed and they are stranded in the mansion as the bridge has been cut and the cars have been burned. It also appears that the unknown assailant is using the name Kaitou Kid.
+
Kogoro drives Ran and Conan through a bumpy "short-cut" that a gas station employee had recommended to him. The group finally emerges from the rough terrain and joins a winding mountain pass, where Conan spots their destination: "The Sunset Mansion." Ran expresses her concern about the menacing structure and the mysteriousness of their invitation, which prompts Kogoro to recall how the letter's writer addressed themself as the "Illusionary Child abandoned by God (神が見捨てし仔の幻影)." Conan, on the other hand, appears confident about their host's identity. Kogoro spots a figure standing in the middle of the road, and slams on the breaks, stopping before an old woman holding an umbrella. She says that her Fiat had stalled on the side of the road and asks if she can hitchhike. Kogoro agrees, letting the old woman sit in the backseat next to Conan. Once settled, she immediately deduces that the group had stopped by a gas station, citing the recently emptied ash tray. She reveals to her surprised hosts that she is Furuyo Senma, a famous detective who can solve mysteries just by listening to witness reports from her rocking chair. <br>
 +
The four arrive at the mansion and notice the expensive lineup of cars that are parked outside. Kogoro is especially impressed by a vintage Alfa Romero, placing his hand on the car roof to take a closer look. His inspection is rebuked by the car's owner, Harufumi Mogi, who is a freelance detective and an associate of Senma. He joins the four in entering the mansion where they see another detective, named Shukuzen Ogami, berating a maid, Aki Ishihara, about the cook's absence, stating that he will prepare the food instead. As the man storms off, the group asks the maid about the event, specifically about who else will be in attendance. She answers that a total of six detectives had agreed to attend: Kogoro, Senma, Mogi, Ogami, a young woman, and a teenager. Ran asks if the invited teenager is Shinichi, prompting Conan deny it and instead suspect Heiji. The maid replies that they failed to contact Shinichi and that Heiji's mother had refused his participation due to upcoming exams. Mogi then asks for the event's host; the maid reveals that she also has never met the individual, recounting her bizarre hiring experience. <br>
 +
She stood in-line for the interview room, watching candidate after candidate leave in disappointment. When she entered the room, the only things she saw were the event's itinerary and guest list sitting atop a computer which displayed text congratulating her on her hiring. The detectives express their intrigue, pointing to the myriad of peculiar facets about the mansion—one of which is the blood stains on the main doors. Another detective, the young woman named Ikumi Souda, appears at the staircase, stating that the entire room was once covered in the blood of many different individuals. She is joined by High School Detective, Saguru Hakuba, who says he returned from the United Kingdom after hearing about the opportunity to uncover the mystery behind an enigmatic massacre from forty years ago.<br>
 +
The detectives occupy themselves in the lounge while they wait for their dinner. Ran wins yet another game of poker but is called out by Souda who notices that two of her cards are fused together. The girl pulls the cards apart and finds that coagulated blood had acted as the adhesive, causing her to scream in horror. The maid then enters the room and escorts the group to the dining room.<br>
 +
Upon arrival, they notice the host ominously sitting at the end of the table with a white hood over his head. The host states that he has summoned the detectives to the mansion to find the secret treasure hidden within. Suddenly, the group hears explosions from outside and realize that their cars have been destroyed. The host adds that he also destroyed the ravine bridge and shut off all means of communication with the outside world—thus the detectives are trapped. The game is simple: the detective who finds the hidden treasure first will be the sole recipient of both half of the total fortune and the information on how to escape. Mogi rises from his chair and angrily unmasks the host, only to find a speaker attached to a mannequin—merely an inanimate surrogate for the host's presence. Kogoro demands to know who could be behind this game, only to be ridiculed by his fellow detectives. They first reference the host's title: "Illusionary Child abandoned by God (神が見捨てし仔の幻影)." The word "Illusionary (幻影)" refers to an incorporeal subject like a "phantom." The specific kanji chosen for the word "child (仔)" is only used to refer to animal offspring. "Child abandoned by God (神が見捨てし仔)" represents the one creation unblessed by God in the Bible, the goat. The offspring of a goat is called a "kid." Therefore, the "Illusionary Child abandoned by God" refers to Kid the Phantom Thief, also known as Kaitou Kid.

File 300 - Tragedy
Conan senses Kid's presence within the mansion and smirks, wondering if he can escape the grasp of seven detectives. The maid then enters the room and begins to set the table with various dishes, making sure to work clockwise starting from Saguru. Senma is suspicious of their meal—while Ogami may have prepared the food, the utensils, napkins, and wine glasses were supplied and prepared by the host. If Kaitou Kid wished to poison a specific individual, he could easily do so as each detective sat where their name plaque had designated. Mogi suggests they each swap seats and leave their fate up to chance. <br>
 +
The detectives' fears are alleviated after everyone begins consuming their food without harm. The mannequin begins to speak again, and offers to tell his guests a story which will explain why he chose the Sunset Mansion as the stage for his game. He begins by directing everyone's attention to their plates and utensils; they notice an unsettling emblem depicting a crow. The host reveals that the emblem belonged to a billionaire who mysteriously died half-a-century ago, named Renya Karasuma. The Sunset Mansion served as his custom-built villa which had managed to maintain its beauty even after his death. However, forty years ago, a collection of Japan's most influential and wealthy individuals attended a gathering at the mansion for an event in remembrance of Karasuma. Though in truth, the commemorative event was rather a facade for a three-day auction selling the billionaire's most prized artifacts. On the second night, when the auction was at its height, two drenched men approached the mansion, seeking shelter from the storm raging outside. Although the auctioneer was hesitant at first, his concerns were erased after the two men handed him a leaf instead of money. The event's attendees quickly joined the auctioneer in wrapping the leaf in paper and smoking it like a cigarette—in time, filling the mansion with the hazy fumes. After a while, one man screamed as if he saw the devil and escaped the mansion with a priceless vase, one woman sobbed until her eyes were dry, and one man began manically mutilating his own hand with a pen. Soon, guests began to fight over the artifacts, using the auctioned swords and blades to cut each other down. As the hellish night came to an end, leaving seven dead and dozens more injured, the two men mysteriously vanished, taking the artifacts with them. <br>
 +
Kogoro questions how such a massacre is unknown to the public. The detectives reason that if an individual or a family with major political power was in attendance, their reputations would be destroyed, meaning it would be safer to perform a cover up. The host then states that the reason why chose the mansion as his venue is because he wishes for the detectives to recreate the events of the massacre—killing each other to claim their prize. He begins by giving his guests a clue: "On the night the two travelers looked up at the heavens... the devil descended onto the castle... the King held his treasure and ran wildly, the Princess filled the Holy Grail with her tears, and the Knights tainted their swords with their own blood." Souda scoffs at the host's wishes, voicing her disinterest in playing his game. The host replies that they will play along, as they have already been put under his magical spell. Lastly, he instructs to enter the location of the hidden treasure into the computer in the central tower to be declared the winner. <br>
 +
Suddenly, Mogi begins to clutch his throat in pain, but then reveals he is bluffing. He remains steadfast in his desire to leave. However, this time, Ogami begins to clasp at his throat. He falls to the ground dead. Souda checks his mouth and determines that he was poisoned with potassium cyanide, while Senma tests his tea and finds it is not the source of the poison. Mogi angrily takes the mannequin, believing he can communicate directly with the host, but instead finds cassette tapes linked to a timer—meaning the host's speech was a recording. Based on this new development, Conan steps forward and states that Ogami was targeted and that the killer can be amongst the remaining five detectives.

The detectives analyze the crime scene, but with no strong leads, they instead decide to leave the mansion to confirm the destruction of their vehicles. As the group shuffles out the door, Conan notices Ogami's jagged fingernail. <br>

Kogoro expresses dismay at the sight of his rent-a-car engulfed in flames alongside Souda's Ferrari, Mogi's Alfa Romero, and a mysterious Mercedes-Benz whom they believe belongs to the mansion owner. Ishihara then suggests they check the rear parking lot where she was instructed to park her car. The group agree and are subsequently relieved to find her vehicle still intact. Wanting to check if the valley bridge was destroyed, the detectives climb into the car, but note the risk in putting all of their eggs in one basket—in case the vehicle was sabotaged. Conan suggests flipping coins to decide who will go and who will stay. The group agrees, designating those who flip heads as the riders. The five coins gyrate through the air and perfectly land on five hands, three of which show heads. Kogoro, Mogi, and Senma board Ishihara's car and leave for the bridge. Conan looks down the valley and notices a vintage car with an "X" taped onto the roof. He looks back at Saguru who shows a faint smirk. <br>
 +
Kogoro and Mogi inspect the fallen bridge, and Mogi asks Senma, who remained in the driver's seat, to direct the car lights lower. As Kogoro and Mogi exchange their opinions on the culprit, a flash of light followed by a booming explosion rocks the scene. The car, containing Senma erupts into flames and rolls forward and into the chasm beneath the broken bridge. As a distressed Kogoro calls Senma's name, Mogi ominously smiles. <br>
 +
Back at the mansion, Kogoro and Mogi relay the news of Senma's death to the rest of the group. Believing the culprit may be an outside individual hiding within the mansion, Kogoro suggests the group split up to search the halls. Souda takes Ran and Ishihara with her while Kogoro, Mogi, and Conan form a second group—they leave without Saguru, whom they assume is busy feeding his hawk.<br>
 +
The men find a room containing an expensive piano. They notice both fresh scratches on the piano's rim, likely from Saguru's hawk, and a piece of paper wedged between the keys. Mogi opens the paper and finds it contains the same riddle they were given at the dinner table. Additionally, he deduces that because the note was written using outdated printing methods, someone had created many copies of the page far before the invention of the modern printer, suggesting the story about the massacre forty years ago is likely a fabrication. Conan also notices luminol fluid dripping from the piano's side which likely came from Souda who visited the room prior to their arrival. Kogoro then turns off the lights at the behest of Mogi, revealing words on the piano written in blood illuminated by the luminol. Mogi specifically lingers on the word "trump card (切り札 (Kirifuda))."<br>
 +
Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Souda washes her hands while Ran asks about the whereabouts of Ishihara. Ran exits the bathroom and finds the maid unconscious. Suddenly, Souda sneaks up behind her and covers her mouth with a chloroform cloth, causing her consciousness to also slip. She tucks the two girls into a bathroom stall and makes her exit, only to find herself staring down the barrel of Saguru's gun. He explains that he found the firearm in his room, stuffed under his pillow—deducing that Souda was attempting to frame him for the murders. She raises her arms, saying she had a similar experience while concealing a small gun in the palm of her hand. The sound of a gunshot echoes through the mansion, alerting Kogoro and Mogi to the central wing. The two detectives arrive only to find Saguru dead with a bullet through his heart. Kogoro notices someone ascending the stairs and gives chase, bursting through the door to the central tower. He looks down to see Souda on the floor, poisoned by a trap set in the interior door knob. Mogi arrives and points his gun at Kogoro, stating that there are now only two remaining detectives, and seen as he is not the killer, the culprit must be Kogoro. He proceeds to open fire.

File 302 - Sting
Mogi expresses his sympathies for a dying Kogoro while he lights a cigarette. However, upon placing the wrapping to his lips, he feels a sudden sting which causes him to clutch his throat. He too falls to the ground dead, having been poisoned. Meanwhile, a silhouette views the scene from a collection of monitors in a dark hidden room. Just as they believe the detectives had failed to locate the treasure, the footage to the room cuts out and a string of words appear on the computer behind them. They are shocked to see someone, calling themselves the "Seventh Detective," writing that they have located the treasure's location and beckoning them to the dining hall.<br>

<spoiler>

<spoiler>
The one who killed Ogami is Furuyo Senma.
+

+
The silhouette runs down the hall confused as to how a seventh detective could be present. Just as they begin to crack open the door to the meeting place, Conan steps forward. He names the culprit as Furuyo Senma, who had faked her death at the fallen bridge. <br>
Senma and Ogami were co-conspirators and had arranged for the detectives to arrive in an attempt to have them find the treasure for them. Senma's archaeologist father had disappeared looking for the treasure, so she wanted to know what the treasure was at all costs. Sensing that Ogami's greed had got the best of him and that he would kill her after they had found the treasure, she poisoned him using his nail biting habit. She had planned to fake her death, have the other detectives find the treasure and then have them kill each other, but they were not fooled. All the detectives who killed each other are alive all along.
+
Senma denies the allegation, stating that she barely escaped the explosion, and had just now re-arrived at the mansion. She also asserts that her participation in the mission was entirely by chance, citing the coin flip. Conan explains that Senma had prepared a second coin (showing heads) hidden on the dorsal-side of her hand—by flipping the first coin into the air and letting it randomly drop, she could create the illusion that she caught her coin which landed on heads. <br>

+
Senma then asks how she could have killed Ogami at the dinner table. Conan explains that Senma had laced everyone's tea cup with potassium cyanide, specifically where the rim meets the handle—where the tip of one's thumb would naturally touch. Since Senma knew Ogami had a habit of biting his thumbnail while in thought, she could time his death to the presentation of the riddle, which would naturally cause Ogami to ponder. Conan admits that a detective like Ogami would likely join the others in thoroughly wiping down his dishes and cutlery. Yet, he must not have felt the same urgency since he was Senma's accomplice and a fellow orchestrator of the event. He adds that the reason she carpooled with Kogoro on the way to the mansion was to give him the impression that she disliked smoking. Demonstrated by Mogi's death, a smoker would naturally touch the end of a cigarette with the tip of their thumb when pulling one out, thus by giving Kogoro a reason to refrain from smoking in her presence, she could ensure only Ogami died at the dinner table. Additionally, she immediately hired Ishihara after observing she shared Ogami's nail-biting habit—meaning she could easily kill her in a similar fashion when the time came. <br>
Instead, she is tricked into confessing to Conan, who reveals the true secret of the treasure: the entire mansion is actually made of gold. After solving the case, Kogoro was revealed to be Kid in disguise and escapes before Conan could capture him.
+
Lastly, Conan deduces that Senma intended to ensnare the detectives psychologically before killing each of them after they served their purpose of finding the hidden treasure, just like Renya Karasuma had done forty years ago. He reveals that there was an accompanying the name written under the message on the piano: "Kyosuke Senma." Senma states that is the name of her father. In his old age, Renya Karasuma had discovered a clue in the Sunset Mansion that he inherited from his mother. He called archeologist, Kyosuke Senma, to search for the treasure, paying him handsomely for his services. One day, the archeologist's letters and remittances to his family ceased and because he never revealed the location of his work, he declared missing shortly after. Twenty years later, Senma learned the truth about her father's fate after lifting his final letter to the light. He wrote that many other academics were called in alongside him to search for the treasure. However, as Karasuma neared the end of his life, he grew impatient and began systematically executing the academics.<br>
 +
The events rolled into motion after Senma had told Ogami about the story. The man proceeded to locate the Sunset Mansion and attempted to solve the riddle but failed to find the treasure after years of trying. He eventually went into debt after purchasing the mansion and one day suggested to Senma that they should gather other detectives to crack the riddle, using the name of Kaitou Kid as bait. He also suggested faking their deaths and murdering the maid, clearly showing that greed had taken a hold of his heart. Senma had murdered him as she believed he would eventually betray her after the treasure was located. <br>
 +
Location of the Treasure:<br>
 +
Conan points out how there is only one clock present throughout the entire mansion. He climbs up to the head of the dining room and explains that when the riddle references "on the night the two travelers looked up at the heavens," it suggests pointing both clock hands to 00:00—making both of them point up at the sky, at heaven. Using the term "trump card" written by Kyosuke Senma on the piano, it alludes to "trump (トランプ)," which is Japanese for playing cards. Because the riddle references a King (K) running away with his treasure (Diamonds), a Princess (Q) crying into the Holy Grail (Hearts), and Knights (J) stabbing themselves with their swords (Spades), the riddle refers to the King of Diamonds, Queen of Hearts, and Jack of Spades. Thus, by turning the clock hands by the card's numerical value in the direction each card faces, the treasure is revealed. However, when Conan does so, the clock falls from its position on the wall and cracks on the floor. The boy inspects it and finds the clock is made of pure gold, as Senma comments on the anti-climactic reveal of the treasure. Conan then demands Senma to make good on her promise and reveal the way out of the mansion. The old woman states that there is none, saying she intended to die here along with her victims.<br>
 +
<br>
 +
Suddenly, the Mogi, Kogoro, Souda, and Saguru appear in the doorway, all of whom are very much still alive. They reveal they used ketchup and various means of acting in order to trick Senma into believing they had perished, causing her to let her guard down and tell Conan, a child, about the secret mansion exit. Mogi explains that they knew Senma was the culprit after she went out of her way to choose a ¥10 coin from the pile during the coin flip, as she did not want anyone to touch the bronze coin with their poisoned fingers since it would cause a chemical reaction with the metal.

With the case solved, the detectives focus their attention on a means of escape. Souda hears a loud noise emanating from outside of the mansion, which Saguru explains is a police helicopter he called by attaching a message to his hawk. Conan listens closely and notices another more erratic sound mixed in with the noise of the helicopter blades.<br>
 +
Aboard the helicopter, Ran groans about the absence of Kaitou Kid while Mogi and Senma converse about the case. Finding herself still at an emotional and mental end, she opens the door and leaps from the helicopter. As the detectives call out for her, Kogoro shuffles through the crowd and leaps out after her. As the two converge mid-air, Kogoro sheds his suit for a familiar white hang glider. Kid berates her for wishing for death too soon, but she asserts that she was merely saving him from capture as a means of apologizing for stealing his identity. She looks up at Conan and Saguru who were apparently on the verge of stunning him, and asks who they are. Kaitou Kid refers to them as "a lover who he never wishes to meet." Finally, Kid parts ways with Senma, having attached her to the helicopter with a cord, stating that a thief is unable to steal such an immense treasure. The detectives collectively marvel at the outer walls of the Sunset Mansion fall apart, revealing a completely golden interior. Meanwhile, Ran wonders about the whereabouts of her father, who is seen waking up at a gas station.

 +
The Detective Boys enjoy lunch at school while lightly discussing their eating habits. They notice Genta uncharacteristically leave his meal unfinished and head for the nurse's office, leaving them confused as to the reason. Their teacher, Sumiko, joins their forum and adds that the issue is unrelated to his home-life. She also enlists their help in identifying the root cause of Genta's unusual behavior. <br>
 +
After school, Genta leaves by climbing over a wall, but is immediately caught by his friends who proceed to confront him. He confesses that he is being hunted by an "assassin." The Detective Boys are skeptical at first, even after hearing Genta recount events that suggest he is repeatedly being tailed. Suddenly, a large bolt falls nearby, alerting the group just in time to avoid a massive building-sign from crushing them. While Ayumi and Mitsuhiko label the incident as another coincidence, Conan disagrees. After examining the support cable, he determines it had been deliberately cut. Additionally, Haibara notes that Genta had often stood in this exact spot after school to watch Kamen Yaiba play on the store televisions. Such factors suggest Genta's life is indeed in danger. Meanwhile, a silhouette watches them from the gathering crowd.<br>
 +
The Detective Boys go to a burger restaurant where Genta says he believes the assassin is the serial purse-snatcher who remains at-large. Genta had seen the man sometime earlier, before he was a wanted burglar, but had forgotten where he met him. However, Genta did remember that a blond-haired man was a fellow witness of the thief's identity—and that he found him at another one of the purse-snatcher's crime scenes five days ago. Although he took the blond-haired man to the police and told them the story, but the witness denied any knowledge about both Genta and the thief. When his friends ask him for details about where he saw the thief, Genta says his memories are hazy as he was drowsy at the time. Still, he recalls the blond-man was sitting beside him, and that the thief held a cigarette in his left hand and wore a T-shirt with a skull and the numbers "202" in digital clock-like numerals. When Conan asks why he did not consult the authorities, Genta replies that he received a phone call threatening to murder his loved ones if he spread word about his predicament. Unexpectedly, Genta points at a customer at the shop, noticing him wearing a similar T-shirt to the thief. The group asks the man about where he purchased the T-shirt, and are directed to a station-side apparel store called "Bones."<br>
 +
Upon arriving at the store, the Detective Boys ask the clerk about the "202" T-shirt. She explains that the store sells a variety of similar designs but does not specifically remember one with the numbers "202."<br>
 +
At an end, the group discuss their findings on the sidewalk. Mitsuhiko wonders how Genta could identify so many facets about the thief if he was so drowsy. Genta replies that he was staring at him from across the room. Haibara questions how Genta could continually observe a stranger without incurring outrage. Hearing his friends' discussion, Conan has an epiphany, having solved the mystery.

File 304 - Genta's Trap
Genta has been acting weird at school lately. He is hiding under his futon at home, and doesn't eat his lunch instead of racing to finish first which is worrying his teacher Kobayashi. When he leaves school, Genta climbs over the wall and runs, like he is trying to lose someone. When the Detective Boys confront him, he tells them someone is trying to kill him. Earlier, he had heard the sound of someone's footsteps keeping pace with him in a tunnel. Later he was pushed off a bridge, and a burning car hurtled towards him. As he was telling the Detective Boys this, they reached a place outside a store where Genta likes to play a Yaiba Game machine. A large bolt falls nearby, barely alerting the Detective Boys in time to avoid part of the store's "BAKER" sign hurtling to the ground. Conan examines the support cable, and determines it had been deliberately cut and someone was indeed after Genta's life. They go to a burger restaurant and Genta reveals the man he thinks is trying to kill him is the purse snatcher the police are after. Genta had seen the man sometime earlier, before he was a wanted burglar, but had forgotten where it was. Genta does remember a golden haired man was with him when he saw the thief. Genta also explains that he went to a crime scene where the snatcher struck five days ago and saw his golden-haired witness in the crowd. He took the witness to the police and told them the story, but the witness denied seeing the thief. Genta later gets a mysterious phone call: "If you tell anyone that you saw me, I will kill you!! You, your family, and everybody that you know!"
+
Conan says Genta saw the thief in an eyewear store. The thief did not react to Genta's staring because he had given his glasses to the optometrist for inspection, thus greatly limiting his sight. Genta objects, saying he has never been to such a shop. Conan then whispers something into Genta’s ear, while a silhouette intently watches the group. Genta continues to assert that his deduction is flawed. causing Conan to sigh in disappointment. Giving up for the day, the group splits off towards their separate ways.<br>
 +
Walking back home, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko talk about the case again, while Genta buys himself some ice cream. He comes to a slight realization after Ayumi notices cream on his cheek. Mitsuhiko also takes his leave as Genta smells more delicious aromas emanating from a French restaurant. He notices France’s three-color flag on the establishment door and his realization becomes clearer but still out of reach. Finally, Ayumi splits off, leaving Genta to walk alone through the streets of town. He looks at his reflection in a store window and has his epiphany.<br>
 +
He rushes to a place located on the sixth floor of a train station and manages to slip into the elevator just in time.
 +
<spoiler>
 +

 +
Suddenly, a hand reaches out and holds the elevator open, and the blond-haired witness steps inside. He tells Genta that he too realized where he saw the thief's face and suggests they go somewhere secluded to discuss their stories. As the blond-man discreetly pulls a dagger from his pocket, one of the two other elevator riders points at the blond-man, saying he recognizes him as a former customer named Someda. The elevator doors opens, revealing Conan and the Detective Boys on the other side.<br>
 +
Genta had observed the thief through a mirror, explaining why his staring went unnoticed. Additionally, in a reflection, a seven-segmented display of "SOS" reads "202," and a right-handed smoker would appear left-handed. Conan reveals Genta went to a very common place where people sit for extended period of time in front of a mirror while unable to move: a barber shop. Such conditions often make customers drowsy. The ice cream reminded him of the shaving cream and the flag of France reminded him of the barber's pole. Genta did not realize the dark-haired thief with glasses was the blond-haired man because he fell asleep before the thief was called for his appointment—by the time he woke up, the thief was sitting beside him without his glasses and his hair already dyed.<br>
 +
As Someda demands they bring forward evidence, the man on the elevator reveals himself as his barber. Additionally, the thief had left his fingerprints on his most recent victim's bag. If Someda's fingerprints matches the thief's, his guilt is confirmed.<br>
 +
Genta gloats about the Detective Boys' plan to stage an epiphany and lure Someda to the barbershop, causing the culprit to laugh. Someda then pulls out his knife in a blind rage but is stopped by the other elevator passenger, a young blonde woman. Suddenly, Someda finds himself surrounded by dozens of undercover police officers who swiftly arrest him.

As the Detective Boys celebrate their victory, Haibara tells Conan to be relieved the culprit was not left-handed. When asked why, she tells him that Gin is left-handed.

Genta tries to recall where he saw the thief. He remembers the witness sitting beside him, but doesn't remember the thief sitting down. Genta was sleepy at the time. The things he remembers about the thief are that he was holding a cigarette in his left hand, meaning he is left handed. He was also wearing a tee-shirt with a skull and the numbers 202 in digital clock-like numerals. Genta notices one of the customers at the burger place has a similar tee-shirt, only with the numbers 1999 instead. Conan asks the man where he got his shirt, and the man tells him it is from the Bones clothing store. The Detective Boys run to find the place, but unfortunately the criminal had followed them into the restaurant and overheard everything.

At the shop, the salesperson explains that they sold a variety of shirts like that with different text such as "Escape", "Help", and "1999" because of the doomsday prediction in 2000, but none that say 202. The salesperson doesn't remember anyone unusual either. Genta does remember a few more details about the thief though. The thief was reading a newspaper, the place allowed smoking, and Genta never took his eyes off of him meaning it was a place where it wouldn't be unusual to watch someone without making them uncomfortable. From those clues, Conan realizes the answer. To avoid alerting the thief who is watching nearby, Conan whispers something to Genta.

Sonoko proudly unveils a teacup, inscribed with Makoto's name, to Ran and Conan. Ran comments on its small size, to which Sonoko clarifies that the cup is for herself, instead pulling out a comically large teacup for Makoto. She explains that she heeded Ran's criticism and decided against faking authenticity, having scrapped her plan to pass a store-bought sweater off as her original design. She thus focused on legitimately creating a meaningful and perpetually applicable present which will also serve as a memento. Hearing her friend's efforts to keep her partner loyal, Ran begins to worry about how Shinichi's romantic life has developed during his absence, imagining a scenario where he seductively comforts a beautiful grieving widow. Spurred by her sudden anxieties, Ran asks Sonoko if she can join her Sunday ceramics class.<br>
 +
Three weeks later, Ran toils in the ceramics studio, engraving several words onto her teacup. The studio instructor, Muneyuki Mino, compliments her on her abilities, while Sonoko begs a coy Ran to reveal what she is writing. Mino's assistant, Kikuyo Kasama, finds Conan snooping around the studio and asks the students about his identity. Ran and Sonoko approach him and ask why he is spying on them. The girls quickly dismantle Conan's explanation about observing at the behest of Kogoro, and Sonoko accuses him of being Shinichi's agent. Kasama interrupts the interrogation and welcomes Conan as an impromptu student. Mino is impressed to hear that Conan and Ran are acquainted with the famed potter, Kikuemon, but suddenly shifts his kind demeanor to a cautious one after hearing Ran is the daughter of Kogoro Mouri. The class is then joined by Mino's son-in-law, Motoo Mino, who heads for the staff lockers to prepare for his teaching shift.<br>
 +
Motoo tells Kasama about the hefty life insurance plan Mino forced him to pay into, complaining about how his father-in-law has changed after the death of his daughter. Kasama amusingly remarks on Motoo's emotional detachment from his late wife; Motoo scoffs, stating that he never loved her—viewing her as a tool to syphon the her family's money into his savings. The two loosely discuss folding their current ceramic studio after Mino's death, starting their own studio using the money they accumulate by selling the master's previous creations. Mino ominously stands at the door, listening to Motoo proclaim that Kasama is the only woman he has loved, and confirm that he has set her as the sole beneficiary of his life insurance contract. Mino then enters the room and directs Kasama to oversee the students. He notices Motoo's new necktie placed on a chair, which Motoo explains is a birthday present from Kasama. Mino compliments the color as he approaches Motoo from behind with his necktie, ready to strangle his son-in-law.<br>
 +
Back in the classroom, the group hears a large crash sound coming from the locker room. Conan and Ran rush to investigate and find Mino cleaning up a plate he accidentally shattered on the floor. He kindly asks his students to finish the sweep, menacingly smirking after seeing Ran pick up a shard.<br>
 +
Later, as Mino works on a cup atop the pottery wheel, he cuts himself on a sharp object which he suspects had contaminated the clay. He talks with Kasama, who had fetched him the first-aid kit, about Motoo's whereabouts. Concerned, the group search the studio, ultimately reaching the last room, the locker room. Ran notices an apron sticking out from one of the lockers. Believing Motoo is hiding behind the door, Mino opens the locker, only for Motoo's corpse to fall onto the floor before the terrified class.

As panic ensues, Ran scrambles to call the ambulance, but also the police at Conan's behest. The boy intently observes the necktie wrapped around Motoo's neck, specifically the pearl-shaped pin on the blade.<br>
Ran, Sonoko, and Conan attend a pottery class. Sonoko wants to make pottery for Makoto, while Ran wants to make some for Shinichi. A man is strangled to death with a necktie and found in a closet.

Inspector Megure and Takagi arrive and gathers information about the circumstances leading to Motoo's death. Sonoko recounts how there was no apron sticking out from the locker when the students cleaned Mino's broken plate, meaning his body must have entered the locker sometime after the shattering. Though Megure suggests that Mino could have altered the crime scene after the plate shards were cleaned, Ran and Conan confirm his alibi during that timeframe. Mino wonders if Kasama had noticed anything unusual as he had sent her to the locker room to retrieve the first-aid kit after he cut himself on the pottery wheel. Kasama nervously states that she opened the locker Motoo's corpse was discovered in to retrieve the kit, but asserts there was no body at the time. She also denies Mino's claim that the necktie used to strangle Motoo was her gift, stating that he discovered the present, along with a birthday card, in his bag. Motoo had believed she was being coy about her gift, so thus gave little attention to her denying the present was her doing. Mino then recalls Motoo murmuring that "money turns people into demons," and that he will "soon be eaten by demons." He then whispers something into the officers' ears, who immediately rush to confirm his insights. A forensic officer then asks Kasama for a pen, having run out of ink. Mino instructs his assistant to stay put, and supplies the officers in her stead.<br>

Mino ostensibly searches for a pen, but instead pulls out a pair of scissors. Suddenly, Conan appears and corrects him about his selection of stationery. He then calls him to his pottery wheel to show off his creation, saying that unlike Motoo, he does not like to leave things unfinished. Mino asks what he means; Conan says that Motoo had not finished curling his sleeves, implying he was murdered while preparing for his shift. Panicking, Mino surmises his sleeves were pulled during a scuffle with the culprit, leading Conan to speculate that the scuffle was also the reason why his necktie pin was pulled so low down the blade. The boy also says Mino must like symmetry, citing how he stepped around Motoo to crouch beside the body's right-side, likely to adjust the sleeves to match each other's length. Additionally, despite the apron only showing under the right door, Mino opened both doors simultaneously. Before Mino can counter, Conan happily announces that his work is done. After inspecting the mold, in a form of ceramic-fortune-telling, Mino says that Conan is conflicted and is hiding something profound. Before the man can leave, Conan reveals that the mold belongs to Mino, having transferred the mold to a different wheel while he searched for the pen. Mino turns back in shock, as Conan questions the implications of Mino's fortune-telling now that it applies to himself. The forensics officers then arrive in the room, giving Mino a reprieve from his relentless young student. <br>

As the adults leave, Conan walks down a hallway, confident that Mino is the culprit. Still, he lacks solid evidence. He happens upon the forensics desk and picks up the murder weapon: Motoo's necktie. He then notices something about the pin and everything becomes clear.

Police Escort Murder Case

File 296 - Straight Ball Match

The Shinkansen spoils the mood.

One day after the events at the K3 restaurant, Conan, Ran, Kogoro, accompanied by Heiji and Kazuha, wait for the shinkansen back to Tokyo. Ran calls Shinichi about Ray Curtis' arrest, as the boy feigns his surprise about his idol's fall from grace.[1] Before Shinichi can hang up, Ran asks him to wait. She recalls Sonoko's question at the department store, asking if she wants to know how Shinichi feels about her.[2] Supported by Kazuha's encouragement, Ran hesitantly begins to ask, but is interrupted by her train's roaring arrival. Shinichi, seeing that Ran is no longer saying anything, bids farewell, leaving Ran blushing and Kazuha unsatisfied.
Once the Tokyo trio is properly seated, Kazuha pounds the window from outside the Shinkansen and shouts at Ran to approach her romantic pursuits by forgoing breaking pitches and instead purely focus on throwing fastballs down the middle. Ran fakes a smile to show that she has understood.

Ogura escapes into the afterlife.

File 297 - The Open Closed Room

Takagi endures Megure's ire as he is blasted over the phone for his grave mistake. Kogoro and Sato debate the sergeants fate, floating the possibility of job dismissal. Takagi receives a call from Yumi asking about the results of their plan; he immediately squashes the conversation due to the severity of the situation.

Naturally, the accompanying officer would temporarily leave Ogura alone to call for help, giving the murderer plenty of time to enter the bathroom, kill Ogura, and destroy any remaining evidence.

The three suspects' belongings.

And second, the message did not need to explicitly state what to do, but rather that there was hidden in the toilet; instinct would suffice.
However, he is eventually able to notice something important.

File 298 - Time Trap

The Shinkansen arrives at Tokyo Station and the suspects strongly voice their desire to be dismissed. With the answers still out of their reach and Takagi's job security in extreme jeopardy, Kogoro assures him that he will gladly hire him as his assistant. Suddenly, Kogoro's face contorts and he falls against the wall. Conan positions himself behind the detective and begins his deduction.

Sato asks Yumi if she has feelings for Takagi.

Thanks to this, Takagi and Sato get to avoid the worst possible consequences of their blunder, and escape with a punitive 10% salary deduction for three months.
Takagi expresses his gratitude to Kogoro, clearly in a downhearted state. Sato swings by and pats him on the back before ordering his participation in a different investigation. Ran and Conan notice the Assistant Inspector's cheerful attitude and remark that something good must have happened.

    Sunset Mansion Case

    Characters introduced

    File 299 - The Meeting

The detectives arrive at the Sunset Mansion.

She is joined by High School Detective, Saguru Hakuba, who says he returned from the United Kingdom after hearing about the opportunity to uncover the mystery behind an enigmatic massacre from forty years ago.

The detectives deduce that the host is Kaitou Kid.

The maid then enters the room and escorts the group to the dining room.

Billionaire Renya Karasuma was the owner of the Sunset Mansion before his mysterious death.

The host's first clue matches the mansion's dark history.

    A more authentic poisoning.

    File 301 - Murder

The detectives analyze the crime scene, but with no strong leads, they instead decide to leave the mansion to confirm the destruction of their vehicles. As the group shuffles out the door, Conan notices Ogami's jagged fingernail.

The car explodes with Senma inside.

Back at the mansion, Kogoro and Mogi relay the news of Senma's death to the rest of the group. Believing the culprit may be an outside individual hiding within the mansion, Kogoro suggests the group split up to search the halls. Souda takes Ran and Ishihara with her while Kogoro, Mogi, and Conan form a second group—they leave without Saguru, whom they assume is busy feeding his hawk.

Mogi shoots Kogoro, believing him to be the culprit.

Mogi specifically lingers on the word "trump card (切り札 (Kirifuda))."

They are shocked to see someone, calling themselves the "Seventh Detective," writing that they have located the treasure's location and beckoning them to the dining hall.

With the case solved, the detectives focus their attention on a means of escape. Souda hears a loud noise emanating from outside of the mansion, which Saguru explains is a police helicopter he called by attaching a message to his hawk. Conan listens closely and notices another more erratic sound mixed in with the noise of the helicopter blades.

    Kaitou Kid appears!

    Genta's Shadow Case

    File 303 - Genta's Misfortune

The Detective Boys catch Genta continuing his unusual behavior.

The Detective Boys are nearly crushed by a falling sign.

Meanwhile, a silhouette watches them from the gathering crowd.
The group asks the man about where he purchased the T-shirt, and are directed to a station-side apparel store called "Bones."
Upon arriving at the store, the Detective Boys ask the clerk about the "202" T-shirt. She explains that the store sells a variety of similar designs but does not specifically remember one with the numbers "202."

Conan says Genta saw the thief in an eyewear store. The thief did not react to Genta's staring because he had given his glasses to the optometrist for inspection, thus greatly limiting his sight. Genta objects, saying he has never been to such a shop. Conan then whispers something into Genta’s ear, while a silhouette intently watches the group. Genta continues to assert that his deduction is flawed. causing Conan to sigh in disappointment. Giving up for the day, the group splits off towards their separate ways.

He looks at his reflection in a store window and has his epiphany.

Haibara tells Conan that Gin is left-handed.

He rushes to a place located on the sixth floor of a train station and manages to slip into the elevator just in time.

As the Detective Boys celebrate their victory, Haibara tells Conan to be relieved the culprit was not left-handed. When asked why, she tells him that Gin is left-handed.

    Pottery Class Case

File 305 - On the Bottom...

Ran's imagined scenario spurs romantic anxieties.

Sonoko proudly unveils a teacup, inscribed with Makoto's name, to Ran and Conan. Ran comments on its small size, to which Sonoko clarifies that the cup is for herself, instead pulling out a comically large teacup for Makoto. She explains that she heeded Ran's criticism and decided against faking authenticity, having scrapped her plan to pass a store-bought sweater off as her original design.[2] She thus focused on legitimately creating a meaningful and perpetually applicable present which will also serve as a memento. Hearing her friend's efforts to keep her partner loyal, Ran begins to worry about how Shinichi's romantic life has developed during his absence, imagining a scenario where he seductively comforts a beautiful grieving widow. Spurred by her sudden anxieties, Ran asks Sonoko if she can join her Sunday ceramics class.

Mino is impressed to hear that Conan and Ran are acquainted with the famed potter, Kikuemon, but suddenly shifts his kind demeanor to a cautious one after hearing Ran is the daughter of Kogoro Mouri.[3] The class is then joined by Mino's son-in-law, Motoo Mino, who heads for the staff lockers to prepare for his teaching shift.

    Mino completes his murder.

Mino compliments the color as he approaches Motoo from behind with his necktie, ready to strangle his son-in-law.
Back in the classroom, the group hears a large crash sound coming from the locker room. Conan and Ran rush to investigate and find Mino cleaning up a plate he accidentally shattered on the floor. He kindly asks his students to finish the sweep, menacingly smirking after seeing Ran pick up a shard.

File 306 - Surrounded by Hints

As panic ensues, Ran scrambles to call the ambulance, but also the police at Conan's behest. The boy intently observes the necktie wrapped around Motoo's neck, specifically the pearl-shaped pin on the blade.

Mino instructs his assistant to stay put, and supplies the officers in her stead.

Mino had unknowingly read his own concerning fortune.

As the adults leave, Conan walks down a hallway, confident that Mino is the culprit. Still, he lacks solid evidence. He happens upon the forensics desk and picks up the murder weapon: Motoo's necktie. He then notices something about the pin and everything becomes clear.
