The episode returns to the 3rd case before Shinichi Kudo consumes APTX-4869 and shrinks into Conan Edogawa. Shinichi and Ran are having their conversation in the middle of their outing at the Beika Aquarium when a man is found dead due to a fatal stab to his heart. Megure and his subordinates arrive at the scene, and are amazed (speechless as well) on how Shinichi is able to identify the victim, what he did before he met his end. He even narrows the suspects and solves the case almost with ease. However, he forgets to notice Ran about her phone’s whereabouts when he takes it for something, causing Ran to accidentally drop into a sewer that she can’t take it back. The incident leads us to Tropical Land, as Shinichi is seen scouting the area, looking for the best location for their outing in the Tropical Land. Little did he know that his destinies will change forever when he and Ran are having fun in the location.

Conan and Kogoro end up being honourable guests of a special event held in Furai city following a nomination of someone claiming themselves to be none other than Inspector Megure. However, Megure denies any knowledge of this when asked by Conan as Kogoro. In addition, Megure also tells about the recent serial jewelry robberies with no sign of being sold domestically, and a robbery just happens today with an alarming level of amateurism, as the thieves were caught so easily that it makes Megure wonder if someone wants to toy with the police. Soon, Conan is able to figure out that the whole things that happened to him, Kogoro, and Megure are not an actual joke, but a premeditated plot regarding the stolen jewelry.

Kogoro's client today is the apprentice of a master clockmaker. The client, Ryota Tanno, was sent a threatening message, but what may be more threatening is that his master was found dead this morning at a nearby lake by Agasa and Haibara. Rumors suggest that this master, Masato Furubuchi did not have the best of relationships with his apprentices. This mystery will soon reveal itself to, in fact, include two clashing alibis, deduced by the great detective and paralleled by...the great detective's fan who handcuffed Kogoro and Tanno together!
