The English version of the Detective Conanmanga is published by Viz Media since September 2004 under the name Case Closed, after the company bought the rights for it in June 2004[1]. Its release keeps the names used in the FUNimation's English dub, but non-localized characters keep their Japanese names[2]. The Viz Media's English version of the manga is sold in North America, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia[3].
In 2014, Shogakukan Asia announced its own serialization of the series in English, but kept the original character names and series name. It was noted by some that the two English versions were the same, except for the name changes[4]. In late September 2023, for the release of Volume 89 in January 2024, prices were upscaled to $11.99, the first time since the start of the English publishing.
The first 11 volumes translation was assured by Joe Yamazaki[5] and in volumes 12-20 by Naoko Amemiya[6]. Since Volume 21, the translation is assured by Tetsuichiro Miyaki[7].
