Tottori Sand Dunes Mystery Tour (Anime: 801-802)
When Kogoro, Ran and Conan stroll around Kurayoshi in the late evening, they see a police car zooming by with flashing sirens, before stopping in front of a lavish mansion. Yamane and Okamoto just received a call from Shuko Kumado, who reported a robbery at the house. When exiting the car, Yamane recognizes Kogoro and decides to let him help him with the robbery investigation. He introduces the famous detective to Okamoto, who is then instructed to first go into the house. Inside, they untie the captive Shuko. Later, Okamoto, Kogoro and Yamane interrogate the suspects and gather information to find the culprit behind the robbery. After learning about the existence of a new suspect in the person of Naomi Senda, Yamane and Okamoto come fetch her and bring her to the Kumado Residence to interrogate her with the rest of the involved people. Despite there being high tension between the Kumados and Senda, Yamane and Okamoto do little to defuse the situation, and Kogoro takes the lead, which hints towards Yamane and Okamoto still lacking long-term experience in tough cases.
Later, the stolen item is returned, which surprises everyone, including Yamane and Okamoto. The two detectives convene with Kogoro to try to dig more information on the suspects and later meet at a local restaurant to discuss the suspects' alibis. They are left stumped when they realize every suspect has an alibi. Later, during Kogoro's deduction, a fictional sequence featuring Yamane and Okamoto comforting the culprit is shown. At the end, the true culprit is arrested at the sand dunes and Okamoto sheepishly leads a belligerent Naomi Senda towards the police car.
The Lover Who Vanished on Pont Koitani (Anime: 1190-1191)
This time, Yamane and Okamoto do not meet Kogoro because of a case, but instead because they happen to stay at the same inn in Misasa Onsen. Yamane and Okamoto recently caught a serial robber and rewarded themselves with a stay at the hot springs. Kogoro enjoys the late-night dinner with them, teaching them about how to solve cases, while they eagerly listen. The next day, when one of the inn's employees goes missing, Kogoro directs both of them to help with the search and Okamoto is dispatched to get backup at the Misasa substation. Okamoto quickly finds Toshihiro Kitami, a suspicious man lurking near Koitani Bridge, and brings him to the inn with a fellow officer. Later, they start searching for the missing person across the prefecture, including at Daisen-ji, a temple at the foothills of Mount Daisen. Kogoro, Conan and Ran convene to meet with the two detectives at Tottori Station and Kogoro exposes his reasoning. Afterwards, they head back to Kurayoshi where they corner Yasuto Utsubuki, the missing person's boyfriend and force him to reveal that he had planned a fake disappearance with her.
When they head back to the place the missing person is hiding, they do not find her. Okamoto and Conan find a pink-colored piece of paper, which he keeps as evidence. Going back to the inn to reveal the truth about the hoax, they realize that Sachiyo Yumemiya, the victim, was kidnapped for real this time as they receive a recorded ransom video from the kidnapper. Yamane and Okamoto then coordinate prefecture-wide roadblocks in hopes of stopping the kidnapper. Following this revelation that the culprit is probably among the people at the inn, Kogoro and the two detectives interrogate the suspects for their alibis. They later listen to the recordings from the ransom messages along with the forensics team. After Kazuko Yumemiya, the inn's manager, accepts to give the ransom money, Yamane and Okamoto coordinate with the bank to gather said money. Okamoto listens to the recordings and along with the forensics officer, detects the sound of waves. The suspicious sound from the recording allows Conan to figure out the truth.
At night, everyone gathers to arrest the culprit at Hakuto Beach, where Sachiyo is being held, and Yasuto, Yamane and Okamoto tackle down the culprit and restrain them. Kogoro quickly breaks down the culprit's modus operandi and how they kidnapped Sachiyo. However, when they are about to be brought into the police car, Kogoro is knocked out by Conan, to reveal the one behind everything. The real mastermind, once revealed, takes Sachiyo hostage and runs to the shore, and Yamane and Okamoto run after them. After Conan knocks out the weapon from the culprit's hand with his power shoes, the culprit is apprehended and Okamoto leads them away.
Relationship analysis
Kogoro Mouri
Okamoto has never met Kogoro Mouri before the Kumado family case, but heard about him many times from Yamane. At first, he does not seem particularly interested by Kogoro, but as the case progresses, he becomes a loyal disciple of the detective. Their camaraderie persists, as when they meet again at the traditional Yumemiya Inn, they all join Kogoro in a late-night dinner fueled with alcohol and religiously listen to him talk about how to be a detective.
Ryo Okamoto
Depiste their 10-year age gap, Yamane and Okamoto are inseparable sidekicks, working together at all times and even answering in sync. However, Yamane being the superior, Okamoto listens to his orders without hesitation, which shows that he trusts his superior.

- He is the first police detective from Tottori Prefecture to appear, although Tokyo MPD detective Chosuke Takagi was sent to Tottori in file 450, but it is unknown if he is still in Tottori in the current timeline.
