Takagi and Date and the Notebook Promise (高木と伊達と手帳の約束 Takagi to Date to Techō no Yakusoku) is the 1109th and 1110th episode of the Detective Conan anime.

Part 1
Conan, Haibara and the Detective Boys are going home from the hospital after visiting Agasa, who is still recovering from his injury. While Agasa is still in the hospital, her friends sometime come to her house to cheer her up after some emotional moments. More importantly, Yukiko also came back to cook for her at that time, so things are looking good for her. On their way home, they encounter a robber who is being chased by Detective Takagi. As the robber charges toward the boys, Haibara associates him as Gin chases her. Fortunately, Sato comes to the rescue in time, much to the admiration of the Detective Boys.
Later, Takagi is about to write reports of the criminal’s arrest on his notebook, formerly belonging to Date, when he flips to the page containing character strings his senior wrote. These strings remind him of a case that both were trying to solve, a case that Date promised to make a man out of Takagi. Both of them were returning from a stakeout that, even though failed, did give them a paper containing character strings to decode. Suddenly, a car hit Date, leading to his death while Takagi witnessed in horror.
Takagi is snapped out of the flashback when Sato notices his expression; she gets a look at the strings before giving it to Conan, who wants to inspect it. Sato initially believes Takagi and Date were going to questionable locations since Date said he wanted to make a man out of the former, until Conan reassures them it was actually Café Poirot. At Poirot, Azusa welcomes all of them and offers glasses of water; Conan starts by explaining how he decoded the strings:
Takagi wonders if this message had something to do with Date’s intention to make the man out of him. Amuro joins in the conversation and assumes that the deceased officer wanted him to actually solve a case on his own, Sato shares his viewpoint as she assumes Date would give all credit to Takagi after they both solved the case. Haibara finds the detail of including the outfit in the message interesting, which leads Conan to discover some pieces of tape under the table they, Sato and Takagi are sitting. He asks Azusa if she noticed anyone or anything suspicious around the table the four are sitting, to which she recalls there was a gaming console stuck under that table – the console was playing a game on sleeping mode when she found it, and she has been keeping it ever since. While Azusa retrieves the device, the four use this information to deduce that the person who was supposed to be inside to receive the message did not show up to do so.
As Azusa comes out with the console, Takagi asks her if she saw anyone suspicious looking at the cafe. She mentions that every Sunday afternoon, there is always a black car that appears in front of the café for five minutes, and there is a yellow-haired boy who always makes some kind of hand gestures during those five minutes. The gesture he makes is to hold five fingers, then fold the thumb before folding the others, and he will do it again after reversing the sequence. Both Haibara and Conan recognize the gesture to be a signal for help originated from Canada.
Conan asks Takagi if Date was involved in a case with a concerning boy, to which he links it to the case that he left behind after his senior’s death. He recounts it in full detail to Sato and the kids: One year ago, an automaker vice president Pieere Cassel was working at the Japanese branch of his company when Alain, one of his two sons, was abducted while playing at a park with his friend. Pieere received a call demanding an outrageous ransom of 50 million yen. Even though Date moved to MPD ever since Matsuda’s death two years ago, he and Takagi were involved in the case because Alain’s older brother Jean called them out for help due to them living near Cassel's residence at the time.
Initially, since the Daisan gang was in a dispute with Cassel business over land use rights, it was believed that the kidnapper was one of their members. However, Date suspected its former gang leader Natsufusa Kidou because it was known he was in a huge debt at the time. They began to follow Kidou after his ransom call, but were almost in a dead end when they realized he was beaten severely. Fortunately, he left a paper containing character strings before being taken to the hospital, where he died, and Date copied the string into his notebook. Coincidentally, the kidnapper(s) was/were never heard from after the event, so we can safely assume Kidou was one of the perpetrators. That also means that Kidou's henchman had blindly followed his orders because the henchman had no idea about his death. It just so happens that the episode happens on a Sunday, but they only have 5 minutes left until the transaction time so calling the police won't be enough time - they must be the ones to rescue the boy.
Part 2
The specific plan was: Amuro would use Conan's voice changer to disguise himself as the other accomplice, and since the boy was a foreigner like Amuro, he would think that Amuro also worked for VP Cassel and send messages to the electronic game console. Then, after reading the instructions, Amuro would start taking the paper bag from the gap between the sofa and the floor and pretend to put money in it to fool him because his vision was blocked by the grass in front of the shop so he wouldn't notice. Then Amuro would pay and leave with the paper bag, and once Inspector Takagi also left with him, the kidnapper would go out and fall for the trick as planned. However, he has prepared a can of pepper spray to buy more time to run away, leaving the boy in the car.
Further information gathered reveal that the kidnapping location is the fourth floor of the Shiromino Apartment on Third Street, Lot 2, and the person closest to the location is Takagi, so he is assigned to be there. However, as soon as he reaches the fourth floor, the kidnapper manages to drag the boy down the elevator, forcing Takagi to go back down. Meanwhile, the boy resists because he couldn't see Alain, so the robber lies that the boy had been in a traffic accident and they are going to the hospital now, but Takagi gets down just in time and confirms Alain's condition. Will Takagi be able to save the boy?

Manga to anime changes
- Some dialogues not included in the anime:
- Sato suggests that she and Takagi have lunch at Poirot.
- Takagi mentions that Sato was working on different case when the kidnapping happened.
- The anime add the scene where Mitsuhiko suggests that they walk Haibara back to Agasa residence.
- In the manga, before capturing the robber, Sato crossed her arms in front. In the anime, she directly prepared to catch the robber.
- In the manga, after informing Conan about the gaming device, Azusa directly go to get it. In the anime, Conan has to ask Azusa what she did with the device before she go to get it.
- The anime did not include the scene where the Detective Boys ask Takagi the reason Date copying the code down in his notes instead of taking a picture with phone.
- The anime removes Detective Boys Badge usage by Sato when she asked Conan to get Alain from the car.

- This episode marks the final episode where Tohru Furuya voices Amuro. Since 2025, Amuro has been voiced by Takeshi Kusao.
