The culprit is Ayami Yamaki. Yamaki went first to choose the leftmost cabin and waited for Nanbu to depart to create her first trick : she removed the ribbons from her present package and taped them to a pair of soles she put over her phone in front of the rightmost cabin, to make it believe that cabin was taken by another customer with high-heeled sandals. She then quickly took her second trick out of her bag : a straw whose both ends she had closed with a hair straightener after putting into the straw some chloroform. She sneaked into her boss's future cabin and opened one end of a straw with scissors to pour the chloroform on the first cabin mask of the box, then left as her boss arrived and took obviously the remaining central cabin. As Sashihara put the mask on, she accordingly passed out due to breathing chloroform, and Yamaki entered once again the cabin with a rope to strangle her, before leaving, and retrieving the fake shoes, which allowed Nitsuka to enter the rightmost cabin at last.
She then discarded the incriminating items (straw cut into pieces, scissors, tape) in the bin, taped again the ribbons to her present, put the soles into her own stilettos, recovered her phone, and waited for Nanbu to come back and check if Sashihara needed help, discovering the murder. Yamaki tried to kill Sashihara a week ago but this failed as Nitsuka entered too early the cabin Yamaki had prepared for her boss, and accordingly Nitsuka passed out due to the chloroformed mask, while she thought this was all due to Sashihara's dog's hair to which she's allergic, hence the need for sandals trick to prevent Nitsuka from unknowingly foiling her plan the second time.
Sashihara pointed out Yamaki as her murderer by reddening one of her fancy nails with her lipstick, and showing it forward all the while clenching her fist : the fancy nail patterns are yellow stars, and the red on it indicates China, a country she knew well. She wanted people to understand that in China they count in another way, they can count up to 10 with a single hand. Sashihara's other hand actually shows a kind of gun-like shape, but it actually refers to the way Chinese people show the "8" figure. And it indicates the Kanji for "eight" in Yamaki's name.
Yamaki left her fingerprints on the tape in the bin, proving she's the murderer, she didn't think anyone would find out her tricks. The second evidence is her feet and shoes probably covered in dog's hair, which is weird and means she went really close to her boss, to murder her then.
Yamaki did it because she had been humiliated by the victim when she dressed her dog in the same outfit as Yamaki. Yamaki understood that she was a slave to her boss and wanted to leave the company, but couldn't since she was in debt to her boss.
Conan thinks about how Masumi didn't know the difference between how Americans and Japanese count and how Europeans count, and connects it to other instances of Masumi saying and doing things that someone who lived in America wouldn't—being surprised at how thin a baseball bat was, and keeping her fork in her left hand while eating during the Red Woman case, and referring to soccer as "football" during the Romance Novelist case. Conan realizes that these instances show that Masumi actually lived in the United Kingdom, not in the United States — in Britain, cricket is more popular than baseball and has a wider bat, when eating, one would not switch the fork to the right hand, as is the case in the United States, and the British refer to association football as "Football", while in the U.S. it's called "Soccer".
As Conan wonders why Masumi would lie about this, he begins to think of England, and finally remembers.
Flashback ten years ago.
Mary, Shuichi, Shukichi and Masumi are out on a beach in Japan. This is the first time Shuichi meets his little sister, Masumi. He shows a wound from a knife strike from Mary, due to a fight they had earlier that day. The reason for the fight was Shuichi's decison to join the FBI and see the truth behind the incident involving his father. He explains how he has found a good part-time job to live off on his own in America.
Mary remarks how her husband told them in a mail to go to a safe country like Japan and think of him as dead as he got himself involved with some horrible people. Meanwhile, little Masumi tries her best to make Shuichi laugh. Upon Mary's remark to Masumi about getting chip salt under her nose, Yukiko, who is nearby, correctly deduces their home country, which is England. She enquires about having seen a little boy in green shorts, and moves ahead.
Little Shinichi comes across the Akai family. He says Shuichi must be a pierrot, based on the bruise mark on his left wrist which is left by playing an accordian, and his left eye has a crying makeup (which actually is the bruise from the fight mentioned earlier). This makes Shuichi laugh. He confesses to having played the accordian at a bar on a request as a part time job.
When he asks Shinichi who he is, he replies as 'Holmes' Apprentice'.
Just then, they spot a car breaking the rails and jumping over a cliff into the sea water.
File 973 - Investigator among Ripples
Seeing the car drown, Shuichi plunges into the water towards it.
He notices that the driver, not having put the seat belt on, died on hitting the water and the passenger side window is fully open. He brings up the dead driver of the car to the shore along with a bag full of watches left on the backseat. He then tells Shinichi to go at the store selling swimsuits and look for any one dripping wet. He makes Ran tell Yukiko to call the police, and Masumi to ask the parking lot staff to look for any soaking wet person leaving the beach.
Shuichi remarks to the police about there being another person escaped from the drowning car, and since blended in the crowd. He deduces that the driver and the missing companion are robbers responsible for the robbery theft of watches that happened earlier that day. Shinichi with the help of Shuichi gets three suspects to appear.
Fukumzu Shigekatsu explains how he was pushed in the water by his girlfriend from a rubber boat. When he surfaced up, he found the wallet left on the boat. She left and he had to change into t-shirts and shorts at the store.
Kitamori Yasue says her sandal's strap tore from swimming a lot in the sea, and thus she had to buy a new one at the store. She had left her wallet in a locker.
Ooami Raiya tells he was robbed while he went to have a shower, and hence had to buy a shirt at the store. His wallet was safe, since he kept it among the bath towels while showering. He flaunts the two watches on his hands, one showing Japan time and the other showing New york.
Yukiko calls Yusaku, who is at the hotel, and sends him the pictures of the suspects. Upon looking at it once, Yusaku sees through it all. At the beach, Shuichi also reaches the truth.
The other robber is Yasue Kitamori. Yusaku and Shuichi explain that they knew this from her purchase, a pair of beach sandals. Since the other robber fell into the sea, the bank notes in the robber's wallet would be drenched and thus too suspicious to pay with. Unlike the clothes the other two suspects purchased, Yasue's sandals were cheap enough to pay for them with coins instead. Secondly, Yusaku and Shuichi noticed that Yasue's watch was stuck at 10:10. This time is what watches on display at shops are usually set to, since the handles don't obstruct the brand logos this way. All branded watches have serial numbers, so it will only take a simple comparison between Yasue's watch and the ones stolen during the robbery to prove her involvement in the crime. Yasue confesses and explains that during their escape, she and her partner got into an argument over Yasue taking the watch from the loot for herself and that this argument caused the car crash.
Conan realizes that Masumi knows that he is Shinichi Kudo, the Akai family's middle brother is Shukichi Haneda, and that their mother is Mary, now somehow shrunken.
Masumi thinks to herself that while Conan has finally remembered her, and has remembered that he made Shuichi smile and laugh when she could not, there is another reason she calls him a "wizard", a reason which he does not know.

Kogoro complains of having a bad day. He had to face rains without an umbrella after returning from the betting office, his favourite cigarette was sold out at the vending machine, he bumped into someone thus dropping all the coins from his wallet, and also his wallet fell in a puddle thus wetting the betting tickets. Conan points out that Kogoro has won that day's betting, which was hundred fold betting for 10,000 yen, and whose winning total thus amounts to 1 million yen. Ran remarks that he never buys tickets worth above 1,000 yen. Conan says he might have picked it up after bumping into someone back then. Kogoro decides to treat them sushi for supper.
Wakita Kanekori, the waiter at the Iroha sushi, correctly deduces that Kogoro won that day's betting. He tells how he moves around places for work, as staying at one place isn't his style. He goes on to tell that having injured one eye, he is unable to help in the kitchen and is therefore ask to serve the tables. Conan wonders about Rum having an artificial eye. While the food is served, Wakita asks Kogoro to recite some of his cases.
Another customer, Harashima Tsunetama, arrives. He orders superior nigirim chawan mushi and cola, a lot of gari and asks for the way to the bathroom.
Another customer, Munechika Tameshige, orders limited salt-grilled sanma.
Ashino Natsume, a regular customer, arrives soaked wet in rain. She orders her usual : highball, kaisen chiashi with a lot of salmon roe, wasabi and sea urchin.
Just when they are done having their supper, a woman, Hijirisawa Suzuyo, enters the restaurant banging the door aside. She rushes straight to the bathroom, and comes out with a pouch. She demands who kept it there. She explains about getting pickpocket on the train and having tracked the pouch through GPS and followed it.
She announces that the thief has her blood on their cuff, which was imparted while trying to grab them in the train. In response to which, all three of the customers show their cuffs, but none have any spots. She remarks that a 1 million yen betting ticket is stolen.
File 976 - The Stolen Big-Winning Betting Ticket
Hijirisawa recounts that she was on the train listening to the horse race on the radio. When she realised her betting ticket won, she exclaimed loudly to her friend next to her. Having heard her, the thief stole her pouch containing the ticket. She tried to grab the thief's sleeve, but only managed to get the blood from her injured finger on to it.
She checks each one's sleeve and finds all of them wet. She mentions that she carried the betting ticket in her uninjured hand and thus should be free of any blood traces.
Wakita challanges Kogoro in finding the thief first. Harashima tries to leave, saying he wants to watch his favourite show. Wakita remarks how he can afford the superior nigiri and not a recorder to record the show. This keeps him in check, and he returns back to his seat. Munechika wants to leave as well, as he gets a call from his wife. Wakita answers it with a lie, prolonging his stay. Munechika explains how he gets nervous infront of his wife's parents, whom he is supposed to meet later in a high class restaurant, and is not able to eat properly.
Ashino says she can tag along, but will leave soon, as she is the winning bidder at an auction and must hurry up home to follow it on her pc.
When Hijirisawa threatens to call the police, Wakita remarks it is not neccessary as he has seen through the case.
Wakita presents his deduction: he says the culprit utilized the ginger juices from the Gari to remove the bloodstains from his clothing and that therefore Tsunetaka Harashima, the customer who ordered a lot of Gari, is the culprit. Tsunetaka protests and empties his pockets, showing that he doesn't carry a betting ticket with him and advises the others to do the same. The pressure is too much for Ran and she reveals that Kogoro has a winning 10,000 Yen betting ticket with him that has a hundredfold payout of 1,000,000 Yen. She hands it over to Suzuyo and apologizes. Suzuyo takes a look at the ticket and says that this is not her ticket, since the one she had was a combination betting ticket worth 5,000 Yen, which has a two hundredfold payout, thus making it worth 1,000,000 Yen as well.
Conan knocks out Kogoro and reveals the true culprit, Tameshige Munechika. He used the daikon radish he ordered, which has the same protease as the ginger from the Gari in it, to remove the bloodstain on his sleeve. The reason he came to the restaurant was that he had to meet with his wife and her strict parents later, to which he couldn't come with blood on his sleeve, so he had to remove the blood with the daikon from the restaurant before the meeting. His reason for stealing the ticket were his financial problems: he married a woman from a wealthy family and her extravagant life-style and spendings drove him into debt, so he needed to shamefully ask her parents for financial help at their meeting, which is why he gave into the temptation of stealing the ticket, to avoid shaming himself before the parents of his wife. Tameshige than cancels his meeting with his wife and waits for the arrival of the police, who then take him to the station.
Wakita is happy with witnessing a great deduction from the Sleeping Kogoro and wants to become an apprentice of him. In exchange, Wakita offers prize cuts in the restaurant for Kogoro at every visit. Kogoro agrees. Later, Kogoro is convinced by Conan and Ran to give the ticket he accidentally picked up to a police station, since it is the right thing to do.
A golf player, Teigo Banno, and his girlfriend, Kurumi Iiyama, are having a fight outside his apartment. He wants to break up with her and move to Seattle, but she demands 100 million yen from him. They agree to discuss this later in the evening, and he promises to cook her favourite meal. When she is out of earshot, he mumbles about the meal being her last. Rumi Wakasa hears this and smiles.
The class of 1-B are rehearsing for the play, in which Conan plays the lead role, Ikkyu, who goes up against a tiger. After the rehearsal, they start cleaning up the place. Rumi carries a bucket of black water to refill it, but slips on a newspaper and ends up spilling it on the painting of a tiger, which was to be used in the play the next day. Having painted it herself, she promises to repaint it again at her house. She worries she won't be able to get the tiger's height to match Conan's, and thus invites the Detective Boys at her place.
Rumi lives in a condominium. While entering her room, they spot a effluent woman banging on the neighbouring door. Rumi remarks about not knowing the neighbours very well. After repainting the tiger, Rumi serves them omelete rice. While having the meal, they hear loud sounds from the neighbouring room. Genta rushes into the room to complain, followed by the others, and ends up coming across Teigo and Kurumi lying on the floor. Teigo wakes up from the commotion and is shocked to see Kurumi lying beside him, her head in a pool of blood. Conan explains Kurumi is dead, due to a blunt weapon having hit her head. Haibara points out to Teigo that the letters 'I love you' are written across his cheek in red. He picks up a photograph fallen beside him, which shows a white-skinned hand writing on his cheek when he had fallen unconscious.
