Anime: Episode 345
Nothing is known about his past. But judging on Chianti's reaction toward Vermouth and her part in Calvados' death, it likely they the two of them knew each other. Since they both were snipers, they might have worked together. In episode 341 upon arriving at Beika Airport, Vermouth calls him with orders to shoot a particular person once they are in his sight. Later in episode 345 he is called by Vermouth to stake out at the docks to help her kill Jodie after Vermouth (disguised as Jodie) had sent the FBI agents, who were originally hiding there to apprehend her, back. He shoots Jodie in the stomach and disables her and just as he was about to kill Haibara, Ran pops up from the truck of Jodie's car to protect Haibara. Calvados repeatedly tries to shoot her down (despite Vermouth's orders to stop) and misses, he stops when Vermouth shoots a bullet in his direction. Shuichi Akai later breaks both of Calvados legs and takes his rifle, shotgun and 3 handguns. He later commits suicide in order to avoid being taken prisoner for questioning.
According to fellow snipers Chianti and Korn, he was infatuated with Vermouth, which Vermouth used to her advantage. He willingly obeyed Vermouth's orders during an unsanctioned showdown with the FBI over Ai Haibara. During that showdown, Shuichi Akai crept up on Calvados unaware and severely injured him. Instead of surrendering to capture and interrogation, Calvados chose to commit suicide with a hidden handgun. The other snipers Chianti and Korn knew Calvados well enough to be aware of his infatuation and murderously furious at Vermouth for leading him to his death. Calvados' favorite weapon was said to have been his shotgun.
- Calvados' face was not visible in the manga or anime. It was only shown as a black silhouette.
