Continuity is a work in progress. This page is currently being edited. Please consider helping the users to complete the page and fill in the missing pieces if you are able.


Continuity is a concept in fiction used for directly referring to previous stories, establishing for them to be "in the past" of the current story containing the reference to it and thus strengthening the continuity between both or even creating one in the first place by connecting both plots. This is not the same as the Canon, even though establishing continuity helps define elements of the series that are part of the Canon. This can be done by means of a direct Continuity Nod or a Call-back.

The Manga, Anime, Movies, Games and other spin-off material aren't set in the same continuity despite sharing and adapting some of the same stories and influencing each other now and then in certain details. This is emphasized by the separation below.

Volume 1

Prologue + Company President's Daughter Case (Manga: 1-5)

  • File 1-5 are direct continuations of each other.

Bloody Idol Case (Manga: 6-9)

Volume 3

Monthly Presents Case (Manga: 26-29)

  • To Company President's Daughter Case (Manga: 2-5): When Ran Mouri thinks about all the times Conan Edogawa acted unusual, she remembers the moment from this case when he notified her father about the watchdogs of the Tani family.
  • To Bloody Idol Case (Manga: 6-9): When Ran thinks about all the times Conan acted unusual, she also remembers the moment from this case when he found out about the lighter in front of Yuko Ikezawa.
  • To Hatamoto Family Case (Manga: 20-25): Ran shows a letter by Natsue Hatamoto they got at the beginning of the case, referring to the Hatamoto family murders "last month", which Kogoro Mouri only barely remembers. The letter mainly tells about how Takeshi's and Natsue's life went on in the meantime. Later on, she thinks about all the times Conan acted unusual, including during that case.

Volume 4

Bullet-Train Bombing (Manga: 33-35)

  • To Prologue - Roller Coaster Murder Case (Manga: File 1): On the Shinkansen, Conan Edogawa thinks about the moment Gin and Vodka gave him the poison during the first chapter - shortly before encountering them on the train.

Code Sheet Case (Manga: 36-39)

  • To Bullet-Train Bombing (Manga: 33-35): At Tokyo Tower, Ran Mouri refers to the moment Conan Edogawa wanted to admit something to her on the Shinkansen during that case and asks him what it was.

Volume 5

Lex Vocalist Murder Case (Manga: 45-48)

  • To Bandaged Man Case (Manga: 40-44): Ran Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki are talking about the previous case again, with it being implicitely at least one week ago, since Sonoko's sister Ayako has been bedridden "for a week" after that.

Conan Kidnapping Case (Manga: 49-51)

  • To Roller Coaster Murder Case (Manga: 1): Conan Edogawa briefly thinks about the moment Gin and Vodka were poisoning him in File 1 when getting confronted by Fumiyo Edogawa.
  • To Company President's Daughter Case (Manga: 2-5): Ran Mouri indirectly refers to File 2 when she asks Conan about his parents, since it's been "a long time" since they went overseas and left him in Japan, according to his backstory he gave back then.
  • To Lex Vocalist Murder Case (Manga: 45-48): Conan suspects that the organization may have found out about him because he appeared as Shinichi Kudo to solve this case.

  • To Detective Conan, When Objects Collide (Manga: 800): When Rei Furuya remembers the things he experienced with his Mazda FD RX-7, one of them is the moment from File 800 he grabbed Ran Mouri next to him before making a sharp turn to stop Takayo Tegawa's car.
  • To Detective Conan, The Darkest Nightmare (Movie: 20): Rei also remembers the crash he caused in that movie with his RX-7.

  • To Kid and Conan’s Ryoma Treasure Illusion (MK1412 Episode 11): Kaito Kuroba remembers his appearance as Kaitou Kid in the museum, spitting fire, from that episode during his flashback montage.
  • To Kid Vs Conan, Miraculous Midair Walk (MK1412 Episode 16): Kaito Kuroba remembers his walk in the air as Kid from that episode during his flashback montage.
  • To Kid vs Conan: Teleportation Under the Moonlight (MK1412 Episode 21): Kaito Kuroba remembers him as Kid appearing on the roof of the building above the crossing in Kinza after seemginly "teleporting" from that episode during his flashback montage.

  • Chapter 1-2 are direct continuations of each other.

What's "School"? (Yaiba Manga: 3)

  • Chapter 3 seems to begin the morning right after Yaiba Kurogane's arrival in Japan in Chapter 1-2.
  • To You'll Be Taking Care of Me (Yaiba Manga: 2): Yaiba Kurogane tries to lure Mr. Sudo into a trap by turning his back to him, just like he did with Muto during the second chapter, which Sayaka Mine also notices.

Lots of Samurai + No Need For Mercy (Yaiba Manga: 4-5)

  • Chapter 4 and 5 are direct continuations of each other.
  • To What's "School"? (Yaiba Manga: 3): Chapter 4 and 5 happen on the same school day as Chapter 3.

Stupid Onimaru (Yaiba Manga: 6)

  • Chapter 6 is implicitely set the day after the previous chapter.

I'll Be Your Opponent + Great Clash (Yaiba Manga: 7-8)

  • Chapter 7 and 8 are direct continuations of each other and seem to be set on the day right after Chapter 6.

  • Chapter 9 is implicitely set the day after the previous two chapters.

Resurrected Wind God (Yaiba Manga: 10)

  • To Training! (Yaiba Manga: 9): Chapter 10 is a direct continuation of the last chapter of the first volume.
  • This chapter happens over the course of 7 days, ending on the morning of Takeshi Onimaru's transformation into an Oni.

Onimaru's Great Transformation/The Other Demon Sword (Yaiba Manga: 11-12)

  • Chapter 9 and 10 are direct continuations of each other.
  • Chapter 9 seems to implicitely be set on the same morning Chapter 8 ended.
