Kimiya Tomoyose is a recent widow whose husband left her a wooden box filled with a secret just for her. She asks the Jirokichi Suzuki, her husband's old friend, for help in opening the box containing a rare moonstone but Kaito Kid has his eyes on it as well!

The instructions to open the box were hidden on the Nikujaga recipe page of one of the cook books. Kimika never needed to read those, since she learned her husband's favorite Nikujaga recipe from her mother-in-law. Inside the box there were the moonstone and the two pages of diary that Kimika and her husband shared during high school. This time, Kaitou Kid was disguised as Professor Agasa. Conan realized this when he noticed the bandages on Professor Agasa's fingers were slightly different and when Agasa helped Ran reach a book on a high bookshelf. Ran and Professor Agasa are about the same height, so they would both be unable to reach the book on the high bookshelf, unless Agasa was Kid in disguise since Kid is taller.

Manga to anime changes

• Conan and Haibara's clothes are not the same as in the manga at the beginning of the episode.
• Haibara remarking that Subaru was wearing a turtleneck in summer was left out of the episode because the episode aired in January. Though it was dubbed back in for some international versions that aired later.
• In the manga, the old lady decides to offer the book Ran wanted to read to her. This dialogue was cut from the anime version.

Trivia

• This is the first dubbed episode in China since The Man Who Died Twice after a hiatus in Mandarin dub. The resumed episodes have new voice actors and sport a Mainland Chinese accent as opposed to the original Taiwanese accent.
• It is revealed that Kaito Kuroba has 4G on his mobile cellphone.
