Case[edit]

Situation[edit]

Located in Tokyo Bay, the newly built integrated resort and convention center "Edge of Ocean" is going to host an upcoming Summit Meeting. Prior to the Summit, an explosion went off at one of the building, killing and injuring many Public Security Bureau personnel performing inspection there, including Tooru Amuro and Yuya Kazami.

Location: Edge of Ocean
Victim: Police officers inside the building (fatal) and outside (non-fatal).
Cause of death: Explosion
Suspects: Kogoro Mouri
As officers were patrolling in preparation of the summit, a bomb exploded inside the Edge of the Ocean in the Japanese traditional restaurant.

A preliminary investigation found the fingerprint which matches the Kogoro's, and with other evidence purportedly located inside his computer, Kogoro is arrested. After a hopeless search for a lawyer who is willing to represent Kogoro in the trial, Ran, Eri, and Conan encountered a freelance lawyer, Kyoko Tachibana, who offered to represent Kogoro in the case.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Attorney-General believes that the evidence incriminating Kogoro is sufficient to build the case, and Sayoko Iwai, the Attorney-General, instructed Makoto Kusakabe to prosecute Kogoro. At the same time, the police investigation of the case is ongoing, and it was discovered that the gas valve and pressurized cooker can be connected to the internet (Internet of Things (IoT)) and that the two was remotely accessed via Nor (resembling Tor) through Kogoro's device to cause the explosion. On the day of the conference, people are experiencing strange cases of IoT devices malfunctioning, causing electrical short circuit and fire around Tokyo. At that time, Kogoro was being held in Tokyo Penitentiary, which means Kogoro could not have been the culprit in the bombing and the IoT attack, and the case against him was dropped.

Trivia[edit]

Poster
  • This movie became the highest grossing Detective Conan movie, continuing the series record of each movie surpassing the next ever since The Eleventh Striker.
  • In order to know more about where his character works, Rei Furuya's voice actor read the book Secret Police Division J before recording the lines for his character.
  • This law case is clearly modeled after The Bay of Revenge. Kyoko Tachibana bears a strange resemblance with Kensuke Tachibana, the famous and corrupt Tokyo lawyer killed here, and has the same surname kanji. The movie doesn't show the picture on her former law office's desk, but the painting near the door is clearly about the threes on the left of Tachibana villa, and the one behind her about some threes at the cape where he lived. Then, she is surely his daughter, born from a previous marriage because his wife Yuki is too young. Open spoiler box to see images.
  • Sayoko Iwai and Makoto Kusakabe are clearly modeled after Reiko Kujo and Sasaki.
  • A police poster represents volume 23.
  • In the karaoke bar from file 1013, Naeko sings the movie ending.
  • A Honda Odyssey 2015 passed in front of Cafe Poirot. The license plate number was 300 7-75.
  • The store where Azusa and Amuro shop is called Cosdoc Wholesale and is designed the same way as Costco Wholesale, an american multinational corporation which operates a chain of warehouse-clubs.
  • An Audi TTs 2016 passed in front of Amuro's car. The license plate number was 300 43-91.
  • This movie is by far, the case in which the most announcers appear with a total number of "eight", including Sayoko Shokoku and Naoki Yasumura.
  • This is the first case of a cyberterrorist from Cipher in The Fate of the Furious.
  • The name of the browsing software Nor as well as its logo are taken from Tor browser which protects users' privacy and allows them to access blocked websites.
  • NAZU refers to NASA agency in the USA.
