At the time the four are talking, a mysterious author Rokuro Oshiba has died from two fatal blows on his head, while Takashi Koiwai has fallen down the stairs near the bench to his death. Following the testimony of the witness Ren Tsutoba, we can assume that Koiwai hit Oshiba twice, before falling to his death due to carelessness. However, Conan is not convinced with his testimony because the only things that he, Kogoro, and the couple know before the incidents are only Tsutoba's words: "Stop! Wait!".

The reasons for them to believe they still have hope are because there haven't been any cases of cyanide poisoning for the recent two days, and Fuwa’s behaviours suggest he has been waiting for the poison to be consumed in a specific time.
