Foiled Kidnapping Transaction Case (Manga: 1123-1125, Anime: 1184-1185)
While trying to coordinate the rescue of kidnapped Shiori Ishigami, he sets up a ransom exchange with his men at Haido Park. Unbeknownst to him, detectives Sato and Takagi were on stakeout there and accidentally made the kidnapper, who was trying to retrieve the briefcase filled with the ransom money, get away. Hatori orders them to chase after the kidnapper, as they were already in their car, and foiled his plan.
Later, per Conan's deduction, Hatori and two assistants head inside the Ishigami residence and corner the kidnapper's accomplice, who was the housekeeper all along. His assistants manage to find Shiori in the house's attic and later arrest the housekeeper.
Name origin
His name comes from "bat planes" (コウモリ飛行機), a type of origami paper plane that flies like a bird and is shaped like a bat, since his name contains the kanji for bird ("鳥") and wings ("羽"). The "bat plane" was one of the clues to solve the case[3].
Trivia
He is the first member of the SIT to appear in the manga, even though Kenzo Katsuragi, another inspector for the SIT, appeared before in the anime-original case Rainbow Color Kidnapping along with other members.
