Contents
Background
Twenty years ago, when Midori was 18 years old, a serial hit-and-runner was stalking the streets, randomly targeting high school girls wearing long skirts, due to the harassment by a girl gang he had suffered under: the girls had been wearing long skirts as well, as a part of their rebellious looks. Midori was also a member of a girl gang, and her best friend ended up the first fatality. When the culprit had not been caught after a while, she decided to help apprehend the killer and volunteered to act as bait. There was an apparent shortage of police to help her at the time, and Midori was extremely stubborn and insisted to be alone due to her resentment toward the police. Under orders of Commisioner Matsumoto, she was teamed up with Juzo Megure, then still a junior police officer.
Unfortunately, the car runner surprised and hit them, injuring them both. Fortunately, Juzo was able to remember the car's license plate number, and the perpetrator was soon arrested. Midori recovered with only a scar on her forehead to show for her ordeal. Some time afterwards she married Juzo out of gratitude. In a strange switch of role, she is perhaps the only person who has managed to temper his impulsive surges, a role her husband feels a bit bashful about.
Midori has also appeared, in an unseen role, as a witness to a crime and had to be taken to the station for questioning, as well as making a cameo appearance during the White Day murder case. She was also mentioned to have volunteered to be a hostage at a bank robbery, where she got injured.
Personality
In her youth, Midori was quite headstrong and vindictive, even wild in behavior. Juzo's memories about the case where they met have her calling the police useless for not catching her friend's murderer, then cockily saying she's a good decoy, and then only admitting she chewed on more than she could swallow after being almost killed by the same culprit. It's hinted but not directly stated that Midori was a sukeban or girl delinquent in these times, hence why she was so determined to catch the man who killed her friend and other girls of the same subculture.
Since her near-death accident and her marriage to Juzo, Midori has mellowed considerably and has evolved into a loving wife - perhaps this is the main reason why Juzo keeps his head and the scar he shares with Midori always covered up, so no one will learn about her past. However, she still retains a younger girl's personality, as evidenced when she was upset enough to get drunk when she thought Megure didn't get her anything for White Day and how happy she was when she found her present.
And judging by her choice to volunteered herself as a hostage shows that she is willing to risk herself for other's safety.

Plot overview
Treadmill Murder Case (Manga: 208-210, Anime: 146-147)
During a bank robbery in Haido Branch, the manager's wife was taken hostage. Since she fiercely fought against the perpetrator, also present in the bank, Midori offered as a new hostage and was thus easily injured. This motivated her husband to do more to investigate the case and arrest the robbers.
Girl Clubbing Case (Manga: 284-286, Anime: 217-218)
White Day Murder Case (Manga: 725-727, Anime: 608-609)
On White Day, Midori argues with her husband in the morning for not giving her a present. For this reason, she does not put him a packed lunch for work exceptionally.
After attending the night of the murder on the evening of the same day, Megure decides to call his wife. She is drunk because she believes that the Inspector's cases are more important than his wife. He refers her to a compartment next to the fridge, where he deposited a present for Midori. He did not want to give it to her until he got home, but he gives it over by phone, because he could take a while. He also asks his wife to cook something for him.
