I also had acid-burn in high-school too. It was boiling HCl if I'm not mistaken, fortunately that it was just a very small spot. Another time I got hit by acid is in the same year, this time was H2SO4 89%, but since I was wearing a thick jacket I didn't get burned anywhere.

These kind of things also happen in many other places (if not everywhere), not only in China. About the "crowd mentality" case, in some circumstances, it is actually understandable. The reasons for that everyone has already pointed out, so there'll be no need for me to discuss it any further. Also, I believe that most of those witnesses really did want to help instead of being 100% cold-blooded, but after all, they're on the weak side. (And by saying "weak side" I think that everyone understands exactly what I'm talking about). And I pretty much agree with IU that in situations like this, we cannot just use the terms "black" and "white", "good" and "evil", "brave" and "timid".... to make judgements. Because it also depends on different circumstances. As for me, if I somehow became a witness, I would act something like these: - I meet a wanderer/mendicant on the street: Give him/her some money, but not very much, in case he/she is an imposter. - Someone's about to die accidentally (like almost get hit by a car or fall off): Save them, unless I'm not in a life-danger situation myself at the time. I've done this actually. Of course the "about-to-be-victim" was not very grateful, not much to my surprise, but I think I can get over that. - Someone who has already been injured but still gain consciousness: Help them. Call the ambulance/tell someone to call the ambulance if necessary. In this case, I'm not afraid of "getting in trouble" actually, even when that person ends up accusing me. - Someone who's been injured and lost consciousness/died: In this case, "crowd mentality". Call me a coward, but that is what I will do, unless I'm the only one there of course. I can call the ambulance, but as for the police, NO. - Someone who's trying to commit suicide: First, advise him/her. If he/she listens to me, that's a good thing. If not, let him/her die, that's none of my business. Cold-blooded, isn't it ? But let me tell you about this one article that I've read about (Sorry, I don't feel like saying the exact place and time here). There was this guy who wanted to kill himself (I forget about the motive though), and an old couple saved him. He ended up holding a grudge against the couple and attacked them with acid; then committed suicide again. The story ended up with the old couple not only wasted their good deed, but also suffered painfully for it as well.

I know, but what I meant is that maybe at the time, Scar Akai was still busy trying to figure out who'd been watching him (Okiya) and what was he up to, therefore he might not have cared much about Kogoro (after all SA did text-message him so there was not many reasons to pay much attention to the case/deduction). Btw, after reading the latest file, it actually turns out that working as a waiter is really Amuro's part-time job (or one of them perhaps), and he told the wife to choose that restaurant because he works there. So I don't think that Tooru "poses" as a waiter at all (the very first line of that Wiki page). At least that's how DCTP translated it.

Well, in the latest file, that Amuro guy has been showing too much skills of inspection and information gathering for all we know. He even knows about the fact that they were rescued in the fire, then who was adopted first, and who stayed at the church longer. That is quite impressive I must say, even for a detective. Also, according to DCTP's translation, it seems that being a waiter is just another part-time job of his; and I also doubt that he, as a detective, has so many clients. Which matches the fact that most of the time he's been doing something else... I can't wait to see something interesting will happen between Conan and Amuro.

I agree with Kyuu that it would be easier if Ran just uses his fingerprint(s), rather than DNA. But I'm not even sure whether she does have a suspicion or not. Her emotional expression at the time is hard to judge. And once again, if Ran really is taking an interest, it would be much wiser of her not to tell Conan.

I find that possibility rather likely to happen, but also ironic at the same time. Okay, so far, the most suitable motive to explain Bourbon's serious hatred towards Akai is this whole Akemi thing. Bourbon seems to hold a grudge against Akai because he took advantage of her (which lead to her death). But now, Bourbon also uses another girl for his own gain, which doesn't make him any better than his enemy. And not the mention that Sera might also have been/will be in love with him (another Gundam preference). What happens after that is most likely to be tragical... The more I think about it, the more ironic it seems. However, I still have to agree that the possibility of this scenario is very high. P/S: I really hope that Gosho won't pair Sera with Tooru (whether it's a one-way-love or not), despite whatever happened in Gundam. I also want Tooru dead, but not now, maybe near the end.....
