Hiroshi Ogawa (小川 浩 Ogawa Hiroshi ) is a Japanese animation director and mechanical designer. He has consistently been tasked with the mechanical design (design works) of the Detective Conan anime since episode 921: The Murderous Carpool.
Biography
Hiroshi Ogawa was originally a member of "Ammonite", a design studio created in 1983 by Ogawa, Hirotoshi Okura and Takashi Ono, in an attempt to revive Tatsunoko Production's "character room", which specialized in mechanical design, the creation of props and machines like cars, trains and airplanes, for television animation series[1]. With Ogawa responsible for design, Okura responsible for the machines' functions and Ono as director, the studio soon caught the eye of big production companies for its efficient task division. The trio's working style was later an inspiration in the animation series "Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross", where a group a three alien triplets control their society in a similar fashion[2].
The studio later renamed itself to "Studio Santa Claus" (スタジオ・サンタクロース), but later closed down. From then on, Ogawa worked as an independent mechanical designer. He joins the production team of Detective Conan in late 2018 and is tasked with mechanical design, taking over from Kumiko Shishido. He has responsible for mechanical design ever since and notably did the mechanical design for movies 26 and 27, released in 2023 and 2024 respectively.
He was responsible for prop design (similarly related to mechanical design) in season 1 of the Zero's Tea Time anime for episodes 1, 2, 5 and 6.
