The Cosplay Rider of the Wind (旋風のコスプレライダー ,Senpū no Kosupure Raidā) is the 1197th episode of the Detective Conan anime. This episode is a pre-story for Fallen Angel of the Highway.

Situation

Over the past month, there have been four purse-snatching incidents caused by a pair of thieves on a motorcycle. Most notably, the most recent incident involved a large sum of money being stolen.

Serial purse-snatching

Time: Throughout the month

Culprit: Two thieves in a motorcycle

In the past month, there have been four purse-snatching incident caused by a pair of thieves in a motorcycle.

As Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys are talking to Kamen Yaiba cosplayer Takeshi Fujimiya, a purse-snatching incident occurs nearby.

Attempted robbery

Location: A park near a construction site

Time: Between 7 AM and 9 AM

Target: A purse containing pamphlets

Culprit: A thief on their motorcycle

Later, Fujimiya suspects that this attempted purse-snatching is not caused by the duo responsible for the serial purse-snatching.

The thief attempts to flee from the crime scene after his attempt fails, only to be followed by Conan riding his skateboard, and Kamen Yaiba riding a bicycle that he happens to see. The thief is able to escape thanks to the road that is still under construction, which Conan and Kamen Yaiba have close to no knowledge of.

Takagi and Sato, after seeing the pursuit being followed by the four kids and the man that almost got his purse stolen, whose identity is revealed to be a salesman Hideo Saida, interrogate the five as their usual drill.

Later, Conan and Fujimiya come to give information after the failed pursuit. Fujimiya is a night shift security guard that stops by the park to do his training after his shift is over. In addition, he confirms to Conan that he has been training from every 7 AM to 9 AM for four consecutive days.

Conan then asks Takagi about details of the fourth purse-snatcher. Takagi recounted: Around 10 AM five days ago, just as the old lady was carrying a bag containing three million yen that she earned from selling artwork to the bank, two thieves on a motorcycle snatched the money from her, causing her to fall to the ground. The police pursued the thieves, but lost their trail in a park that happens to be near a construction site, and the vehicle was left in a bush in that park.

Purse-snatching (past)

Location: A busy street leading to the station

Victim: An old woman

Time: Around 10 AM, 5 days ago

Property stolen: A purse containing three million yen

Culprit: Two thieves in a motorcycle

Note: This is the fourth incident of the aforementioned serial purse-snatching. The woman's back was injured following the snatching, and she still in the hospital for treatment.

Takagi and Sato also confirm that due to noise complaints from the neighbors, the construction only starts from 9 AM, while the park does not allow anyone to enter from 7 PM to 7 AM of the next day. If someone were to enter within the restricted time, they would be caught by either a security guard, or some cameras working at night.

It is revealed that Hideo Saida and Kenji Kuroi staged the robbery in the morning.

In the fourth purse-snatching, they had difficulties in running away from the police, so they hid the stolen three million yen in a park and abandoned the vehicle. However, when they returned to retrieve the bag the next day, they saw Takeshi Fujimiya in his Kamen Yaiba costume doing some training from 7 AM to 9 AM. The fact that there is always an obstacle no matter what time of the day do they come makes them come up with a plan to distract the cosplayer, whom they assumed to be the easiest target to distract, as:

• The construction site can not be disrupted in a way that causes no attention.
• The thieves couldn’t just destroy the camera and do it at night, as they weren’t sure if anyone was controlling the cameras.
