Sudo in his early days as character designer.

Masatomo Sudo (須藤 昌朋 ,Sudō Masatomo), born January 28, 1961, in Hokkaido, is a Japanese anime director, and character designer. He is best known for designing characters for the anime series Detective Conan and for his involvement with the anime series Lupin III. He is the character designer for the Detective Conan anime series since its inception in 1996, except for a short period of four years from episodes 356 to 504, where the work was done by Mari Tominaga. He also works as character designer and chief animation director for the movies. Later, he also worked as character design supervisor for Zero's Tea Time anime. Active since 1980, he landed irregular animation jobs for various series before being animation director for the first time in 1994. Shortly after, his career expanded, and he joined the Detective Conan production team. While still being the character designer for the series, he worked with other television animation projects in the 2000s, including Hamtaro, Angel Heart and Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple. Beautiful Fins (美しい鰭 ,Utsukushii Hire) is a song by rock band Spitz that was released on April 10, 2023 as digital single and on April 12, 2023 as CD single. The song is featured as the ending theme for the 26th movie, Black Iron Submarine. With Masamune Kusano as voice and guitar, Tetsuya Miwa as second guitar, Akihiro Tamura as bass and Tatsuo Sakiyama as drums, it was written and composed by Kusano and arranged by the band and Seiji Kameda as their 46th single. The digital single peaked at 3rd position on the weekly Oricon Chart, while the regular version peaked at 4th.

Detective Conan

• NEW! Additional information has been released about the 29th movie of Detective Conan, Detective Conan: Fallen Angel of the Highway. These include guest voice actors, the movie poster, 90-second trailer, and theme song. Directed by Takahiro Hasui and scripted by Takahiro Okura, it is set to release in Japan on April 10, 2026.
• NEW! Starting March 14, 2026, Akemi Okamura will temporarily replace Wakana Yamazaki as the voice of Ran Mouri due to Wakana's hiatus in taking care of her health.
• 3 special episodes have been announced as part of a project commemorating the 30th anniversary of the anime. They include a collaborative episode with Japan International Birdman Rally written by Takahiro Okura, a J-League collaboration episode, and a 2-hour special episode Murder Case No. 30 written by Takeharu Sakurai.
• A new English dub of Detective Conan with selected episodes, including some never shown in the U.S. before, has been released on Crunchyroll and Netflix. The latest selection is titled Rivals of the Great Detective.
• The latest Detective Conan planetarium special movie, titled The Shining Payload, premiered on March 8, 2025. Screenplay by Akatsuki Yamatoya and direction by Hiroaki Takagi; it is currently screening in some planetariums in Japan.
