Who's better off with Shinichi? Haibara Ai or Ran??
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chianti's topic in General
To be fair to Ran here, it's not all happy in the Ai camp either. Both lie to each other and neither trusts the other. It really stands out when you read several plot related chapters in a row. Haibara pitches a fit pretty much every time Conan goes out to stop the Org from doing bad things, and Conan tries to hide what he has learned or ditch Haibara (or lock her in Agasa's basement) whenever he gets a lead. At least Ran trusts Shinichi, even if he doesn't give her that benefit.Conan hiding stuff - list not complete 33-8 hiding news of stolen files – Haibara says that kind of behavior is “strangling” her and Ran. Not telling Haibara about info Agasa learned about Vermouth on web page. Not telling her about Itakura’s diary. Knocks Haibara out with wrsitwatch and locks her in Agasa's basement before confrontation with Vermouth 582 Conan not wanting her to come investigate Eisuke Hondou’s father. Tells her to stay in the car. Not telling Ai about finding Kir. 48-10 Not telling her about Bourbon or scar Akai Not telling her about Akai living next door (for a good reason though because of the Akemi incident) Ai hiding stuff - list not complete Lots and lots of black org related stuff obviously. – purpose of APTX and other things like that. The true name of the org: multiple times she has said “the people you call the men in black” as in the scene where she pretends to shoot Conan. This implies she knows another name for them. Another BO presence at the Haido city hotel until after the fact. (Vermouth) Haibara saved the floppy from the Haido City Hotel and doesn’t tell Conan about it. You can see a bloody disk in the stack during the events of desperate revival. (25.9/251 pg8 and ep188) Age of project. (189) There is room for feelings between Conan and Ai if some things change. The most obvious way to change Haibara’s character. First, to gain Conan’s trust that she won’t attempt a sacrifice routine if she encounters a difficult org situation, Haibara needs to be stronger in the face of her enemies i.e. not want to avoid all situations with them. Also, while she has been trending in this direction, Haibara needs to not dress up her actions driven by her sense of righteousness with claimed motivations like getting APTX, or keeping her cover safe. On the opposite side, Conan could change to appreciate more that Haibara's time in the Org had forced her to be closed, cold, untrusting, and paranoid, and also that Haibara frequently doesn’t often say what she really means or thinks. He could also try to be more trusting of her, and try to keep her abreast of his thoughts and the current situation, even if it means Haibara worries. -

Disappearing letters murder case (781-???)
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Chekhov MacGuffin's topic in Manga series
Switching the poll out now we have an additional murder The previous question and results are... Who was the culprit behind Wakamatsu Kouhei's death? Wakamatsu Ikurou (25): Kouhei's son (5 votes [45.45%]) Wakamatsu Serika (43) : Kouhei's wife (1 votes [9.09%]) Shiina Masashige (56): Design company senior managing director (0 votes [0.00%]) Fujinami Sumio (30): Design company chief designer and football head (1 votes [9.09%]) Satake Yoshimi (32): Victim's Secretary (2 votes [18.18%]) Yonehara Sakurako (23): Housekeeper (0 votes [0.00%]) Someone else (0 votes [0.00%]) It was an accident (0 votes [0.00%]) It was really a suicide (0 votes [0.00%]) I am not ready to vote yet (2 votes [18.18%]) More than one person (0 votes [0.00%]) Feel free to keep discussing this question and the others. I am currently working on a revised solution. This is certainly a tough case. -
Only if the character who betrays makes sense and it is all logical and rational in hindsight. Not like Agasa was evil and never told anyone about Haibara and Conan because he was testing them or some garbage nonsense like that.

I don't recall Gosho ever doing this. This would be too cheap, even for Gosho. I edited my post with additional problems after I posted. Sorry. I don't think the FBI would be good enough to do it based on the additional problems I mentioned above. It's dark and vague red gunk pouring from the back of Akai's head is close enough. The camera's perspective doesn't allow Gin to see the back of the head. I'd argue that the small exit wound is a sign squibs and bloodpackets were used, but Gosho is a fan of pretty little headshots, so I'm not sure it would be valid to go there. I think we have enough info to have a pretty good idea of what happened especially for the critical fake death part.

Preventing this is primarily a matter of cleaning the gun properly beforehand which isn't suspicious even if Kir was being watched because confirming the working of a gun you have just been given is standard as far as I know from my limited experience. With only one shot prior to the second, the gun probably isn't going to get gunked up enough to spit shrapnel at Akai's forehead. Also note that Akai's forehead will be shielded by an unobtrusive protective plate to prevent direct damage from the squib detonating the fake blood packets. This may help help with minor debris. This is likely because they needed someone to conveniently arrange a traffic accident to call the police to the scene and force Gin to retreat before he can confirm things or take extra precautions. Conan was in Tokyo at the time so it isn't him. Maybe, but the readers watched the assassination unfold not on camera. Basically Gosho showed side shots and closeups and such that Kir's camera wouldn't have been able to see. If it was a camera trick, we should have watched Akai's assassination on Gin and Vodka's TV through the camera because it would be unfair to the readers to not clarify the scene they witnessed was taken through a camera. In short, I don't think the signal was hijacked because of the way Gosho drew everything. From a technical standpoint, I think hijacking would have a much greater rate of failure than faking gunshots realtime. It would have to be set and filmed in advance. This creates all sorts of problems. The filmers need to take the time to disguise someone as Kir and rush to Raiha pass before the meeting. It also means they don't know what kind of gun Kir will be using, so basically they are screwed if they get the gun type wrong. Also prerecorded videos don't allow for real time reactions or verbal responses to Gin's commands. They're SOL if he orders Kir to vocally acknowledge him, look around, set the bomb to a specific length of time, etc. You also better hope no one drives by in the background or a noticeable gust of wind doesn't pick up. You would have to figure out the frequency used in order to hijack it, and hope to hell the signal isn't encrypted. Kir is being watched up until the assassination so communicating this info back to the Akai's potential signal hijacking accomplices would be risky and extremely difficult. In short, I think it's far too reliant on luck to work.

There are crimped blanks which don't have wads at all. There are also theatrical productions where the actor commits suicide with a gun on stage where safe blanks are used point blank. Perspective tricks like aiming behind the head are probably used (I would know if I didn't hit a paywall for a useful looking theatrical firearms video), but even then you wouldn't want anything else flying out of the gun while it is close to your head. You can find info by googling wadless blanks and crimped blank cartridges. Also, not all blanks with wads kill at close range, only if they malfunction. It was with Sstimson if you want to search DCTP, but I explained that it's probable that Akai and Hidemi undertook the plan with the idea that Hidemi would really kill Akai if it looked like it would go wrong which explains her line to Akai about inconveniencing him. It's possible Gin could have given Kir a gun she didn't have the proper size blanks for, or ordered her to empty the full clip into him. It was a camera on a collar Kir was wearing facing forward. Based on the on screen image, it wasn't very distorted so it would be hard to pull off a perspective trick.
-
Only if Kir used real bullets. There are "fake" bullets called blanks which have a shell and gunpowder, but no bullet. They make a bang and a cartridge drops to the ground, but the only thing that comes out of the front of the gun is hot air. Blanks are often used in guns for starting races. The basic summary of the plan to fake Akai Shuuichi's death is that Mizunashi Rena will meet Akai and will pretend to shoot him. To make it look realistic, blank cartridges and blood packets with small detonators will be used. Akai will pretend to die and fall down in the truck. When Rena is fiddling with the small bomb, Akai places Kusuda Rikumichi's body in his place. He exits the truck when Kir leaves. Meanwhile Jodie Starling will have the one of Conan's two cellphones that has Rikumichi's fingerprints on it. She will think they are Akai's and when she goes to validate the identity of the body with the police, it will match Rikumichi's fingerprints and she will be fooled into thinking Akai died. -copied from the wiki-

I guess he means Wandering Red Butterfly.

It's the way to make stuff display properly. Most of it is extremely simple, but some is more difficult. For instance, to properly display the first three entries of Heiji's anime appearences. <onlyinclude></onlyinclude>

Nice Miyano poll by the way. It is well written and has covers a lot of potential good options.

That's the first I've heard of this. I assume you mean it comes from taking the first kana of "Sherlock" and "Holmes"? Hell's Angel makes more sense English-wise. Haibara's Japanese translation of the nickname was literally "the angel which fell into hell".(V41-11 pg 12) Gosho's English is iffy, so it is better to use the Japanese sense. Basically instead of implying evilness, the nickname implies Elena is an angel, basically a good person, who fell into hell, The Black Organization. Her behavior on the tapes, all around nice, friendly, and loving, corroborates this. She probably earned the nickname because her goodness seemed out of place among the criminality and darkness or the rest of the Organization. Also copied from my speculation section about the Miyanos (For the most up to date version see this link.)

The Official Episodes 622-623 Discussion Thread
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to CarpetCrawler's topic in Anime series
I liked it because the detective boys had a chance to be competent (at the end with the cellphone code at least), Conan didn't dominate the whole episode, and they dished out a great Okiya is Akai clue after no Okiya for a long time. The lack of earthquake scene was a little sad, but understandable in light of recent events. Also I liked the criminals in this episode. -
That's probably a good way to do it, keeping in mind that it's possible he may have been added where he shouldn't be or accidentally skipped in some episodes. As for wiki syntax, go to another character's page where it has been filled out and copy it. It would be nice if listings in the cast appearances automatically updated the anime appearances pages.

I'd probably start a new section for it entirely after the <1 year ago section (even though it did happen <1 year ago). My reasoning is that we should organize the dates into a BC (Before Conan) and AC (Anno Conani) split to make it easy on people looking for a timeline of things before and after Shinichi shrunk. http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Timeline#Current_Timeline
-
That's because no one has filled out the list of all the episodes he has appeared in yet.
-
It's probably one of these two (results found by searching the wiki with the words "kidnapped treasure") Meiji Restoration Mystery Tour (Episode 518-519) Solitary Island of the Princess and the Dragon King's Palace (Episode 291-293)

Agasa Hiroshi comes from Agatha Christie and 博士 (professor) which is written the same way as Agasa's first name "Hiroshi" (博士). (So his name written with title looks like "professor Professor Agasa")Unless you are trying to say Moriarty and Agasa are both professors so Agasa must be bad or related to the boss... which is something even worse than Kogoro would usually come up with.

No I haven't. The biochemistry agenda is probably immortality and deaging. Pisco implied this in his chat with Shiho. The computer agenda I don't know, but I have recently come to like the idea of simulating a human brain - something like virtually uploading yourself. The extreme difficulty of such a program and heavy AI requirements explain why extremely skilled programmers would be needed, as well as game programmers who do more in AI than other types, and why someone like Itakura wouldn't like it. Both computer and biochem have the same purpose from two different directions, immortality/preserving the mind forever. I might change my mind though on the computer agenda, ask me again in six months. Also McMuffin, seriously? *facepalms*

[Pairing] Vote for a non-Shinichi/Conan boyfriend for Haibara
Chekhov MacGuffin replied to Black Demon's topic in General
It think it's a good way of doing it, I just mentally add their votes together in my head. Voted Mitsuhiko and Kid. I don't really like Kid, so maybe Haibara would murder him with biting sarcasm. If I were more serious, I would vote Araide. -

It's because when I am not arguing about Okiya or Vermouth, I try to answer people's questions, post case solutions, and things of that nature.

But Bourbon isn't interested in Shinichi. He wants Akai and maybe Sherry. To have the motivation to get the files about Shinichi in the first place, he would have to connect Conan and Shinichi, which if he is scar Akai, hasn't come anywhere close to happening. Sherry did not report the results that several of her mice shrank to the greater organization because they have not been able to figure out how Shiho managed to escape the locked room. If Shiho had reported her data, the Organization would have known that shrinking was a possible side effect of APTX 4869 and would have figured out how she escaped and begun looking for a child. Furthermore, if Shiho had reported to the Organization that APTX 4869 had the possibility of leaving the victim alive, the Boss and/or Shiho's superiors would not have permitted the drug in situations where the victim, if surviving, could escape as in Shinichi's case or the time sensitive assassination of Nomiguchi Shigehiko. They still seem to regard Shinichi as dead. Prove they exist. It's a possibility, but there is no evidence of additional members hanging around who saw Conan. If we roll through the cases, the Akemi case doesn't matter because Conan was in the newspaper. There wouldn't be any in the bullet train case because they were aiming to blow the train up. Tequila's was probably a one person exchange because the prior exchanges (first case and Shinkansen) only involved Gin and Vodka who were together without additional help. For the mourning party, it was only mentioned that they had to drag Vermouth in to help; Gin didn't mention others. If there were others, they would have helped Pisco. Besides Vermouth, Pisco seemed to be on his own. The bus jack was a Vermouth only affair because she working in secret. There were none in the case part of the Itakura case because they would have reported Itakura's murder. The locker half of the Itakura case there were assistants to Vodka who reported a kid, but no further details and that detail was promptly was ignored afterwards when Gin discounted a kid being involved by stopping his locker search. Vermouth did bring Calvados, but no one else to the Shipyard showdown because she was acting outside of orders and had to use unconventional means (using his infatuation) to get Calvados there in the first place. In FBI and the Org, only Kir and Vermouth saw Conan for the first part. Any additional BO members hanging around would have noticed the shooting and alerted someone about Jodie. The second half of FBI vs. the Org, they saw Conan so I am ignoring that. In Clash, Rikumichi acted alone to take secret pictures and such, if he had a second person, they would have been watching his back and he would have had a heads up to the FBI surrounding him in the nurse's station. That person would have also alerted the BO directly about the loss of Rikumichi; Vodka said he lost touch with the guy, not got a report Rikumichi was discovered. Vodka did say he sent in a second guy, and we heard about FBI, but no suspicious kids. A lack of communication here means that Conan's presence was not announced to the parties who would need to know (Gin and Vodka.) And finally, scar Akai has seen Conan only in not directly BO related cases, so I'm not counting him. If you follow Conan's path, it's unlikely they would have crossed unintentionally. Conan was in the car at their arrival and stayed in the car up until the time they went to the old buildings's wine storage room. Conan then went to the main front desk and found out the wine storage in in the old building which implies the front desk is not in the old building or they would have said "this building". Meanwhile the BO went to the roof of the old building; presumably they don't have to go back to the new building's front desk to get to the roof of the old building, so they wouldn't have encountered Conan at this time. They got to the roof ahead of Conan so it's unlikely they crossed here. Conan then went to the roof where the BO didn't see him because he hid behind the door, then left to go back to wine storage room via the stairs behind him. Gin went down the chimney to shoot Pisco. Presumably Vodka stayed behind to help Gin out or left altogether to get clear of incoming firemen. He obviously didn't see Conan. Conan had already grabbed Haibara and retreated before Gin got down the chimney: flames were obscuring the far door at any rate. Gin went back up the chimney and Conan got Haibara to the car; I assume he wouldn't be so foolish as to load Haibara in right in front of the Porsche if anyone was in it.

Do you mean Okiya? If so, I have to disagree about him being Bourbon. Scar Akai on the other hand has very little exposure to Conan although enough to flag him as interesting. I doubt Sera is Bourbon either. How many operations have the not-Vermouth, not-Kir, not-dead-BO actually seen Conan in? Not many. The Conan was in the was in the newspaper for the Akemi case, so we will count that one even though it does make sense because Mouri was known to be on the case. The Shinkansen bombing is left unclear because the BO weren't around when Conan stopped the bomb and it is unknown if Conan went on the news because of it. Tequila died, so there was nobody to report Conan showed up. Vermouth and the soon to be dead Pisco were the only ones who saw Conan at the mourning party. Vermouth kept her Araide operation secret from much of the BO, so presumably no one but her knows about the busjack. The Itakura case was solved without the BO or news people around, so unless the news reports on Conan being there, no dice. Only Vermouth and the dead Calvados were savvy about Conan at the shipping yard showdown. The entire BO minus Kir saw Conan is FBI vs. Org. Only Rikumichi saw Conan in Clash and he died. Scar Akai has seen Conan only in not directly BO related cases, so I'm not counting him.
