Detective Conan: Dimensional Sniper (名探偵コナン 異次元の狙撃手,Meitantei Konan: Ijigen no Sunaipā?) is the 18thmovie in the Detective Conan franchise. It was released in Japan on April 19, 2014 and it was directed by Kobun Shizuno and written by Kazunari Kouchi. The movie brought box office income of 4.11 billion yen. The movie have its pre-story tie-in episode, The Coded Invitation.
As part of the Detective Conan: Cinema Saturdays event in Anime! on TMS Official Channel, the movie had a limited release between August 16th to August 24th 2025 with English subs.
Tokyo is in panic. A mysterious sniper haunts the city, killing former U.S. Special Forces members. Conan and the FBI are forced to hurry as the death toll mounts and the prime suspect for the murders is inexplicably found dead himself! Sera Masumi and Subaru Okiya have their movie debuts here.
After participating in the opening ceremony, Conan, Ran, Professor Agasa, Haibara, Sonoko, and the Detective Boys are enjoying the view from the observation deck of the 635-metre tall Bell Tree Tower. Suddenly, a bullet breaks through a window, strikes a man's chest and breaks a TV screen, causing everyone to panic. Conan stays calm and, using the zoom function on his tracking glasses to follow the path of the bullet to its source, spots the sniper. He and Masumi Sera, who had been present at the Tower as part of an assignment to shadow the victim, pursue the fleeing culprit on Masumi's motorcycle, but the chase takes a violent turn when the suspect uses a handgun and even hand grenades to take out his pursuers. Even the FBI get involved in the chase, but the culprit and the mysteries of the sniping end up vanishing into the ocean.
The investigation turns up a connection to the special United States Navy squadron, the Navy SEALS and other former US military officers working in Japan. However, the first sniping was just the beginning; as more people are shot, the citizens of Tokyo panic! What is the meaning of the rifle case and dice left behind? As his investigation progresses, Conan soon finds himself in the sniper's crosshairs, only to be saved by Masumi who intervenes and takes the bullet in his stead. And, in the background, Subaru Okiya begins to make his move.

Masumi and Conan followed and tracked the sniper, who decided to shoot them. Her Motorcycle helmet is what saved her life, as well as Conan pushing them off the motorcycle, however the sniper was walking closer to finish them both off, when the FBI showed up and began shooting at the sniper and to save them both.

Again, with the bullet, the killer left a dice numbered 2. The police found a diary that suggests that Timothy Hunter was being challenged by his killer.
Whenever everyone was using Umbrellas to protect themselves from what appears to be a random killing spree, people heard what sounded like gunshots, and began panicking.
The sniper/culprit is Kevin Yoshino, while the entire murder plan was created by his master Timothy Hunter. Kevin became Hunter's student and helped him carry out the plan because he wanted to repay Hunter for saving his life during their war operations in the Middle East.

A year ago in the Lebanon War Bill shot Timothy in the head, but he did not die.
The reason for the serial killings was that Waltz was jealous of Hunter's achievements, which belittled his own actions. Waltz set Hunter up so the silver star he earned would be revoked. He even ordered Murphy to assassinate Hunter, but the bullet failed to kill him, although a fragment of it remained in Hunter's skull and damaged his optical nerves, severely impairing him. Yoshino eventually discovered the deception, but Waltz destroyed the evidence before it could be used in court, driving Hunter into conceiving his revenge plan. The five sniping positions used for the murders, if viewed from ground level, combine to form a pentagon, which marks five points that form a star signifying the Silver Star that was stolen from Hunter.
Kevin attempted to kill Waltz, but Conan saved the latter by kicking a ball at him to knock him out of the bullet's way. Kevin then attempted to kill Conan, but Subaru saved him.
Ran, unaware of Conan's plan to save Ayumi decides to go after Kevin herself but is grazed by a bullet fired by Kevin. She ends up tripping and ends up being Kevin's target instead. She is saved thanks to the combined efforts of Conan and Subaru, and she manages to take Kevin down using her karate - for Ayumi, Sonoko and Sera. Afterwards, Subaru Okiya answers a call from James Black with Shuichi Akai's voice. In the end, both Kevin Yoshino and Jack Waltz are arrested for their crimes.
This is the only movie to feature Iemasa Kayumi as the voice of James Black (not counting Lupin III vs. Detective Conan: The Movie), as he passed away on September 30, 2014.
Even though Hunter was the main suspect until his murder, it was already shown that he's not the sniper at the beginning of the movie, as he can be seen walking on the street while the real culprit is escaping on bike.
This film has a reference to the film Silence of the Lambs: a scene in this film which the culprit watches Jodie through night vision goggles closely mirrors that of The Silence of the Lambs scene where the murderer watches Clarice Starling through night vision goggles.
The bike used by the culprit in the first chase (Shinjuku Se 33-17 (新宿 せ 33－17)) is a Honda XR 250R. Despite being an unmarked bike, this conclusion can be come to by the distinct red, white and black color scheme, as well as the fact that it is the only off-road bike with no windshield in the Honda line-up to be road legal.
Moriyama drove a 2008 Sparkling Graphite Metallic BMW 3-Series; 330d (E90). The license plate number is 新宿 330, ま 8 05 (Shinjuku 330, Ma 8 05).
Carlos Lee drives a white Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse [W204]. The license plate number is 新宿 330, な 30-58 (Shinjuku 330, Na 30-58).
Kevin Yoshino's vans are a gray Daihatsu MOVE CUSTOM PARCO (L900S) and a black 2001 Mazda Bongo Friendee [SG].
Jodie Starling's vehicle is a 2003 Mercedes-Benz CLK320 Elegance (Obsidian Black Metallic / Brilliant Silver Metallic (A209: Convertible)).
The culprit's weapons are a SIG-Sauer P228, an IMI Micro Uzi, a Knight's Armament SR-25 with Harris bipod Mk 11 Mod 0 (used to kill Fujinami and Moriyama) and a Barrett M107.
Timothy Hunter's sniper rifle was a MK 11 Mod 0.
Bill Murphy's gun used to shoot Timothy's head in the war scene is a pre-war Colt M1911A1 Pistol.
Jack Waltz's sniper rifle is a Remington M24 SWS.
The setting place and the location shown in the ending credits is Tokyo Skytree in Asakusa.
The name "Bell Tree" comes from a direct translation of the name Suzuki, with Suzu (鈴) meaning "bell" and ki (木) meaning "tree".
Subaru Okiya's identity as Shuichi Akai is essentially revealed during the final sniper battle, as it is revealed that the "only sniper able to shoot that far [from Asakusa Sky Court] is missing, presumably dead..." and was part of the FBI. This is later confirmed when Subaru clicks a button under his sweater while talking to James Black, his voice returning to Shuichi Akai's.
The same police car from Mystery of the Burning Tent appeared and was shot by the culprit and damaged. It suggests the car has at least been repaired once.
The movie is promoted with two special guest voice actors. Comedian Patrick Harlan of the Comedy-Duo Pakkun Makkun as Jack Waltz and actor Sota Fukushi as Kevin Yoshino. Detective Akahoshi's voice actor also is a guest star, as he is Norihiro Akahoshi, a professional baseball player.[1][2]
In the Netflix live action series Prince of Tennis (2019), two of the characters were shown watching the Chinese version of this movie in episode 13.
