Kawanaka (川中 Kawanaka?), commonly referred to as Detective Kawanaka (川中刑事 Takano-keiji?), is a character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan.

Background

Kawanaka is a young detective (刑事 keiji?) in plain clothes from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, Division One Investigations. He loves Sato and is thus jealous of Takagi, much often to boycott their dates along with several other officers. He is always scared by Matsumoto.

He meets Conan in several cases and his great deduction impresses him only during Takagi's kidnapping, but Conan justifies himself saying which, when he consulted Shinichi earlier on the phone, that's what he told him.[1] In the end, along with Haibara, Conan shows to the police the trick used by the culprit, even if he making them to believe that is Agasa to find the evidence.[2]

He is identical to Kogoro, when he was younger and hadn't mustache yet.

  • In the ending credits from Yellow Alibi, the two Japanese ideograms who formed his surname are inverted like Nakagawa (中川 Nakagawa?).
