| Conan and Kogoro end up being honourable guests of a special event held in Furai city following a nomination of someone claiming themselves to be none other than Inspector Megure. However, Megure denies any knowledge of this when asked by Conan as Kogoro. In addition, Megure also tells about the recent serial jewelry robberies with no sign of being sold domestically, and a robbery just happens today with an alarming level of amateurism, as the thieves were caught so easily that it makes Megure wonder if someone wants to toy with the police. Soon, Conan is able to figure out that the whole things that happened to him, Kogoro, and Megure are not an actual joke, but a premeditated plot regarding the stolen jewelry. | ||||||||||

| Agasa and Conan are on their way to Kanazawa to have lunch with Ran, Sonoko, and Kogoro at a French restaurant when they are pulled over by a policewoman for speeding, but before she leaves, she looks at Conan and smiles. While in the restroom, Agasa accidentally meets Kinji Nanjou, a safe company director who looks just like Agasa, and is asked by him to act as a body double for him, only to end up being the victim of a kidnapping.
The kidnappers show no mercy after realizing that they are being tailed, even if it is just a boy, and this almost causes Conan to lose his life. Fortunately, the mysterious policewoman from the beginning of the story, later introduced as Chihaya Hagiwara, appears in time to rescue the boy. The two continue their pursuit, despite the increasing odds, and Conan's determination reminds Chihaya of her deceased younger brother. | ||||||||||

| Despite setting up a roadblock, the kidnappers somehow manage to get through. Luckily, a driver, who passed through the roadblock, left a question about someone buying a lot of hot tea and an umbrella from a convenience store for unknown reasons. This gives Conan more clues to find the car that kidnapped Agasa after they removed their fake license plate. However, they are forced to act quickly because the press reports that the real director has been arrested. Meanwhile, Inspector Jugo Yokomizo explains why things will get dangerous when Chihaya meets Conan, but get dangerous for whom, we don't know exactly yet.
