The Spanish version of the Detective Conan manga started in 1998. It was first published by Planeta DeAgostini Comics (since October 2014 Planeta Comics, a Planeta company). After 6 volumes the company paused the publication due to low sales. After 9 months, it continued with a cheaper price but finally it was cancelled in 2000, after 13 volumes were published. Two years later and after the anime started airing in Spain, the company decided to continue the series in a new format, called "Vol. 2". This format split a regular volume in two, in order to have a lower price per sale. As the first issue was difficult to find in stores, a new version called "Vol. 1" was launched in 2004, including the first 13 volumes. In issue 33 of "Vol.2", volumes started to have the same pages number as the original Japanese version, causing a different numeration in Spanish version.
In 2011, Planeta decided to create its own Tankōbon version, selling 2 regular volumes in a unique book. This version is know as "Detective Conan (Nueva Edición)" (Detective Conan (new edition) in Spanish) and has no difference with the old versions.

Gallego (vol. 35 and 37-70 of "Vol. 2"), Jesús Espí (vol. 36 and 71-104 of "Vol. 2") and Daruma (volumes of the Nueva Edición collection and since vol. 105 of "Vol.2"[1]). The direction of reading is inverted from the Japanese version. Puns are adapted to Spanish (sometimes adapting also the drawing) and as the image is inverted, left handed people become right handed in this version and translation adapts to it. Also, the characteristic Conan image in the book spine is only shown in the fist issue edition and the others (vol.1, vol2. and the new edition) do not have it. This version is sold in Spain and Andorra.
In October 2021, at the Barcelona Conference, Planeta announces that it will release a new version of Gosho Aoyama's Short Stories[2]. In late 2022, the price of the Volumen 2 collection is raised from 7,95 to 8,95, and previous volumes that cost 7,95 were also upscaled[3]. As part of the generalized raise of the price of goods in Europe after the Covid-19 pandemic, prices were raised again in Mid-2023 to 9,50 euros for regular volumes, 13,95 for Nueva Edición volumes and 8,50 euros for Gosho Aoyama's Collection of Short Stories.
