Unmei no Roulette Mawashite is a single by Japanese rock band ZARD that was released on September 17, 1998. The titular song is the 4th opening of the anime and is used as insert song in Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small. The song became a big hit for the band, and peaked at #1 on the Oricon sales charts. The B-side of the single, Shōjo no Koro ni Modotta Mitai ni, was used as the ending theme for the second movie, The Fourteenth Target.

A music box version of "Unmei no Roulette Mawashite" appears on the ZARD CD "ZARD ~Memorial~: Orgel Sound Collection" released in 2009.

The single was later re-released in new CD format on February 10, 2020.

International version

Starting from this opening, the album version of the instrumental is used for all international dubs.

FUNimation version

FUNimation did not adapt this particular opening song for their English release of the show. Although the uncut Japanese version appears on their DVDs the song doesn't sync up quite right with the animation. The version used on the FUNi releases is not as up beat as the original version. This is most likely because FUNimation did not receive the licensing rights to the specific cut of the song that was used for the original version of the show, so they used the album cut instead.

Trivia

• There are three version of opening song used. The first version is only used in episode 97. In the version used since episode 98, the song has different strength of guitar and piano compared to the first version. In the final version used since episode 113, the song arrangement is simlar to the full song.
• The international version of some episodes use incorrect episode clips in Conan's opening speech.
• Except The Famous Potter Murder Case, The Memories of First Love Case , The Historical Actor Murder Case, and The Mysterious Mansion of a Band of Thieves Case, when there's a second and/or third parts of the case, the opening animation consists of footage from the previous episode instead.
• In the combined popularity poll for openings and endings, hosted by YTV in honor of the 1000th episode, this song ranked 5th.
• The song is featured in sponsor card of Episode "ZERO" The Shinichi Kudo Aquarium Case‎‎ as memorable theme song chosen by Gosho Aoyama.
