Background

I'm fairly new here at the wiki, but I'm no stranger to the Conan fandom.

I entered in a good majority of the titles on the Anime News Network anime episode listing for Conan and am the editor of the Japanese version of the show at TV.com.

I'm also one of the main hosts for the Detective Conan World Podcast along with CarpetCrawler, Southpaw, and Icka.

Transliteration Style

  • I use Hepburn romanization for particles. This means I write "he" (へ) as "e", "wo" (を) as "o", and "ha" (は) as "wa".
  • Katakana usage is capitalized. Therefore I write コナン as KONAN.

List of notable case characters

This is a list of recurring minor characters in Detective Conan whose appearance made a notable impact on the plot of the main storyline or influenced the main characters in some way. This list excludes main characters, main law enforcement, the Black Organization, and mystery people related to the arc (e.g. Eisuke or Araide).

Family members

Genji Kojima

Genji Kojima.jpg

Genta's father, a true "Edokko" (child of Tokyo). First appears in Volume 63 during the Kojima Contest Case and is the keyhole character for that volume.

Midori Megure

Midori Megure.jpg

Inspector Megure's wife, who met him on an old case. Both got scars on the forehead, but fell in love as well.

Misae Yamamura

Misae Yamamura.jpg

Misao Yamamura's grandmother, who sometimes gets involved in cases that he is working on. First appears in Volume 63 during the Silver White Witch Case.

Law enforcement

Chosuke Takagi

Chosuke Takagi.jpg

Chosuke Takagi (高木 長介 Takagi Chōsuke?) is a police detective and Inspector Megure's senior by two years. He was moved from Tokyo to Tottori in order to investigate a large crime syndicate there. Chosuke first appeared in MPD Case 6, in which the other Tokyo police thought Wataru Takagi was being sent to Tottori. Chosuke investigated a crime with Miwako Sato and Wataru Takagi that involved a friend of Chiba's. After the case was solved, Takagi found out that it was Chosuke being sent to Tottori and not him. Chosuke was shown to be very aggressive at times in an investigation. Once he grabbed Chiba by the collar and slammed him against the wall just to ask him for confirmation to a question. He is also very efficient at investigating, taking notice of minor details and connecting the dots rather quickly. He suspected Chiba of lying to protect his friend in the first case he appeared in, because he believed that as a police detective he had to suspect everyone no matter how good they are.

Vermouth arc

Hikaru Yasumoto

Hikaru Yasumoto.jpg
Hikaru getting yelled at by Yoshiteru Araide for another blunder.

Hikaru Yasumoto (保本 ひかる Yasumoto Hikaru?) once suffered from overwork, which nearly ruptured her appendix, and had to spend some time in the hospital. There she met Tomoaki Araide, then a medical student in his practical period, who looked after her. After her recovery, she was hired by Tomoaki's stepmother, Yoko Araide, as a housemaid and aid to her eldery mother-in-law, Mitsu Araide.[1]

Eventually, Hikaru became an unwitting pawn in Yoko's scheme to murder her womanizing husband for driving her dear friend, Tomoaki's mother, to suicide. When Yoko Araide was exposed as the murderer, Conan - through his use of the "Sleeping Kogoro" - suggested that Hikaru's unknowing involvement in Dr. Araide's murder be kept secret, lest it would cause her a serious shock if she found out that she had helped killing her employer. This secret fact eventually proved vital in exposing Vermouth.[2]

When Vermouth decided to infiltrate the Beika area disguised as Dr. Araide, she attempted to have Tomoaki and his family eliminated. However, FBI agent Jodie Starling, who had been observing Vermouth undercover, was able to thwart the plan, rescuing the Araides and Hikaru and bringing them to America for safekeeping.[3] After Vermouth's cover was finally blown, Hikaru returned to Beika along with her employers and has continued to serve them ever since.[4]

Hikaru appears to be a very friendly and caring, if rather shy and emotional, person. During her stint with Araide senior, she was prone to minor household accidents. These accidents may have occured due to the possibility that she has a crush on her employer's son and therefore was anxious about having to leave him, or him getting involved with someone else.[5]

Nanatsu no ko

Kyosuke Haga

Kyosuke Haga.jpg

Kyosuke Haga (芳賀 京介 Haga Kyōsuke?) was 32 years old in the one and only case in which he was introduced. He is a skilled musician and was shown to be quite capable of playing a Stradivarius. He also had perfect pitch. He is the nephew of Choichiro (head of the Shitara family).

Kyosuke murdered 2 people in a murder case relating to a Stradivarius. Conan, after some investigation, used "Sleeping Kogoro" to expose him as the culprit. Kyosuke attempted to commit suicide by jumping out a window, but his plan was foiled by Conan, who had predicted what he would try to do.

When Kyosuke was being taken away by the police, Conan asked him if he knew any songs that began with "B A G A". Kyosuke told him about the song "Nanatsu no Ko", information that would lead Conan to discovering Anokata's phone number.

Detective Koshien

Natsuki Koshimizu

Natsuki Koshimizu.jpg

Koshimizu was a High School Detective from Fukuoka, the capital of the Fukuoka Prefecture on Kyūshū, the southernmost island of the Japanese mainland. It is not known for how long exactly she has been engaged in investigative work; according to her own statement, however, she was a relative newcomer, with only 100 solved cases on her credit.[6]

One year ago, a year after Natsuki had finished high school, a wealthy socialite was found hanged inside her manor house. The police and Natsuki concluded at first that she must have committed suicide (as she really had), but some time later Junya Tokitsu, another high school detective, appeared on the scene and declared that her death was actually a murder. This was a serious misconception, as Junya had fallen for a trick prepared by a burglar after the murder, but it was enough for the police to open a murder investigation. The only suspect in the case was the lady's young housemaid, Natsuki's best friend. She was repeatedly and harshly questioned by the police, and even though no conclusive evidence could be brought up against her, the girl cracked under the strain and eventually committed suicide.[7]

Because Junya later realized that his deduction had been false, he asked to remain anonymous, and so Natsuki had only few scant clues to work with as she set out to avenge her friend's death. She finally decided to arrange a fake detectives' reality TV competition (Detective Koshien), with the most reputable High School Detectives attending; next to Junya and herself, this included Heiji Hattori and Shinichi Kudo (who could attend only as Conan Edogawa), and Saguru Hakuba, who had been asked to fill in for Shinichi. She arranged for her trap to be sprung on a remote island, cutting off all connections to the mainland while she sought to find the culprit.

Natsuki finally worked out that Junya was the person responsible and killed him by bashing his head with a hammer when he demonstrated his callousness and self-interest about the past case with no feelings of remorse whatsoever. She also trapped herself and her entourage on the island to die of starvation, since two of them - the burglar who had unintentionally backed up Junya's claims, by using the trick he discovered, to try stealing from the manor; and the manor's butler who had refused to clear the case out of misguided affection for the lady, since he didn't want people to know she was mentally ill due to the huge prejudices against mental illnesses in Japan - were also (if more indirectly) responsible for her friend's death. Conan and Heiji managed to expose her as the culprit, and she quietly allowed herself to be given to the authorities, but not before expressing her deepest respect for the two and the hope of working with them some time in the future.[8] She is the keyhole character for Volume 54.

Natsuki is apparently a capable investigator; however, as the Detective Koshien Case has proven, she tends to be extremely stubborn and single-minded if a case touches her personally, and she pursues the culprit(s) relentlessly until they are brought to justice. Though she is by no means a thoroughly evil person, but actually a gentle and considerate character, her persistance does tend to cloud her judgement at times. On her plus side, she is a careful planner and strategist, as well as being a natural actress.

Natsuki has also apparently developed a closer personal interest in Heiji Hattori for his impulsive, but ultimately dedicated demeanor.[9]

Junya Tokitsu

Junya Tokitsu.jpg

Junya Tokitsu (時津 潤哉 Tokitsu Junya?) was the High School Detective representing the North in the Detective Koshien that Conan Edogawa, Heiji Hattori, Saguru Hakuba and Natsuki Koshimizu attended. Though he was born in Tokyo, he grew up in Hokkaido. He had handled approximately 300 cases, where more than 250 people were arrested and prosecuted while got away and committed suicide. He was invited to participate in the Detective Koshien by a fake Nichiuri director.

After excusing himself to prepare his deductions for the first round case, he was later found dead in his room. It was locked room murder case. The suspects were Koshimizu, Kouya and Tsuchio. Later, Conan found out the murderer. Koshimizu Natsuki killed Tokitsu Junya and used the same locked room trick that was used in the Lavender Murder Case.

Tokitsu Junya was the detective involved during that case who unfortunately made wrong deductions saying that it was murder case even though it was actually a suicide. He realized that his deduction was wrong but didn't correct himself; that caused Natsuki's friend to be suspected and later commit suicide. When Natsuki confronted him on it, Junya showed little to no remorse, which sent her over the edge and caused her to beat him to death with a hammer.

Tokitsu has rather odd speech patterns, referring to himself as shousei (小生). This is a rather archaic, self-deprecating form of "I" used by males with equals and subordinates; nowadays it's rare, but still used sometimes in letters and such. This is actually quite important to the plot, since Natsuki's friend noticed how unusual it was and told Natsuki that "a highschool detective with an odd accent" was the one who mistakenly got her accused for the Lavender Murder Case. Not knowing the name of said "highschool detective", which wasn't released to the press due to being a minor, Natsuki gathered a group of sleuths fitting the description: Tokitsu, Hakuba (whose Japanese was odd-sounding due to living abroad), and Heiji (who has a strong Osaka accent).
