List of differences between releases of the anime

This page is for documenting the differences between the initial TV airings of the Detective Conan anime, and its subsequent releases. Including the international version given to distributors outside Japan, and the new remastered version used on selected streaming services, such as Netflix and Crunchyroll.
International version
TMS Entertainment, the company that produced the original anime, also made a version of the anime meant for official distributions outside Japan. This release was commonly dubbed as the "international version", as it was used for airings on TVs, physical home video release, and digital streaming services throughout the world. Excluding certain regions, such as South Korea.
General differences
- The Japanese anime logo were replaced by an English logo made by TMS. Originally, it was an original logo made for this release. But later episodes would feature the English texts "Detective Conan" that this release would use in place of the Japanese logo.
- Likewises, when the anime was distributed by Funimation under the Case Closed branding. The Japanese logo was replaced by the Case Closed logo.

English logo from Opening 8, used throughout the releases
- The opening animation did not contain staff credits. Instead a selection of main staffs were credited in English during the ending animation. These credits stay the same in all episodes, thus it does not represent the actual staffs credited for each episodes. With the only change between them is the name of TMS Entertainment getting updated on the copyright credit at the end.
- These credits were also included in the Case Closed releases under the "Original Japanese Version" credits.
- The music used for the opening animation tend to be using the album version instead. On top of it, the music between the opening narration and the opening animation were often not connected but instead cut from two different points of the music, leading to certain songs included a small gap or became out of sync compared to the Japanese version.
- This also affected the Case Closed releases, in which the first opening song was re-recorded with a much longer opening verse, to match with how it was sounded on the international version.
- The recap footage in the ending animation does not change between each episodes. Instead, footage from one episode was picked as the the default footage for all episodes it was used.
- For the speical episodes, the same recap footage was used throughout every parts. And because of the fact the recap would have scenes from the entire special. This would contain spoilers for future parts when watching a part 1 of the special.
- Early on in the series, the opening animation for a second part of a case would be entirely consists of footages from the first part. (i.e. the second part of Luxury Liner Serial Murder Case) The international version used the standard opening animation instead.
- All special episodes (refer to episodes that aired for more than 30 minutes) were split into multiple parts, up to 30 minutes each. For instance, Moonlight Sonata Murder Case were split into two parts. Thus it will count as two episodes by this release. (as episode 11 and 12)
- This indirectly create an effect where, as more specials were released over the years, the wider the gap between the Japanese episode numbers and international episode numbers are.
- If the next episode is a special, the preview for that episode won't be included. Likewises, the last part of the special episode will not included preview for the next episode.
- Later on, if the next episode is a special, the preview will featured the next episode after the special episode instead. (i.e. at the end of Loan Company President's Murder Case will contain a preview of Distinguished Family's Consecutive Accidental Death Case (Part 1) instead of Conan vs. Kaitou Kid.)
- However, this appears to be inconsistent. As the end of Kogoro's Date Murder Case did contain the preview for The Cornered Famous Detective! Two Big Murder Cases, while the last part of the latter did not contain a preview for the next episode. (which is The Farewell Wine Murder Case)
- Next Conan's Hint and Joke Card were removed from all episodes. According to the Thai releases, these were first included in episode 1029. However, there might be a difference on which episode was the first to included them depending on the region. (For instance, when Crunchyroll got the licenses for streaming release in North America. The episode included both Next Conan's Hint and Joke Card from the start)
Most of the listed differences exists up until episode 805. As it appears TMS has stopped providing the international version by that point, instead using the Japanese version since episode 806 onwards.
Specific Differences
- On certain opening songs, (Mune ga Dokidoki and Nazo, specifically) the music would restart after the opening narration has ended. Thus, these songs will ended before it was supposed to be, when compared to the Japanese version.
- Certain ending songs would also end up using the album version, which can cause the music to end before it was supposed to be, compared to the Japanese version.
- Certain opening and ending songs were excluded from this release, along with the animation for those songs. This included Feel Your Heart, Meikyū no Lovers, Girigiri chop, Overture, and Ashita o Yume Mite. These were replaced by the previous opening/ending song and animation. For instance, Feel Your Heart was replaced by Mune ga Dokidoki.
- Certain episodes, such as the last part of The Naniwa Serial Murder Case and The Girl from the Black Organization and the University Professor Murder Case, have its post-credit scenes cut from the release.
- Early widescreen episodes were edited to fit in the 4:3 aspect ratio.
Remastered version
TMS has been working on a remastered version of the anime for many years, with the first airing of a remastered version happened on September 22, 2003. In 2021, a new remastered version of the anime was released on Netflix in Japan. This would be the basis of future streaming releases and remaster airings going forward.
General differences
- The opening/ending made with traditional animation have its credits reinserted digitally. However, as it was based on the original TV airings, all the credits changes present on Japanese DVDs were not kept.
- As for the opening/endings made with digital animation, (i.e. Opening 11 and Ending 15 onward) they were simply upscaled from existing sources with the credited hard-coded in.
Specific Differences
- In A Ghost Ship Murder Case (Part 1), the scene of the armored spirit showing the head of a man was in full display. Compared to the original airing and DVD releases where the head was not in view. The original airings of this scene was likely altered due to its depiction of disembodiment.
- It appears that episode 257-283 have been re-composited. As when compared to the original TV airings or Japanese DVDs, several scenes became much more zoomed out, a different transition was utilized, and other small adjustment has been made.
South Korean airings
Due to the regulations, Japanese contents aired on South Korea had to altered to removes all appearances of Japanese texts.
