Part 1
Kogoro appears in a commercial to promote white chocolate for White Day and is invited to the chocolate company's White Day party. Kogoro, Ran, and Conan attend and are introduced to the company presidents, Taruto Urai and his wife Hoshie Urai. During the party, Taruto collapses. At first thought to be one of his practical jokes, Conan quickly notices that Taruto has died from cyanide poisoning.
+
The Detective Boys hear a rumor from a classmate where a warehouse one second, was filled with treasure and how they all disappeared the next. Before heading to the warehouse to investigate, the Detective Boys drop by Conan's house where they run into an unknown person unbeknownst to Conan. During the warehouse investigation, Conan notices that there were recently made footprints from an adult even though the warehouse has been locked up for years and that the footprints lead up to an abacus with an odd number of beads. Conan decides to look through the warehouse by climbing a tree and looking through a window and sees the treasure their classmate was talking about. When they enter the warehouse through the front door, the Detective Boys discover the warehouse is in the same state as when they entered it. While Conan deduces that there might be a mechanism in the roof or in the floor, the Detective Boys prove him wrong declaring that the distance between the window and the roof is two meters from the outside and inside and that the markers they placed on the floors did not change. The marker leaning against the wall however has disappeared causing Conan to wonder what the mechanism in the warehouse is.

Inspector Megure and his officers are called to investigate the death. The investigation leads Hoshie to be the prime suspect. As she is taken away to be searched, Hoshie trips and falls on a table causing many lemon tea glasses to shatter. Meanwhile, evidence of a medicinal wafer containing poison is found in Urai's mouth, suggesting suicide.

Part 2
Despite all appearing to be a suicide case, Conan is certain that Hoshie is the culprit and investigates on how she delivered the poison to her husband, finally finding several pieces of critical evidence and exposing her.
+
Conan investigates and realizes the abacus is a mechanism that reveals the secret room and that the warehouse was made by Samizu Kichiemon. The Detective Boys also receive a text message and realize the trick to the warehouse. The Detective Boys and Conan have the owner of the warehouse call the police before revealing their deductions.

<spoiler>Conan discovers that the burn marks on Hoshie's napkin indicate that cyanide was on the napkin and the poison was placed on a lemon slice. Conan elaborately explains how Taruto was famously known to hate sour things, and had planned to surprise his guest by eating sour food with the use of synsepalum dulcificum, which would temporarily reorganize his taste buds to accept sour food as sweet. Upon testing if the synsepalum dulcificum was still in effect, Taruto ate the poisoned lemon slice. While down on the ground after her "accidental" stumble, Hoshie took the lemon and placed the medicinal wafer in her husband's mouth and hid the lemon slice among the others during her fall. Conan concludes that Hoshie's fingerprint and Taruto's saliva should be on the poisoned lemon slice.

When the police arrive, the Detective Boys explain that the warehouse has a low ceiling which was concealed by the interior design of the warehouse. A fake window was installed inside the warehouse to mimic the distance between the window and the ceiling outside the warehouse. Conan then explains the abacus reveals the secret room in the attic when it is arranged so it represents the Kanji Samizu. The ceiling lowers revealing a room full of stolen goods and the robber who is arrested by the police. Conan reveals to the Detective Boys that he discovered Heiji has been giving them advice during the investigation and forces Heiji to come out of hiding.</spoiler>

When confronted with the facts, Hoshie Urai confesses, revealing her motive is revenge for the death of her boyfriend who had started his apprenticeship along with her in Taruto's confectionery. During a competition, her boyfriend was clearly considered the prospective winner because of his outstanding sour confections, but Taruto, who favored Hoshie, decided to push him out of the race by claiming that his confections were way too sour. Devastated by this fake assessment, the boy had hung himself; Taruto's subsequent distaste for sour things resulted from his panging conscience for inadvertently having caused his apprentice's death. His guilt came to daylight after Hoshie had recently fed him a sour lemon cake, whereupon Taruto had collapsed and told everything.

On the way home, Ran is visibly saddened since she thinks she is the only one of her acquaintances not to have received a White Day gift. She's about to cry when they get to the Agency, but is cheered up when she discovers a bag of white throat lozenge (medicine candy for sore throats) left there. Said package is from Shinichi/Conan (who pretends to be the one who found it), and a note left with it says that during their last phone talk he noticed her voice was strained so he wants to help her feel better.</spoiler>

Situation

Part 1

Part 2

Conan investigates and realizes the abacus is a mechanism that reveals the secret room and that the warehouse was made by Samizu Kichiemon. The Detective Boys also receive a text message and realize the trick to the warehouse. The Detective Boys and Conan have the owner of the warehouse call the police before revealing their deductions.
