The chief priest of the temple agrees to let them stay until the rain stops, and asks his two monks to welcome the guests. The girls and Conan reside in a room while waiting for Kogoro and Heiji to dry themselves out because they have no proper space for Kazuha’s umbrella. Kogoro then goes to the restroom but hasn’t returned since, which gets everyone worried. Suddenly, a scream is heard outside the room when everyone is in, so they go out to check and see the spirit flames walking to the top of the stairs. At the top of the stairs is the whereabouts of the missing monk, who was rumoured to be devoured by the crimson skeleton earlier.

Legend says that the crimson skeleton appears after the will-o’-the-wisp to devour the soul of wrongdoers and leave empty corpses. Meanwhile, it is confirmed that the crimson skeleton hasn’t devoured Kogoro for his… wrongdoings… yet, he must inform either Ran or Conan about his current situation while being bound and gagged.

|summary=Just as when Ran is desperate on the fact that her father could have been captured by the Crimson Skeleton, Conan and Heiji gather everyone and begin their deduction, revealing the culprit of the cases. One thing that we don’t know is the two detectives had already found and untied Kogoro, who is then seen waiting for the culprit and taking him down instantly with his Judo. The case is over and Heiji and Kazuha decide to go home.
|summary=Conan and Heiji discover how Heiji’s amulet disappeared when he and Kogoro retrieved their shirts and then reappeared at the confessional, where the missing monk is found dead instead of being eaten by the crimson skeleton, and go to the confessional room once again. There, they free Kogoro from being tied and take some items along to denounce the culprit. The case ends right at dusk, where Ran takes Heiji to Kazuha so he can confess his feelings to Kazuha. However, he proposes that the duo should go home instead of doing what Ran was trying to help him to.
