Yaiba (剣勇伝説YAIBA 未公開パイロット ,Kenyū Densetsu Yaiba Mikōkai Pairotto^?) is a pilot OVA that was released in 1991, two years before Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba was released. With a running length of 13 minutes, it was originally released for the magazine Weekly Shōnen Sunday, in which Yaiba was serialized. It was re-released in 2004 alongside the Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba DVD box set^[1],^[2].

This is the first animated media based off on Gosho Aoyama's works.
At the instant noodles cup that was accidentally left by Yaiba and his co. is written "Yaib-", possibly referring to the title Yaiba.
