  1. I got that much, but I am objecting to the focus on only the cute women (and not specific ones) rather than all the culprits who cried tears of remorse generally. Specific cute women might be genuinely remorseful and unlikely to commit crimes again, but there are a few like the one who framed Shiratori who were completely unrepentant despite the tears.
  2. The Yakuza have gone downhill in Japan the last decade+. They are much less accepted now than they were. ... Your thinking seems out of whack. Your sureness they will repent just because they are beautiful makes no sense because beauty has nothing to do with goodness. The world isn't a Disney movie where ugly people are bad and pretty ones are good. I think you are thinking too much with the "lower brain" instead of the one in your head.
  3. Reading this topic reminds me of the moronic facebook posts made by some girls who thought the Boston Bomber brothers were innocent because one of them was cute. Yes, that was a thing. Justice is blind for a good reason. I find Shinichi and Ran idealistic when it comes to their principles about murder. One way to look at ethics is to measure how much someone values sticking to good principles versus good outcomes. A principle-driven person would not support bad means even if it led to a very good end, while an outcome-driven person would be upset when good principles prevented good ends. Shinichi and Ran are both very principled, and that works well in places like Japan which is attentive to crime. It is hard to be principled in places that are unfair. For instance, there have been lots of cases in India where repeat rapists and killers who kept getting away because of connections or threats were then killed by mobs. (Akku Yadav was a famous one.) Is it worth standing by your principle not to murder when a rapist will keep attacking the women and children in your community with no hope of justice? That's the sort of decisions some people have to face. Even though I live in a nice country, I can recognize adherence to principles is a luxury rather than universal law that will work well for everyone. That's why I think that Shinichi and Ran are idealistic - they are inexperienced when it comes to struggles others have to face in unfair places. Mostly I hate it when Gosho tries to say one side of the ethics measure I mentioned above is the right one. There was a moment of really strong values dissonance in the fandom when Sera tried to get that hostage taker shot in Mouri agency hostage case but Ran stopped her because she didn't want him to be killed. Gosho made it seem like Sera was worse than Ran for trying to put a good outcome ahead of good principles. I don't like that sort of simplistic thinking about ethics. Both sides have their merits.

  5. ABCDEFG notation is standard pretty much everywhere English speaking, which is what our wiki is aimed at. Only the Germans use H as far as I know, and they have their own wiki and aren't our problem. ABCDEFG is a far, far more common notation than the solfège (DoReMi).
  6. "Akai's father is unfortunately already... it's a secret!" That unfortunately makes me think he is probably pushing daisies. Also Gosho said that Rum has already appeared? Daddy Akai hasn't shown himself.
  7. If your posts are now in some other thread, it is my fault.

From this thread: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/1219-dc-question-and-answer-thread/?p=359461 It has been a very long time since I read the Kindaichi case files and watched a few of the episodes. I freely admit to not remembering exactly how Kindaichi does things and all the details of why I like it less than DC. Detective Conan often has Conan look at the clues, so I know "hey, this is a thing, even if I'm not yet sure what it means." I don't have to comb the panels multiple times looking for things in the background out of place. The reading experience is more casual with only a minor sacrifice to difficulty. Gosho is also consistent and stylized when he portrays clues. For instance, if someone was strangled to death, then they will have that bruise line around their neck and yoshikawa lines if they struggled. It saves me from the artificial difficulty of trying to guess what I am looking at and what the clue's physical features are. I recall Kindaichi tended to be weak on both the things mentioned above. I do remember being frustrated with the author because sometimes I could not tell if the author was being artistically or logically inconsistent or if I was looking at a clue I was supposed to find. It felt like a chore to work through a Kindaichi manga file, scrutinizing the panels to make sure I haven't missed anything. Also the characters, including the protags, supporting cast, suspects, and the victims were usually not as well thought out or as interesting even though the cases were more mature. My overwhelming preference is for guessable murderers in a detective story, as long as you have noticed the clues and theorized properly. I am happy to be wrong if I am wrong for good reasons. It goes with the genre - it is a game between you and the writer. Authors who violate that trust are like that kid from recess who would always change the rules about where "base" is to his benefit: obnoxious and no fun to play with. I drop authors who burn me. (And it is hard to find authors who are both good at writing real mysteries and not prone to shenanigans. I'd accept the occasional rule-break case if they weren't so damn common) If I wanted to be jerked along and surprised I would read something from the "When They Cry" series or some suspense horror.
  9. This thread has been misused lately. This is a thread for questions, not general discussion or commentary disguised as questions. From now on, if I see any more posts that aren't obviously questions, answers to questions, or followup responses to questions that make sense in context I'm either going to hide it or move it to its own thread.
  10. It would be nice to flip through the background suspects. I did a quick check of case suspects only (no background characters or helpful non-suspect side characters) and the only ones who stood out between the mystery train and current were Kiichi-nii's shogi partner in the kidnapped Yumi case, the Yuzu character who worked for Jii, and the ex-secret police Nagano guy. (Not counting MK chars - one of whom is one-eyed). I am going to assume Rum is male per the usual liquor for men wine for women rule. Also, about Kuroda Hyoue, I still feel uncomfortable with how he was presented in the last case. I need another look because I still haven't finished that case, but I did go through and make that post about I thought he might have been switched. It wasn't right as a case solution so I have heard, but... http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/5396-spoiler-discussion-file-913-917-kawanakajima-murder-case/?p=350626
  11. Kind of. Someone else writes the scripts. Certain movies seem to have more input from Gosho than others. For example, Movie 1 (The Time-Bombed Skyscraper) and Movie 18 (Sniper from another Dimension) have Gosho much more heavily involved, and Movie 6 (The Phantom of Baker Street) much less so. Not in manga canon, not yet I believe. Gosho has taken movie stuff and made it manga canon, so this could be true.
  12. No idea. They just do it because it works out for the anime crew that way. Also, you are kind of misusing this topic. You are basically blogging about your experience watching DC, complaining about stuff that bothers you, and then putting a question on the end so it fits the thread. Generally, this thread is for straight to the point questions. If you want to start a topic about your experiences watching DC, why not make a separate topic or a tumblr? What? This is totally wrong. People solve Detective Conan all the time before the answer is given. That's the point. Between DCTP and DCW we are almost 100% for the last 75 cases or so. We have a whole forum dedicated to that- the manga one. In the anime sometimes there are hints in the first part of the final episode for a case, but you can always pause when Conan does the "I have figured it out smirk" and solve it. (Except when the animators make mistakes which isn't too common for cases compared to arcs) I have had worse experiences with Kindaichi than Detective Conan when it comes to consistent case quality and good depiction.
  13. Have a gander at the manga board. All the people who like to solve the cases hang out there.
  14. If you sum all the other character's votes though, you find that about 110 people voted for a major character. 41 additional people voted for "Other known character not specifically mentioned below" which was supposed to be a catch all for major characters I hadn't mentioned yet, but has probably been just as often voted in by the Karasuma Renya/Daikoku Rentarou/etc crowd who didn't choose the minor character option by mistake. Detective Conan World can be considered a shapshot of the most knowledgeable DC readers. It's anyone who is into the series enough to sign up here and then vote. While that doesn't seem like a high bar to pass, it still weeds out the least dedicated. The votes seem to be nearly split 38% (~130 votes) for a known major character, 32% (~108 votes) for a minor character, 27% (~92 votes) for a new character who hasn't appeared yet (including relative of pre-existing character), and 3% (9 votes) for someone else (whatever that may be). The minor character option in particular has seen pretty drastic growth the last 3-4 years, and I think represents a general shift in theories.
  15. Kid will disguise as Shinichi. I guarantee it. The real question is will Ran learn from her experience in Movie 14?
  16. Crud, people are already trying to answer the next case? I gotta catch up! I'm still in the middle of Nagano!

Thanks MT for telling me that 918 and 919 are out. I have been reading the manga from the beginnig to see where its diff from the anime, and i have to say that im kinda disappointed that the anime changed a lot of stuff.

  17. To be fair Nana posted first. Also moving this thread to general because why not.
  18. Just to clarify things for the wiki, did that James Black postcard say Vermouth is not the boss's wife, or Vermouth is not James' wife? Is it ambiguous?
  19. Gosho didn't say unambiguously Eri is not the boss, so I haven't included her. She isn't even a good contender because it is unlikely the boss would give Gin permission to kill her own husband anyway. Three out of four of the most suspected male characters have now been ruled out, leaving Atsushi left. Atsushi is already a bad pick because of how he behaved during Hidden Bathroom secret and because a character who married someone angelic like Elena is unlikely to order the deaths of his daughters. There aren't many more major recurring characters introduced prior to the Kir arc full name interview who aren't ruled out by alibis like being with Haibara. I feel like Gosho is getting comfortable disclaiming these main characters because he isn't worried someone is going to name a character he can't deny. I get the feeling we should be looking a lot more minor, or even just for a background name.
  20. Heads up, James Black, Sonoko, and the Detective Boys (Ayumi, Genta, Mitsuhiko) have all been denied by Gosho via postcard. People Gosho has said are not the the boss in interviews: Agasa, Kudo Yuusaku, Conan, Ran, Vermouth, Shiratori, James Black, Sonoko, Ayumi, Genta, Mitsuhiko
  21. Good to see James black off the list of boss candidates. Blueish purple might refer to eye color. I bet the BO movie will have the flash of 18 rather than the slow building drama 5.
  22. While it is understandable for Kaito not to make any progress finding Pandora (narrowing it down further from big jewels would further limit the types of things Kid can target), it would be nice for development with the MK Org. I really like how the specials series went so far as to introduce Spider as a competent counterpoint to Snake and to increase the sense of threat. I hope the official MK manga or the 1412 anime considers developing the MK org a bit more. It would also be nice to see some multi-case arc plots that aren't heist or romance related. Where is Aoko's mom? Kaito has to hunt for some other item other than Pandora. A magician has stolen some of Toichi's routines! Rival witches messing with Akako! Just something to mix up the usual stuff.
  23. You didn't miss much. It was spamming posts with forehead-to-keyboard vomit like "hjnnk", copying the posts of other people, and quoting people's posts with no added content or pictures of Ayumi. It was also reporting random people's posts to the mods. People are weird. I like how it tried to make a random account that actually looked right, but then failed at everything else. Edit: To be on topic, I want to become an electric blanket burrito.
  24. Flagged Hinata as spammer to block posting capabilities.
  25. Those sculptures look great.
