File 425 - The Hidden Truth

With the poison's source still unknown, Inspector Megure and Takagi plan to expand their investigation beyond the house but are quickly stopped by an ostensible interjection from Agasa. Though initially startled, Agasa quickly adjusts to Conan's deduction which he presents using the Voice-Changing Bowtie.

Dejima would naturally remove a used toilet paper roll from the room.

Based on the locations where poison residue were discovered (the right side of Dejima's pants, the opening of his belt, and his handkerchief) Agasa states that Dejima likely touched the poison in the bathroom. Megure counters that forensics found no traces of poison in the bathroom, but Agasa elaborates that the killer laced poison on an empty toilet paper roll. Dejima would've replaced the roll and carried the poisoned roll out of the bathroom to be discarded elsewhere. The process is as follows.

1. Dejima touches the poison laced roll while replacing it with a new one.
2. The portions of toilet paper which came in contact with Dejima's poisoned fingers would be flushed once he uses them.
3. He touches his belt and pants after using the bathroom.
4. He washes his hands removing poison from his fingers.
5. He retouches the poison-laced toilet paper roll with his left hand and opens the bathroom door with his right hand.

Agasa then proceeds to accuse Tetsuo Imai of consistently spiking Dejima's coffee with laxatives. Any laxative influence found in autopsy would also be attributed to Dejima's prescribed laxatives he used to treat his haemorrhoids. Additionally, the reason Imai presented cookies alongside his coffee was for the snacks to expedite bowel movements. Zaitsu questions how Imai could've predicted how he would've used the toilet, as if he had defecated, he would instead be poisoned. Agasa explains that Imai could determine whether Zaitsu used hard or soft flush by listening to the intensity of the flush; in the case of the former, Zaitsu could be given a wet towel to remove the poison.

Akemi helped quell Imai's resentment towards Dejima.

Takagi then finds the discarded toilet paper roll, prompting Megure to order the search for the poison container. Haibara steps forward and deduces Imai likely hid the poison container in the corner shelf of the kitchen as it would blend in with the poorly sanitized surroundings. Imai is shocked by Haibara's image as he is vividly reminded of Akemi. Soon after, an officer proves Haibara correct by finding a suspicious bag in the corner shelf of the kitchen. Knowing his fingerprints would be discovered on the bag, Imai admits to his crime and begins explaining his motives.
The Motive:
Imai states his desire to kill Dejima goes back two decades when Dejima sabotaged his attempts at branching off and becoming independent. While constructing a way to kill Dejima, the Miyano family had come to stay at the house. Akemi had approached Imai at his nadir, and through her bright attitude and positive outlook, she gave Imai hope to burry his rage. Years later, when Imai once again asked Dejima about independence, the latter replied he would allow it if only Imai had retained his abilities from twenty years ago. His anger reignited, Imai was once again momentarily calmed by Akemi when she briefly returned, promising him that she would soon visit again with her younger sister. But she never returned. With nothing to quell is murderous heart, Imai proceeded with his plan.

Vermouth calls in Calvados.

On the car ride home Haibara restlessly asks Conan if he had recovered Akemi's artifact. Conan replies that he has, explaining that after learning about Dejima's stipulations about being stingy toilet water, he deduced that Akemi had attached something to toilet's ballcock valve which had hampered the toilets functions and raised the water bill. The object attached to the valve at the time were likely the employee's tools. After hearing Imai was "tired," Akemi hiding the tools was her way of forcing him to take a break from work. Years later when Akemi returned to use the bathroom, she replaced the tools with a different object, which, Conan had successfully retrieved, revealing it to be a set of twenty cassette tapes. Conan suspects the tapes contain vital information about the Black Organization, causing Haibara to object to him listening to them as it would further endanger him. Conan stops the recording and hands the headphones to Haibara after realizing the tapes are instead a set of messages from her mother Elena. Conan concludes that Elena likely sensed her impending demise and thus recorded messages throughout the years for Shiho, eventually giving them to Akemi to pass on to her when she turned twenty. However, due to the organization's heavy security surrounding Shiho's research, Akemi had no choice but to hide the tapes in the house's toilet tank. If Akemi survived, she would've taken Shiho to the house to retrieve the tapes. Meanwhile, Haibara warmly smiles, rapt with comfort by her mother's voice, as Conan internally hopes she found solace knowing her mother was a true "angel."
At an airport, Vermouth is seen on the phone enlisting the help of a sniper, referring to them as Calvados.

File 426 - Goodbye Jodie

A little girl discovers her father's killer.

Ominous clouds rain upon a luxurious mansion in the middle of the night. A bloodied man lays dead against his arm chair, his glasses on the floor and a gun in his hand. A woman, dressed fully in black, picks up his glasses but is interrupted by an innocent young girl standing at the doorway. "Who are you?" the girl asks; the woman raises her fingers to her mouth and motions her to shush. The recollection begins to crumble as Jodie wakes up from her flashback.
A fellow Teitan High School teacher expresses concern, wondering if the job's stress is effecting her. Jodie answers in the negative, saying she is fond of her students and is simply saddened that she soon must leave them.

Later, Jodie announces her resignation to her students, who react with surprise and disappointment.

"A secret makes a woman woman."

After school, Ran and Sonoko ask Jodie for a more detailed explanation of her sudden resignation. The teacher jokes about embarking on an adventure to locate a hidden treasure—ultimately leaving the truth about her departure a secret, once again echoing her phrase: "a secret makes a woman woman." Ran, knowing that Jodie does not intend to divulge information, switches the topic by regretfully saying Jodie has never taught Shinichi. Sonoko expresses her annoyance at Shinichi's stubbornness, remarking that he should abandon his case and return to them. Ran objects, affectionately describing Shinichi as "stubborn." As the two girls dive into their usual romantic bickering, Jodie mentions how Conan is similarly stubborn. Ran says that Conan has recently been staying at Professor Agasa's house lately to take care of a sick Haibara; Jodie appears intrigued. Sonoko then changes the subject and proposes they go to Jodie’s apartment for a farewell party. Jodie and Ran agree, and therefore decide to head to the convenience store where a friend of theirs, named Aya Nanakawa, works to buy drinks and desserts.

Upon arrival at the store, they see a furious store manager shouting at Aya and threatening to fire her. Sonoko and Ran intervene and try to soothe an upset and crying Aya while the store manager reveals that he suspects Aya of being a thief. Sonoko is quick to come to the defense of her friend. The manager explains that he too was initially unwilling to believe that Aya was the culprit, but after noticing that the loss of goods only occurred on days when Aya was working, that surveillance cameras failed to reveal wrongdoing by a customer, and that theft occurred at times when only Aya was present in the store, he was forced to conclude that Aya was the culprit. The manager further reveals that a myriad of items have been stolen: game softwares, CDs, DVDs, beverages, box lunches, candy, and etc. Ran questions if Aya has ever been caught in the act via the cameras. The managers says no, stating that he cuts the footage during closing hours to lower operating costs, adding that the hall to the bathroom is also left dim for the same reason. Ran and Sonoko then turn to Aya and listen to her opinion. Aya tells them that she noticed three suspicious customers: a university student who comes to the store to read gaming magazines until closing hours, usually buying fast-foods and instant noodles; a very quiet office worker who never starts a quarrel even when cut in line, usually buying toothbrushes, towels, and batteries; and an elderly woman who likes spending as little money as possible, often lecturing the manager on how to save electricity, usually not buying anything at all. Lastly, Aya adds that all three suspects frequently use the store bathroom.

The store manager suspects Aya is the culprit.

The store manager also says that the store experienced a long cessation of thefts after he rebuked Aya about the situation exactly one month ago. Just when he thought that Aya had learned that her misdemeanors were unacceptable, the theft started again at an even greater scale. Still, the manager offers to excuse Aya from her crime if she admits to her wrongdoing, but the girl remains steadfast in her conviction. Ran and Sonoko, seeing that the situation is spiraling downwards, suggest consulting with Shinichi or Conan, but Jodie says that they should try having a go at the case before turning to others for help, because those you can rely on can disappear at any time.

File 427 - Ran's Deduction

Ran recalls how Shinichi digests clues.

Ran and Sonoko reconsider the case details but are unable to envision anyone other than Aya as the culprit. Stuck, Ran asks herself what Shinichi would do in this situation. She recalls he once told her that when there is a case, it is almost certain that something deviating from the norm happens, and such deviations, no matter how insignificant, are clues that can be found by careful observation that form the cornerstone of a deduction. Thus, Ran asks Aya whether anything unusual happened on the days when she was on shift. Neither she nor the store manager can think of anything, but another employee points out that the store is exceptionally clean whenever Aya is on watch. He elaborates that after newly arrived goods are taken into the storage room during the night, Aya will make sure that the boxes are arranged in order so they do not occlude the bathroom. The employee adds that nobody else, including the manager himself, bothers to go the extra mile. The manager concedes that the employee’s account is true, but insists that Aya’s good habits do not excuse her and that he will involve the police unless Ran and company can find the true culprit.

Meanwhile, Conan sits in Agasa's house, having had a feeling Ran is calling for him—as if the two are connected via telepathy. He waves the feeling off and instead asks Agasa about the whereabouts of the still-feverish Haibara. Agasa says she is in the laboratory listening to the tapes that her mother left her.

Haibara listens to her mother's recordings.

In the basement, Haibara rests in a state of absolute bliss: her eyes closed, in inner peace, and listening to the recording her mother prepared for her eighteenth birthday. In the recording, her mother asks what Shiho is doing in her life and tells her that as long as she does not regret her decisions, she will fully support her. Haibara, thinking that the recording ends there, tries to press the stop button on the cassette player, but her mother suddenly starts talking again. To Haibara's surprise, her mother begins to share the truth about something.
Meanwhile, Jodie recollection continues: the woman in black approaches the confused young girl with a gun. Later, huge flames engulf the house and reduced it to ashes.
This time, she is interrupted by her two students, who notice that her glasses appear quite old. Jodie concurs, adding they are the last remnant of someone who was very important to her. Suddenly, a frantic customer bumps into Ran on his way to the bathroom. They notice the store is reaching its peak hours and are directedd by the manager to step outside.
The trio continue to think but are unable to come up with any solid deduction. Deliverymen arrive early at the store, but after consulting the cashier worker, they decide to come back later due to the influx of customers. Ran, having overheard their conversation, starts thinking, and asks Sonoko whether she knows of any quote by Sherlock Holmes resembling "eliminating the impossible things..." remembering Shinichi often quoted it. Sonoko is clueless, but Jodie confidently replies that the exact quote is: "whenever you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth." After hearing this, Ran seems to have come up with a deduction, but remains unsure of its accuracy. She thinks of Shinichi yet again, believing that he would know what to do in such a situation. Suddenly, she receives a call from an unidentified caller. She answers the phone and becomes overwhelmed after hearing Shinichi's voice.

File 428 - The Unbelievable Conclusion

Conan, as Shinichi, tries to confirm something with Ran but shifts to asking about her situation after hearing her in distress about Aya's predicament. Ran relays all of the information to Shinichi who is able to immediately work out the culprit's identity. Before he is able to give his deduction, Ran interrupts, wanting to test her own deduction. Shinichi agrees to hear it; the girl fights through her nervousness and presents her logic.

Once she finishes, Shinichi bursts out in laughter, not because of any apparent flaw, but because he finds amusement in the notion that Ran remains hesitant to share her deduction despite its good quality. He adds that detectives are mortal, and always carry a pinch of anxiety with them when presenting their theories, worrying about having neglected some small but crucial detail. He proceeds to say that this element of unknown is what doubles a detective's satisfaction upon hitting the target. Therefore, he withholds comment on Ran's deduction so as to not deprive her of this supreme catharsis. Ran, inspired by Shinichi's words, quickly comes up with a plan.

The office worker emerges from his hiding spot.

She calmly enters the store and into the empty bathroom. She prepares herself before loudly screaming about a quickly spreading fire. The manager, confused and irate, pounds on the door and demands Ran stop her obstruction of business. She calmly exits the bathroom and signals him to remain quiet. A few moments later, the bathroom door is violently flung open and a man rushes outside. The Office Worker finds himself at the entrance to the storage room, staring out at a confused group of shoppers.
Ran declares the office worker to be the culprit, stating that he managed to avoid detection because he has been living in the space above the bathroom ceiling. He has been surviving off of the food he stole from the convenience store, taking roughly three days worth of food each trip—perfectly lining up with Aya's shift. Additionally, he was able to purchase sanitation goods with the money he made off of selling the stole game softwares and DVDs. Furthermore, he used the stolen batteries to power a flashlight, which is needed for searching for food and other basic necessities in the lightless, closed store during the night. Sonoko asks how no one noticed him enter the bathroom without ever exiting. Ran answers that he let others cut in the line leading to the bathroom, ensuring he is always the last person to enter it. Finally, he only steals after Aya's shift because she was the only worker who would neatly order the boxes before the morning shift, clearing a path from the bathroom to the store. Sonoko questions the last portion of the deduction, arguing that the office worker can simply push any blockage away. Ran admits she is stumped, unable to fully explain that action. Fortunately, Shinichi steps in over the phone, explaining that the office worker does not dare to move any obstructing boxes because he fears that the movements, however slight, will be noticed by store employees, who will then infer that something is wrong with the bathroom, exposing his hiding spot.

The store manager accepts all of Ran’s explanations, but still questions why there was a prolonged period of time where the office worker refrained from stealing after Aya was reprimanded. Ran asserts that the office worker is not truly a bad person. He overheard Aya's rebuking and realized that his actions were hurting an innocent other, thus stopped for some time. Moreover, the stolen box lunches were invariably those which were nearing their expiration date. The office worker had chosen them to minimize financial damage to the store.

Aya receives a much deserved apology.

With the deduction complete the office worker admits to his guilt. He kneels down to asks for forgiveness, recounting that three months ago, he lost his job and was evicted from his apartment. He found the bathroom ceiling as a place of refuge, believing that stealing such a small amount would not cause problems for the store. Upon hearing this, the manager barks out, telling the office worker that contrary to his belief, the store has suffered terrible losses. He then insists on being compensated by working at his convenience store—with no salary for the first few months. The manager comforts the office worker by saying that his troubles and feelings are relatable, having opened the store after being fired from his company job. Ran and Sonoko interrupt this warm moment and demand that both parties apologize immediately to Aya. They comply with this demand without any grudge.

With the case solved, Ran and Sonoko part ways with Aya, who is feeling better. Shinichi then reminds Ran about his inquiry, asking if she had recently entered his house for cleaning purposes. The girl denies, and Conan accepts her answer while concerningly staring out at his unlit mansion.
At the farewell party, Sonoko expresses her annoyance about an inebriated Jodie immediately falling asleep, while Ran calls her father, informing him that she will be staying over at Jodie's place. Ran then leaves for the bathroom where she reflects on how Shinichi saved her yet again. She also notices something hidden behind the mirror and opens the medicine cabinet, finding a plethora of photos primarily depicting her, Shinichi, and Conan.

File 429 - The Full Moon and the Trap at the Banquet

The Mouris receive a cryptic letter from "Vermouth."

Ran informs Kogoro about an off-season Halloween party invitation they received in the mail. The letter begins by taunting the detective before vividly describing a macabre party aboard a ship in a flowery prose. Annoyed, Kogoro asks who sent the letter. Ran is unsure but assumes the sender is a foreigner due to the letter being signed with the alphabet signature "Vermouth."

Conan stuns an unyielding Haibara.

Ran calls Agasa and asks if he knows anyone named Vermouth. The Professor replies that he does not before asking Ran if Kogoro intends on attending. She confirms, adding that Sonoko is in the process of testing various costume cosmetics on him. She clarifies that the party has a strict dress code: black suit or black dress with a costume depicting a monster of your choice. Agasa asks if she'll join her father but the girl erupts—clearly horrified by the thought of a monster party. Ran then asks if Shinichi has received an invitation. Seeing Conan motion a hush sign, Agasa lies about his ignorance and assures her that he'll send the letter her way if he finds one in his mail. Meanwhile, Conan peruses a copy of the same invitation letter presumably sent to Shinichi's address. Before ending the call, Ran asks Agasa to keep the event a secret from Conan as she ostensibly fears his impulsiveness, though internally, she thinks about her discovery behind Jodie's mirror. After the two hang up, a visibly sick Haibara asks Conan if he intends to attend the party. He says he will, intrigued by the sender's name, Vermouth, as it, like Gin and Vodka, is the name of an alcohol. Haibara states she is unaware of any Black Organization members with such a code name. Conan explains that "Vermouth" is the English name of the alcohol, while in Japanese, it's called "Berumot." Hearing the name, a jolt of fear and panic tears through Haibara (in the story, Haibara is only familiar with the Japanese pronunciation. In most English translations, no distinctions in pronounciation are made, and Vermouth's name remains as "Vermouth"). Conan interprets her reaction as confirmation that Vermouth is a member of the Black Organization, and states his intentions of attending. Haibara staunchly opposes the decision, pointing to the event as being a trap. Conan stuns her with his wristwatch, apologizing before stating that this is his only way forward. Meanwhile, Vermouth continues to listen-in on their conversation through the bugs she had previously placed. Hearing Conan's determination, she smiles.

Back at Agasa's house, Conan points out a crucial detail about the invitation letter. Alongside the salutation aimed at Shinichi, Conan is also named, implying the sender is aware of both his and Haibara's true identities. Shocked, Agasa questions why the organization has yet to move against them. Conan replies he doesn't know why, but has a rough idea. Conan's phone rings. The boy shushes Agasa before texting "OK" in heart symbols to an unknown recipient. Closing his phone, he turns to view his house from the window, noting that only one mystery remains: the identity of the individual recently entering his house.

The Invisible Man signs in as Shinichi Kudo (工藤新一).

A black Porsche 356 A drives down a bridge, driven by Gin with Vodka beside him. The latter asks why he is being assigned to attend the Halloween party. Gin answers that it is to keep an eye on Vermouth, expressing annoyance towards her secretive nature. He then orders Vodka to ignore her favorable standing with the Boss and execute her if she steps out of line.
Conan investigates the Kudo Residence by comparing the electricity, gas, and water meters to their displays earlier in the day. He concludes that they have shifted, meaning someone has been entering the house. He daringly enters through the front door and into the dark corridors, armed with his flashlight and shoes. He cautiously enters a room but fails to notice a silhouette holding a gun lurking behind the door.
A ragged and ghostly ship docks at a port as a wide range of foul and frightening monsters board. Kogoro, dressed as Count Dracula, and Sonoko, dressed as a Witch, wait in the check-in line as they marvel at the authentic performances of their fellow party-goers. The two also meet a beautiful woman dressed as Medusa. Finally their turn to board, Kogoro jovially asks a worker if they're actually going to kill someone, but the workers replies with confusion. Kogoro shows the worker his invitation. The man confirms the invitation itself is authentic but is unfamiliar with the envelope and accompanying letter. However, he does inform the detective that the party will feature an activity surrounding a murder mystery. As Kogoro and Sonoko hastily embark, the next attendee shows his invitation to the workers, who, stand in awe of his identity. The attendee, dressed as The Invisible Man, signs his name in the guest book as "Shinichi Kudo."

File 430 - The Haunted Ship Painted with Blood

The sun begins to set as Haibara regains consciousness, finding herself in Agasa's basement. She hears the voices of Conan and Agasa from the room above; they appear to discuss play-testing a newly designed game. Knowing the voices are a ruse, she goes to check her desk drawer and finds its contents have slightly shifted, indicating Conan had purloined one of her prototype antidote pills.

The ghostly captain's welcome.

On the ship, the captain welcomes the guests aboard the "Sea Phantom" and directs each guest to match with seven others who share the same tarot card. Kogoro sees "XV" and a caricature of a goat on his card, but Medusa clarifies that it represents 15 and the Devil respectively. Medusa further explains that the party doubles as an audition for extras in the annual film Records of the Ghost Captain's Voyage (幽霊船長の航海記). She points to a howling Werewolf, a robotic Frankenstein's Monster, and a reticent Mummy as examples of party-goers attempting to impress judges and secure a spot in the film. The captain then announces that the Sea Phantom will momentarily set sail, exciting the crowd. In the lower decks, several workers excitedly talk about Shinichi Kudo's presence aboard the ship, remarking that the rumors of his death were false. Nearby, a Zombie listens to their conversation in silence. On deck, Kogoro and Sonoko find they are paired with Medusa, the Werewolf, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, and the Invisible Man.

The crowd finds the captain dangling in the wind.

At the Agasa residence, Haibara picks up a phone call from Doctor Araide. He asks about Haibara's cold and notifies her that he was able to arrange a proper check-up with a doctor friend of his. He says they are available tonight and offers to pick her up. Haibara accepts.
Back on the ship, Kogoro, Sonoko, Medusa, and the Invisible Man attempt to find their group members before the activity begins. They enter the ship's bathroom and find it a dim unpleasant environment filled with cobwebs and broken mirrors. They find Frankenstein's Monster vigorously washing his hands while murmuring about his inability to wash off the blood on his hands. Sonoko calls out for the Werewolf and the Mummy. They then hear the Werewolf howl from within a stall before bursting out and running off while checking his watch. Kogoro soon finds him sitting at the cocktail bar. He attempts to be friendly with the Werewolf, even ordering an identical drink: a Silver Bullet. Still, the Werewolf continues his cavalier attitude and walks off with his drink while seemingly looking for something—much to Kogoro's concern. The lights then shut off as the captain's voice echos through the ship's hull. He introduces the first activity as a witch hut aimed at finding a fraud within the ship, a human masquerading as a monster. He directs everyone to rush to the deck for a hint. As the party-goers arrive, they find the captain swaying upside-down on the shrouds. Kogoro notices a red liquid drip onto the floor in front of him which Medusa identifies as real blood. Suddenly, the captain's body falls from up-high and crashes onto the wooden deck, revealing he has been shot with a crossbow bolt piercing an XV Devil card.
At Agasa's house, Haibara hears the doorbell ring and opens the door. Her eyes widen in a mix of fear and shock upon seeing the figure on the other side.

File 431 - The Invisible Man Enters!

Haibara attempts to shut the door, but is stopped. The visitor reveals herself to be Jodie, who claims that Araide's car had malfunctioned and is unable to pick her up; she has been sent in his stead. After some apprehension, Haibara allows Jodie to escort her into her car. As the pair drive off, Araide, driving a perfectly functioning vehicle, notices them leaving.
As the Sea Phantom slowly drifts atop the Pacific Ocean, its guests awkwardly stand around the captain's corpse. Medusa comments that the killer likely jettisoned his crossbow off deck, thus making it unrecoverable. Meanwhile, Kogoro removes the captain's mask and expresses familiarity with his face. Medusa says that he is Senzou Fukuura, a famous film producer tied to the Ghost Captain series. The event staff confirm that while Fukuura did not play the Ghost Captain role in the films, he would host the party audition each year as the character. Kogoro asks the staff the answer to the witch hunt activity Fukuura was introducing, but they reply that only he knew the answer. Kogoro believes the culprit must be one of the staff members. He cites how every attendee was inside the ship at the time of the shooting, leaving only staff members on the deck capable of shooting the crossbow. He additionally deduces that the XV Devil card attached to the bolt must be an attempt to frame one of the attendees for the crime. However, the staff correct him by stating there were several guests on deck during the shooting, and that the tarot cards used were of custom design and irreplicable by the event staff. Taking this information into account, Medusa figures that the culprit is most likely one of seven members in the XV Devil group. With one hour until the ship reaches Yokohama harbor, Medusa suggests they return inside and collect their thoughts. As the party-goers file into the doors, the Invisible Man crouches to the ground, noticing a small circular mark on the wooden deck. He notices a trail of similar marks leading to the shrouds. Kogoro calls the Detective Agency to tell Ran about his delayed return. He gets no response.

Meanwhile, Jodie drives Haibara through the streets of town as the latter notices Araide tailing them in his car.

Shinichi Kudo reveals himself.

Back aboard the ship, Kogoro directs everyone in his group to show their tarot cards. Only the Mummy fails, believing he had dropped it somewhere. Kogoro suspects him, but he explains that he is an undercover staff member who was tasked with judging attendees' make-up. Other Mummys corroborate his explanation, adding that Fukuura had personally applied each Mummy's make-up and taping, and that he also gave each Mummy a unique instruction such as drinking a certain alcohol, only eating chicken, and wearing a red wig. The only common instruction given was to remain silent. Hearing the Mummys' words, the Invisible Man leaves the crowd and heads for the bathroom. Once there, he closely examines the room's contents. Back at the crowd, Kogoro asks where the Mummy went after he left the group. He responds that he accompanied Frankenstein's Monster and the Werewolf to the bathroom. Though the Monster confirms he entered with them, he does not recall seeing him leave. The Mummy frantically states that he likely went unnoticed since someone had destroyed the mirrors. Kogoro further asks him where the Mummy was at the time of the crime, to which he answers that he was with the Werewolf. The Werewolf denies his alibi. While the interrogation continues, the Invisible Man climbs the shrouds to reach the crow's nest where he discovers a frightened rooster and another small circular mark. As Kogoro begins to label the Mummy as the true culprit, the ship's speakers blare with a voice directing everyone to the deck. Kogoro leads the charge as guests pour out onto the moonlit floor. They look up to see the Invisible Man perched on the crow's nest. He proclaims the start of his deduction as Kogoro recognizes his voice and mannerisms. The Invisible Man slowly unravels his bandages—making visible a very familiar face.

File 432 - Shinichi Kudo Appears!?

Vodka is staggered to see Shinichi Kudo alive.

The Invisible Man reveals himself to be Shinichi Kudo, shocking the crowd. The Zombie, revealed to be a disguised Vodka, is seen dumbfounded by this revelation as he distinctly remembers Gin poisoning the boy with a APTX4869 pill.
Jodie continues to drive Haibara, who, turns to make a request. The girl coughs in the process.
Kogoro remains steadfast in his belief that the Mummy is the culprit and demands Shinichi explain himself. The boy coughs before apologizing for his apparent mild cold.

Shinichi immediately begins by stating that the the Werewolf stole the Mummy's tarot card in the bathroom to frame him for the killing. Unconvinced, Kogoro beseeches the Mummy to answer if that is true. The Mummy is unsure. Shinichi elaborates that the Werewolf likely used a syringe to squirt chloroform into the Mummy's bathroom stall and waited for the Mummy to fall unconscious. He then climbed into his stall and stole the Mummy's card. Kogoro demands evidence, but Shinichi concedes that his theory is merely a guess as the syringe has probably been thrown overboard. Kogoro is still skeptical of the Werewolf's guilt as unlike the Mummy, he did not completely vanish. The Mummy exclaims that he was with the group as he left the bathroom. Shinichi asks Frankenstein's Monster to recount his actions in the bathroom. The Monster, as an active member of the horror community, managed to immediately identify the Mummy as a judge due to his constant messaging. He proceeded to follow the Mummy to the bathroom so he could act in-character for his consideration. However, he notes that the Werewolf had exited the stall that the Mummy had entered.

The Werewolf placed his mask on an unconscious Mummy.

Kogoro, now understanding, realizes that the Werewolf had placed his mask atop the unconscious Mummy's face and that the Werewolf he had interacted with prior to the shooting was actually the Mummy. Shinichi explains that the Mummy's extensive make-up and bandages had prevented him from realizing he wore a mask. Additionally, the Werewolf had broken the bathroom mirrors so as to not alert the Mummy about his new disguise. The two monster's near identical suits and gloves also worked to sell the effect.
Kogoro points out the impossibility that the Werewolf could guarantee that he would be paired with someone who both matches his clothing and is silent. The young detective disagrees, saying that the Werewolf had no specific target in mind and instead waited for anyone who satisfied his sartorial requirements to enter the bathroom. Kogoro further questions how the Mummy (disguised as the Werewolf) could have timed his exit from the stall in response to Sonoko's call if he was unconscious. Shinichi says he was woken by an alarm. Hearing this, Sonoko realizes that he must have been woken up by the Werewolf's howl, which was a pre-recorded sound built into the Werewolf's mask. Shinichi adds that the back of the mask likely contained a tracker and microphone which allowed the Werewolf to track his mask's whereabouts and listen for Sonoko's call. The Werewolf would activate the mask's howl to obfuscate the voice of anyone who attempted to refer to the Mummy as "the Werewolf." This strategy also explains why the Mummy claimed to be near the Werewolf after exiting the bathroom.
Finally, with his alibi made, the Werewolf was free to climb up to the deck and shoot the Captain with a crossbow. Shinichi finally states that once the crowd of party-goers spilled out onto the deck, the Werewolf melted into the chaos and used the opportunity to stealthy recollect his mask from the Mummy.

The Werewolf demands Shinichi present evidence. The detective accepts, stating there are two.

The Mummy was planned to be the Human amongst the Monsters.

First, the intended hint for the witch hunt was a rooster held by its tail. Seeing the hint, Medusa explains that a male rooster is called a "cock," and when combined with "tail," it spells "cocktail." Shinichi asks Kogoro what cocktail he drank. He responds he drank a Silver Bullet. The Mummy then exclaims that he too drank one as Fukuura had specifically directed him to do so. The Werewolf calls it a coincidence as he too drank a Silver Bullet. Shinichi questions the Werewolf on his choice of beverage, much to the Werewolf's annoyance. However, the wolf's annoyance slowly turns to shock as the realization hits him like a wave. Shinichi explains that the "Silver Bullet" is a famous artifact in horror described to be the only thing capable of killing a Werewolf. The Silver Bullet cocktail is additionally known as a drink which wards off evil. No horror fan attempting to sell the authenticity of their performance would order such a drink. Therefore, the captain most likely intended for the guests to interpret the clue as relating to the bar, and then flock to the bartender and ask him to divulge details about his servings. Whoever ordered the anti-monster drink, Silver Bullet, would be answer to the witch hunt. As proof, Medusa unravels the Mummy's bandages revealing "Human (人間)" written on his forehead (placed there when Fukuura did his make-up).
Second, successfully shooting someone with a crossbow in the dark is impossible. Thus, the Werewolf must have shot the captain from close range. Shinichi points to the series of circular marks approaching the shrouds and on the crow's nest and identifies it as an indent produced by a small piece of glass stuck to the bottom of the Werewolf's shoe. This piece of glass came from when the Werewolf shattered the bathroom mirrors. The police will surely match the shape of the glass shard to the marks on the floor, cementing the Werewolf as the true culprit of the crime.
As Kogoro goes to look at the Werewolf's shoes, he cries out and blames Vermouth, whom he calls the devil.

File 433
Kogoro interrogates the Werewolf about whether Vermouth directed him to assassinate the captain. The Werewolf clarifies that he committed the murder on personal grounds. He adds that he was shattered after Fukuura canceled his former series, the Butsumetsu Series, prematurely in order to make room for his new Ghost Captain films. After writing about his murderous desires on a murky internet forum, a user named Vermouth emerged and offered to provide him with weapons and a method. Although the Werewolf refused at first, he began receiving troubling photographs of his family members and records of his day-to-day activities. Vermouth also threatened to kill members of his family if he brought the harassment case to the police.

Jodie drives Haibara on the docks of a harbor beside several rows of shipping containers. She deftly performs a J-turn and stops before a pursuing Araide. The two adults exit their cars and inquire about the other. Araide questions Jodie's intentions with Haibara. Jodie replies that she was just taking her on a drive and that she has a considerable amount of free time, unlike him. She reminds Araide about the approaching court hearing about his father's murder, and that he must conceal the fact that his family helper, Hikaru Yasumoto, pulled the trigger. Jodie claims that Kogoro had told her the truth about the case. Confused, Araide retorts, stating that the culprit was not Hikaru but his mother-in-law, and that the cause of death was electrocution and not gunshot. Jodie smirks.

Vermouth revealed.

Jodie laughs, clarifying that the trigger she mentioned referred to a circuit breaker and not to a gun. She explains that in order not to hurt Hikaru with the truth about her unintentional involvement, the police and the culprit agreed to alter the case report. She then remarks that the case files he stole from the police headquarters made no mention of the true cause of death. Araide is stunned. He asks her who she is. "A secret makes a woman woman," she replies. Jodie says that those were the last words her enemy said to her, the enemy who killed her father. She then identifies Araide as a disguised Chris Vineyard, as Vermouth.

File 433 - The Truth Behind the Mask

Jodie recalls the continuation of her previous flashback. Jodie (the little girl) notices Vermouth (the woman in black) holding her father's glasses. The woman apologizes and returns the pair to Jodie, who notices her father's corpse and assumes he is asleep. Vermouth asks the little girl to stay by her father's side until he wakes up, to which Jodie happily accepts.

Jodie asks why Vermouth doesn't age.

In the present day, Jodie narrates her memory to Vermouth, adding that the latter proceeded to set fire to the house—destroying her father's FBI case files on the Black Organization. She reveals that her survival was due to her leaving the house to obtain orange juice, a drink she associated with properties that would help her father wake up. Vermouth expresses surprise in learning that Jodie was the little girl, saying that she attempted to find her after the authorities only recovered the remains of her parents. Jodie explains that her father's colleagues placed her in the Witness Protection Program where she'd eventually go on to become an FBI agent herself. She applauds Vermouth's unmatched ability in espionage before divulging details surrounding their operations against her. After observing an undisguised Chris Vineyard routinely visit Araide's clinic over a mild illness, they deduced that Vermouth would attempt to kill him and take his place in society. In response, the FBI staged an accident using Araide's family car—driving it off of a cliff and into the sea—right in front of a tailing Vermouth. Jodie further says that members of her team used oxygen tanks to escape the wreckage. Nevertheless, they succeeded in selling the idea that Araide and his entire family had drowned without anyone other than Vermouth as a witness. Just as the Bureau predicted, Vermouth assumed Araide's identity and began operating out of his clinic. Still unsure of her motives, Jodie had surreptitiously entered Vermouth's lair in the clinic and found a dartboard highlighting a girl with reddish brown hair in her late teenage years. Believing Vermouth to be hunting this girl, Jodie asks why she is certain that her target is Haibara, a significantly younger, albeit identical, elementary schooler. The agent further inquires about the two additional photographs attached to the dartboard depicting Conan and Ran labeled "Cool Guy" and "Angel" respectively. She wonders why Vermouth would not strike Haibara in the presence of Conan, and why Vermouth had gone so far as to risk her life to protect Conan from the bus hijackers. Vermouth remains silent as she listens to the events unfold aboard the Sea Phantom.

The crowd showers Shinichi with applause and adoration for swiftly solving the mystery. The boy shows humility, stating that he was able to infer the culprit's methods because he is employing the same trick.

The double reveal.

Jodie fires her gun and disarms Vermouth before ordering her to remain still. Jodie then asks a pivotal question: "Why don't you age?" The agent explains that Chris Vineyard first drew her attention when she publicly repeated her phrase "a secret makes a woman woman" at her mother, Sharon Vineyard's, funeral. After mustering up the courage, Jodie cross-examined a fingerprint left on the lens of her father's glasses with those of Chris Vineyard's, finding they were identical. However, confounding the investigation is the fact that Chris Vineyard appears too young to be the young adult woman who murdered Jodie's father twenty years ago. Lost, Jodie threw a wild pitch and compared Chris' fingerprints to a related individual: Sharon Vineyard. To Jodie's horror, she found that Chris and her mother were the same person. Vermouth keeps her silence, prompting Jodie to call for her associates to come forward and restrain the target. Suddenly, the agent is grazed by a speeding bullet, knocking her back and against her car. Vermouth smiles and walks forward while thanking Calvados for the strike. She reminds her sniper not to kill Jodie yet as she wishes to interrogate her. The agent weakly asks what had happened. Vermouth replies that she knew Jodie was trying to lure her to this location for a coordinated arrest so she arrived at the site two hours earlier disguised as Jodie to call off the operation. Vermouth reveals she had an ulterior motive behind lifting Kogoro Mouri's case files from the police headquarters. By stealing files relating to Kogoro, the FBI would attempt to uncover a link between Vermouth's motivations and Kogoro Mouri's activities, thus dispatching several agents to spy on his Detective Agency. By using his agency as a trap, Vermouth was able to gauge the FBI's numbers and collect addresses and contact information—allowing her to foresee aspects of Jodie's plan. Additionally, Vermouth had purposely placed photographs of Shiho in her lair so that the FBI would pounce on the lead and locate Haibara for her. Vermouth admits she was caught off guard by the purposeful discrepancy in Araide's case file and asks how the FBI was able to collect such deeply personal intelligence. Jodie says that she was given the information by Haibara during the car ride, and that if she used the information to successfully lure out Vermouth, she would gain her trust. Haibara blankly stares at Vermouth from behind the car window. She coughs.

Shinichi coughs. Sonoko and Kogoro ask for him to clarify what he meant by employing the same trick as the culprit. Shinichi begins to grasp at his upper neck.

The real Haibara enters the picture.

Suddenly, a soccer ball bursts through the window and disarms Vermouth. The woman steps backward in surprise. Haibara exits the car and grasps at her upper neck and pulls her disguise off revealing herself to be Conan.
Shinichi's face flutters through the air as Heiji Hattori reveals himself to be the detective aboard the Sea Phantom. Kogoro and Sonoko are astonished by the perfect impersonation. Meanwhile, Medusa, revealed to be Yukiko, internally relishes over her work of art. Heiji had attached a Microphone to his finger which he used to quietly relay his deduction to Conan, who then used his Voice-Changing Face Mask in tandem with his Speaker to voice Shinichi for the crowd. Heiji states he has wrapped up his end and wishes Conan good luck.
Conan aims his Stun-gun Wristwatch at Vermouth and instructs her not to move so that she continues to block the sniper's shot. He aims to get both her and Jodie back into the car and to drive to a nearby police station. However, without warning, a wildcard emerges; the real Haibara, sporting a spare pair of Tracking Glasses, arrives on the scene.

Ran bursts out of Jodie's trunk and immediately protects Haibara.

File 434 - Rotten Apple

Gins responds to a call from Vodka who informs him about the bizarre spectacle he witnessed involving Shinichi Kudo. Gin says he does not remember the boy, stating that he chooses to forget those he has killed.

Still aboard the ship, Kogoro and Sonoko protest Heiji's second act of blatant identity theft. He laughs off his complaints while internally reflecting on how Conan asked him to attend the party to act as a red herring. Yukiko is revealed to have been the "intruder" in the Kudo Residence and had been anxiously monitoring Conan for some time. Heiji also comments on her skills as a make-up artist, likening her talent to that of Arsène Lupin. Finally, he thinks about the only wild factor Conan's plan: Haibara. The two boys failed to find the spare Tracking Glasses in Haibara's drawer, and were thus unable to confiscate the one tool she could use to reach Conan. Heiji considers that if he was in her position, he would not just stand by.

Shuichi Akai foils Vermouth's plan.

At the docks, Haibara stands before her huntress, Vermouth. Conan begs for her to run. Vermouth exploits the boy's lapse of concentration and flips the Stun-gun Wristwatch back at its user and fires a dart, knocking him unconscious. She then pulls a gun from her ankle holster and prepares to execute Sherry.
Meanwhile, Yukiko thinks about what Conan told her before the mission. He believes Vermouth refuses to harm him partly because of her connection with Yukiko. As Sharon Vineyard, she would be familiar with young Shinichi's face from the times Yukiko would show her his childhood photo albums. Therefore, she likely recognized Conan as Shinichi and chose to keep her friend's son away from harm. Yukiko hopes that is true.

Despite Vermouth ridiculing her seemingly suicidal decisions, Haibara remains unwavering. She states that even if Vermouth is captured, the Black Organization will never stop chasing her. She has come to end things. In exchange, she demands that Vermouth spare Conan and Jodie. Vermouth accepts the former's case but not the latter. The woman points her gun at the little girl and says "if you're going to resent someone, it should be your parents who continued developing this foolish experiment." Suddenly, Jodie's car trunk bursts open and out pops Ran, who, immediately rushes towards Haibara. All parties struggle to comprehend why she is present. Jodie wonders if Ran had seen the photos behind her mirror. Calvados attempts to shoot Ran, but Vermouth yells at him to stop—firing several rounds towards her sniper to better send her message. Ran tackles Haibara to the ground and forms a protective barrier between Haibara and her aggressor. Ran stops her attempt to break free, pinning her to the ground to keep her safe. Ran's protective actions remind Haibara of her sister, Akemi. Vermouth shoots the ground around the pair, imploring Ran to move away. "Move it, Angel!" she screams while remembering the time Ran saved her from falling to her death in New York. Jodie takes the opportunity to shoot Vermouth in her dominant arm, robbing her of her ability to aim a gun. The two women hear the reloading of a Remington shotgun. Vermouth assumes Calvados is approaching with his signature weapon and directs him to execute Jodie. However, Shuichi Akai stands before her. He wields Calvados' weapons which he stole while incapacitating him. He taunts Vermouth before foiling a feeble attempt at retaliation by discharging a round of bullets into her stomach. Jodie urges Akai not to kill her. He assures her that judging by her movements, she is wearing bulletproof pads under her clothing. He also points out the open cuts forming on her skin as proof that "Chris Vineyard" is her true face. Vermouth dashes towards Jodie's car, using Conan as a shield. She quickly drives off while destroying the other car by shooting its gas tank, effectively stranding her adversaries. As the two FBI agents bicker about their predicament, a shot echoes from the direction of the intended prisoner. To Akai's surprise, Calvados carried an additional gun which he used to commit suicide. As the police draw near, Jodie notices that both Ran and Haibara have lost consciousness—still locked in their defensive embrace. Akai tells Jodie to spin the situation as a story about an off-duty FBI agent who foiled an attempt at child-abduction (Ran and Haibara as the "victims" and Calvados as the "kidnapper"). He then begins to walk away, adding that he is not yet ready to meet Haibara face-to-face.

Vermouth's critical gamble.

Vermouth drives the car into the woods where she receives a message from the Black Organization Boss, who, writes that they've given her too much freedom and directs her to return to them. Vermouth obliges, replying "OK." She then turns to Conan as she thinks about what to do about him. She notices something strange and cuts open his shirt, revealing a network of telemeters and recorders. Believing he tried to record her phone's sound, she tries to unplug the device, but is stopped when Conan reveals he is awake. He explains that if she pulls the plug, his heart will stop and the data he harvested on her text conversation with the Boss will go public. The boy explains that although telephone companies are required by law to keep user information confidential, with the proper clearance, the police can request specifics about a user's phone number and even identify addresses of a landline. In other words, by analyzing the sound recording of Vermouth entering the Boss' phone number, one can decipher their name and location. Finally, he tells her about his nearby friend who has his location and is eagerly waiting for a transmission. He gives her an ultimatum: let the audio recording be transmitted or take him directly to the Boss. After a moment of pause, Vermouth admits defeat and promises to stop hunting Sherry. She then taps a button on her phone releasing an incapacitating gas into the car. Conan is caught off guard, exclaiming that she too will lose consciousness. Vermouth agrees, saying this act is a gamble. If Conan wakes up first, he can arrest her and face the Boss with the help of the police. If Vermouth wakes up first, she implies she will destroy his evidence and take his life. Hearing the commotion over the speaker, Agasa panics and drives to find Conan. His dread is punctuated with a sudden gunshot.

Vermouth lies to Gin, protecting her Angel and Silver Bullet.

After a few moments, Gin is seen speeding in his car while on the phone with badly injured Vermouth. She calls him from a roadside phone booth and informs him that her plans were foiled by Akai. Gin confirms that one year ago, Vermouth had unsuccessfully attempted to lure out and eliminate Akai by assuming the identity of the New York serial killer. Vermouth says that the Boss considers Akai as a potential "Silver Bullet," an individual capable of singlehandedly shattering the entire Black Organization. Gin laughs at the idea, asserting that no such entity exists. Vermouth then asks for a pick up. Before obliging, Gin asks her, "Do you know the boy named Shinichi Kudo?" Vermouth pictures the time Shinichi and Ran saved her in New York and confidently lies, "no, I do not." Back in the forest, Agasa finally locates the car, finding Conan unharmed. The boy jolts awake and feels extreme annoyance at the sight of his destroyed recorder. Meanwhile, as Vermouth awaits her extraction, she thinks to herself, believing with great confidence, that if anyone can become her long-awaited Silver Bullet, it's him.
