French logo of the Yaiba series.

The French version of the Yaiba manga was published in France by Soleil Manga, a division of Soleil Productions, contrary to the French translation of the main series, done by Kana. In the beginning of 2006, Soleil Manga announced its intention to publish the series and the first volume was published on January 15th. The first five volumes were published at a regular pace of one volume per month, before the intervals were incremented to one every two or three months. After the publishing of volume 15 in December 2007, releases were put on a hiatus and volume 16 was released in October 2008, resuming releases at a slowed paced of one volume every four to six months. Prices were raised to 6,95 euros in January 2009, with the release of volume 17. Following the release of volume 21 in July 2010, publishing went on a second hiatus, but the publishing house confirmed that the last three volumes will still be published sometime in the future. Volume 22 was finally released in November 2011. In 2012, the editor announced the release of the last 2 volumes of the series in Q1 and Q4 respectively. The series was fully published in September 2012 with the release of volume 24. Prices for volumes 23 and 24 were also adjusted to 6,99. Prices for the original volumes were raised in Q3 2023 to 7,29 euros.

In January 2025, following the May 2024 announcement of a reboot of Yaiba to air in mid-2025, Soleil confirmed the publishing of a new version of the original manga series to start in May 2025. The new version combines two volumes in one that will thus be completed with the release of twelve volumes.

It is translated by Thibaud Desbief and licensed by The Kashima Agency, and distributed by Hachette Éditions. It is printed by Aubin Imprimeur. The translation follows closely the Japanese original version and the covers as well, reprising the style and font of the 2004 reissued Japanese volumes. Some jokes were localized to the French readers, including the pun in chapter 74's title. Read more...

Kogoro pretending to be Hercule Poirot.

Kogoro Mouri (毛利 小五郎 Mōri Kogorō?), known as Richard Moore in the FUNimation dub, is a main protagonist of the Detective Conan manga and anime. He is a private detective and Ran Mouri's father. Once a former police detective in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, he retired a few years prior to the timeline to become a full-time private investigator, opening Mouri Detective Agency in Beika Town, which doubles as the Mouri family's home. He currently raises his daughter as a single father, after becoming estranged from his wife Eri Kisaki, a first-class lawyer. While struggling to maintain his agency successful, he reluctantly takes in a shrunken Shinichi Kudo, who presents himself as Conan Edogawa, after Ran's insistence. Conan's presence in the household would however prove useful, as Conan uses his Stun-Gun Wristwatch to solve many cases using Kogoro's voice. He thus becomes famous as the "sleeping Kogoro" and is regularly relied upon by the police whenever there is a case they cannot crack. While Kogoro is a skillful martial artist and marksman, he is, on the other hand, a heavy smoker and a drunkard, and is known for flirting with other women while still being married. His lazy character makes many doubt his actual investigative abilities, but when his close relatives are the ones at stake, he can manage to solve tough cases by himself. Read more...

Kaitou Kid in his signature white outfit.

Kaitou Kid (怪盗キッド Kaitō Kiddo?, lit. Phantom Thief Kid) is the secret identity of the main character in the manga and anime franchise Magic Kaito, and a recurring character in the manga and anime franchise Detective Conan. A so-called "gentleman thief" known for issuing advance notices prior to his heists and never having fired a gun while operating, he first appeared eighteen years ago in Paris, coinciding with the retirement of another renowned thief, the Phantom Lady. Wearing a white dress suit flunked with white gloves, a top hat, and a monocle, he makes flashy entrances using his Hang Glider Cape. The identity was first assumed by world-class magician Toichi Kuroba, who quickly made the phantom thief famous for the unbelievable jewel heists he could pull off. Ten years prior to the timeline, Kaitou Kid stopped being active after Toichi was seemingly killed during a stage show by a mysterious criminal organization, who saw him as being in the way of their quest to find Pandora, a gem said to grant immortality. After Toichi's assistant Konosuke Jii briefly assumed the role, Kaitou Kid is currently embodied by high-school student Kaito Kuroba, the son of Toichi. Determined to find the truth behind his father's death, Kaito has brought the name of Kaitou Kid to new levels of fame across the world. Kaitou Kid's current arch-nemeses are the private sleuths Conan Edogawa and Saguru Hakuba, along with "almost successful" police inspector Ginzo Nakamori. Read more...

Conan faces the enigmatic "Night Baron".

Night Baron Murder Case (闇の男爵(ナイトバロン)殺人事件 Naito Baron Satsujin Jiken?) is the 68th, 69th, and 70th episode of the Detective Conan anime. The first three-episode case of the series, it follows Conan, Ran and Kogoro to the idyllic beach resort of Izu, having received hotel tickets from professor Agasa. However, the trip quickly turns into an open-air mystery, as the tickets were only half-paid for, and the payout to the remaining part is only received if one solves a mystery tour organized by a mysterious person nicknamed the "Night Baron", a costumed thief turned murderer from Yusaku Kudo's best selling novel series. As Conan nears the truth, he is sabotaged by Night Baron. Later, one of the tour participants is killed while wearing the Night Baron costume. While everyone suspects it to be an accident, Conan knows there is more to it, and that Night Baron is not just a reference to the novel character. Adapted from volume 8 by Masato Sato, it is animated by Keiko Sasaki, Akio Kawamura and Izumi Shimura, who would later become veterans of the animation team. The plot is praised for its well-thought-out tricks and for its traditional murder-mystery-styled investigation, and cements itself as one of the masterpieces of Gosho Aoyama's early work.
