Kid vs. Komei: The Targeted Lips (キッドvs高明狙われた唇 ,Kiddo Bāsasu Kōmei Nerawareta Kuchibiru^?) is the 983rd and 984th episode of the Detective Conan anime.

Part 1

Heiji and Kazuha are invited by Kogoro, Ran and Conan to Jirokichi's Suzuki Museum to witness the world's largest conch pearl, the Fairy's Lip. Once again, they meet inspector Nakamori who reveals that once again, Kaitou Kid plans to steal it, but there is another law enforcer, inspector Morofushi from Nagano's prefectural police. He reveals that he went to Tokyo to retrieve something that was adressed to him and that he was curious, so he assisted Nakamori's investigation. Naeji Torigoe, the Fairy's Lip's current owner, shows up and tells Jirokichi that if the jewel was to be stolen, he had to pay him back generously, with a large smirk. At the same time, Moena Yamamoto, a company employee, is able to break through security and asks Torigoe to give the jewel back, because it actually belonged to her grandfather who received it after successfully operating a rich caribbean businessman decades ago. Torigoe shoves her away and sees that he discovered it in Mie Prefecture's Ago bay just a few years ago. After listening to their conversation, Kaitou Kid, disguised as a riot squad member, decides to act and makes inspector Nakamori walk on one of his cards stuck on the floor, saying that he will steal the jewel tonight. Will he succeed?

The Fairy's Lip is the world's largest conch pearl, mounted on a silver ring. Its colors are fruitful and shiny, making it hard to miss.

Part 2

Kaitou Kid disguises as Kazuha to steal the Fairy Lip. Meanwhile Heiji wants to confess his feelings to Kazuha (who in fact is Kid in disguise). Will they succeed in their missions?

Kid disguised as Kazuha enters in the room by making a excuse to take his phone and a black fog covers and left a drill hole in the middle with many fake Fairy's Lip. It is decided that Kid has stolen and the guards turns off the Air Conditioner which melts the ice.

Conan and Inspector Taka'aki then discovers that Kid is disguised as Kazuha.

While everyone are resting in the library, Kid (as Kazuha) sneaks out to check the ice which already melted to center and asks a guard that he want to search something. He picks the Fairy's Lip, but suddenly cornered by the team of officers and guards. It is revealed that they wanted to catch Kid in action.

However, Kid escapes and returns the Fairy's Lip to its true owner Moena Yamamoto and tells the story of how her grandfather was given the Fairy's Lip.

It is also revealed by Heiji that Torigoe is a fake owner and got him arrested, since he lied about the location of the pearl's kind. He probably read online the story of how the owner's grandfather got the pearl from a billionaire in gratitude for helping his wife giving birth safely, and decided to swindle the pearl from the owner. Even though Heiji wasn't able to identify the fake Kazuha until the end, when asked by the real one, he says that he did realize that since the duplicate didn't have seaweed stuck in her mouth.

Aftermath

After the case is solved, Taka'aki meets up with Sato and Takagi to receive the envelope adressed to him, which is found in Wataru Date locker. Inside is a broken cellphone with a hole on it. It is revealed that Scotch's real name is Hiromitsu Morofushi, and that he is Taka'aki's younger brother. He, along with Wataru Date, Kenji Hagiwara, Jinpei Matsuda, and Rei Furuya used to attend the police academy together. Taka'aki receives his brother's broken cellphone and realizes that Hiromitsu has been working for the Public Security Bureau and died while undercover. Taka'aki then recalls a time, where he talked to his brother and where the latter told him about his friend, who was nicknamed "Zero".

Trivia

Episode 984 is the last episode where Kosei Tomita voices Jirokichi Suzuki, because he passed away after a stroke on September 27, 2020. The episode was scheduled to be released on that day, but was postponed to mourn his death.
