Season 16

The sixteenth season of the Detective Conan anime consists of the episodes aired in the year 2011.

It begun airing in January 8, 2011 and finished airing on December 17, 2011, with a total of 40 episodes. There are 23 manga-adapted episodes and 17 anime-original episodes. There were breaks totaling to 3 weeks, with remastered reruns broadcast for 5 weeks. Magic Kaito: Kid the Phantom Thief continues to premiere its specials for 5 weeks.

While he police begin to search for the criminal, the case angers Megure, and puts him on the breaking point. Conan and Kogoro, along with Ran and Sonoko, are on the scene with Megure, as is Kiyonaga Matsumoto. Megure is acting very strangely, and keeps thinking about a case from the past... Whenever the past serial killer case is mentioned, Megure immediately stiffens up, and becomes all business. Ran and Sonoko are shopping for a sweater for Makoto and discuss about their love lives and it is hinted that Ran likes Shinichi and she wants to tell him how she feels but is afraid of his answer(how he feels about her) it is then revealed to us that Conan was standing next to them hearing the entire conversation and becomes very embarrassed and red-faced(which is super cute!) And then runs off to look for Kogoro Brief pieces of Megure's past are hinted and shown.

Sonoko is now a target! Conan solves the case, but when they discover the attacker, they learn that he is in the mall, and Sonoko is his latest target. Conan and Megure hunt for him, but Conan goes to the wrong place. Megure catches the culprit before he could hurt Sonoko, and opens a very big wound on his head. Matsumoto reveals the truth about Megure's past. In the past a man was attacking girls with long skirts and a girl proposed to be bait but was badly injured along with Megure, leaving scars on both of them. The girl is revealed to be Megure's wife. Ran, Kogoro, and Conan all finally meet her when they visit Megure in the hospital. Midori Megure's first appearance. Megure saves Sonoko from the strange attacker, taking a baseball bat to the face, re-opening his scar. Megure explodes at the attacker. We learn that Midori and Juzo met each other when Midori played the role of someone who would look like someone the past serial killer would attack. After she gets attacked for real, Megure tries to save her, both of them being injured. They both fall in love with each other afterwards. The full story of Megure's past is finally revealed, as well as the reason why he always wears a hat, never wanting to take it off.

Sumiko Kobayashi is called to be a jury for a murder Tadashi Ishigaki. Toshio Iwamatsu, a burglar who broke into Ishigaki's home, is held accounted for the murder and Eri Kisaki is assigned as his attorney and Reiko Kujo acts as the prosecutor. Kogoro, Ran, and Conan attend the hearing where Ishigaki's housemaid and brother-in-law deliver their testimonies of discovering the body. Unable to find the murder weapon, the court ends without a decision and will resume the day after. During the session, Sumiko notes aloud that the painting in Ishigaki's room is upside down prompting Kogoro and Conan to investigate the room. Inside the painting, they find a document stating Iwamatsu borrowed money from Ishigaki. Conan deduces the culprit took a document and placed the painting upside down in his rush and discovers that a vase in the room is missing after Ishigaki's murder.

Due to the housemaid's behavior, Conan pressures the housemaid about the vase. That night, Kogoro and Conan ambush her in the middle of returning the vase to the crime scene. The next day, court resumes and Reiko presents the documents pertaining Ishigaki's burrowed money and the murder weapon found in a distant pound. Eri calls the maid up as a witness who explains she found the vase at a garbage collection point. Eri then calls upon Kogoro whom Conan tranquilizes and reveals the culprit to be the brother-in-law, Toru Tsukano. Conan explains that after Tsukano murdered Ishigaki, he took a document, hunt up the painting, and hid behind the door as Iwamatsu entered the room and knocks the vase to Tsukano's feet. Tsukano hides the knife and gloves inside the vase and leaves the vase at the garbage collection point and establish and alibi. He then afterwards placed the knife in the park and disposes the gloves he used to commit the murder. As evidence, a bloody fingerprint is found in the vase. Tsukano confesses and reveals he embezzled money from Ishigaki whom took his sister's deed to a land as a result and enraging Tsukano to murder him. In the end Iwamatsu is cleared of murder charges and Tsukano will be trailed for murder.

Kogoro, Ran and Conan are invited to the sweet maker's White Day Party. Urai; the present of the company along with his wife, Hoshie; the vice president of the company invites them to the party. Urai and Hoshie invite the famous "Sleeping Kogoro" to thank him for co-operation in the commercial promoting the chocolate. While there, the present of the company is murdered. The culprit tried to make it look like a suicide but Conan thinks it was a homicide. Conan has a feeling that the culprit is the wife, Hoshie; will Conan be able to prove it though? While reading Ran's palm, Hoshie suggests Ran and Shinichi will get together at the end of a dramatic event.

Conan finds proof that this case is not a suicide but a homicide. Although the murderer hid and disposed of the evidence really well; they eventually found proof that can identify the murderer. Conan; using "Sleeping Kogoro" reveals the trick to the case and the murderer. The murder is in fact the wife, Hoshie. It is revealed that she killed him because he made her former boyfriend commit suicide. After the case; Juzo gives a call to Midori to get her to find her White Day Gift, Sato finds Takagi's chocolate in the glove compartment, Kobayashi receives Shiratori's gifts, Eri eats Kogoro's chocolate and Ran is disappointed that Shinichi did not give her a White Day Present when Sonoko got one from Makoto. When she looks in the mail box and thinks it is mail for Kogoro; it turns out to be cough drops from Shinichi. Midori, Sato, Sumiko, Eri, Sonoko, and Ran each receive White Day gifts from Juzo, Takagi, Shiratori, Kogoro, Makoto, and Shinichi.

The teacher of the Detective Boys decides to give the class a mental test. Conan is called by the teacher so the class must solve it without him. They solve it with the help of two silent out-casted students. It turns out it was a plan to include the new students so they feel more involved. Note: No Conan's Hint was given for this episode because of uncertainty of Conan's next airdate likely due to the March 2011 Tsunami. First appearance of Maria Higashio.

Heiji and Kazuha arrive at the Mouri Detective agency revealing he was hired by a man named Shinichi Inubushi, one of the eight illegitimate children of the rich Tsunechika Inubushi. After Tsunechika's death, the health of his wife, Satomi, begins to fail and subsequently two of the illegitimate children are murdered. Believing the murderer is after the inheritance, Shinichi surrenders his share and takes up his mother's surname, Kudo, and has Heiji investigate the murders. Heiji and Conan drop by Kudo's home only to find out from his personal care assistant, Funae Abukawa, that he is asleep. After half an hour, they discover Kudo dead from Carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a single charcoal burner. Their investigation reveals Abukawa is the murderer, as Kudo's body revealed he died much earlier and a single charcoal burner would take too long to fill the entire room. Abukawa confesses to have set up the crime scene but explains she found Kudo dead in his closet and was threatened by the murderer to cover that fact. Heiji and Conan discover a pink pearl in Kudo's mouth and perceive it as a dying message to indicate the murderer.

Conan and Heiji decide to pay a visit to the Inubushi Castle along with Kogoro, Ran and Kazuha to find out more about the dying message. On the way there, they almost drive off a cliff but they are warned by Miyuki Inubushi; one of the adopted children and they stopped just in time. Miyuki leads them to the house where they meet three more of the eight adopted children: Takako Inubushi, Tomoaki Inubushi and Yoshiya Inubushi. They also hear about one of the myths of a blazed demon dog that has cursed the Inubushi Castle. The myth states that one of the ancestors burned a dog alive when the only daughter of the Inubushi family went missing. They searched for her but when the Inubushi dog came back with the daughter in it's jaws, injured and near death; the master of the house whipped the dog endlessly and then set it on fire. But when the daughter regained consciousness, she told the master that the dog saved her as she was lost in the mountains and collapsed. But he regretted his actions and made proper grave for the dog; the next day, there was a fire and the only one that did not make it out of the fire was the master. Since then, it was said that the castle has been cursed. When Conan, Heiji, Kogoro, Ran, Kazuha and Miyuki go to see the grave of the demon dog below the cliff, Saki, one of the adopted children; goes over the cliff with her bicycle and falls right in front of them and claims that she was chased by a fiery demon dog, she dies later because of this. They all find out that near the murders of the other children, there were some sort of spheres near by so Conan and Heiji go to investigate.

Heiji, Conan, Mouri and Detective Yamamura discovered that before Saki died, there was a call place from the Inubushi Castle. Ran and Kazuha decide to help out around the house so Miyuki asks them to feed the dog Hachi; just then, the blazed demon dog appears. The blazed demon dog begins to chase Ran and Kazuha; luckily, they were able to get in the house before it caught up. Back at the crime scene of the cliff, Heiji and Conan determine that the marble and the other spheres at the crime scene had nothing to do with the case. After that, Heiji gets a call from Kazuha who tells him what had happened. They realize that the dog maybe raise at a cabin in the forest. Just then, Tomoaki, another adopted child; gets pounced on by the demon dog.

Miyuki informed Conan and Heiji about the story of how are they named, the two detective think that there is some mystery behind those names that will lead in solving the case. Conan and Heiji found an evidence in the place where Tomoaki got pounced by the demon dog. While Conan, Heiji, Kazuha and Ran are eating they're dinner they learned that Satomi collapsed, when the party arrived in the room where Satomi is they found prayer beads that leads Conan and Heiji to another clue in solving the case. In the middle of the night while everybody is resting Ran asked Kazuha to accompany her to the toilet, still afraid of the demon dog. Mouri mocks Ran that she is not a child anymore so she should go to the toilet alone. Ran and Kazuha told Mouri about how Conan and Heiji already know who is the suspect among the adopted children. When Ran and Kazuha told Mouri that Conan and Heiji told them that Satomi deliberately got out of her futon and get the prayer beads and how she removed the other beads so that only eight would remain, the folklore during the Edo period named, Nansou Satomi Hakkenden came to his mind and told the two ladies about how it is connected with the adopted children's names. Learning that Miyuki might be the suspect both Kazuha and Ran went to Heiji and Con's futon only to learn that they are not there. When they left their room they learned that Miyuki left the house leaving behind a letter that she would atone for the killings that she've done. All them looked for Miyuki and arrived at the cabin that they previously found and saw Miyuki's motorcycle there. The demon dog later appeared and charged towards the cabin but Conan bravely stands on its path. They later learned that it is just an ordinary dog dressed in a cloth called "imitation fire". Later Con and Heiji deduced that Tomoaki is the culprit, faking his accident with the demon dog and framing Miyuki as the culprit. Tomoaki later admits to his crime and told everyone that it was all because of the inheritance.♫

Conan,Haibara and the detective boys are in the mountains for a bamboo-shoot hunting trip but the Professor's car breaks down so they were left waiting in the mountains,later the children take shelter in a nearby place full of villas spot all of a sudden they hear the sound of a piano from one of the villas playing Bach's Air in G major,they enter the house as it was left unlocked and find the piano that was playing the music,they stumble across a strange notebook that talks about keeping someone prisoner in the villa they are in.The children now realize they are not alone and that the kidnapper might still be in the house.So Conan and the DB decide to search for the kidnapped boy. Can Conan reveal the mystery of this villa and find the kidnapped boy?

Without anyway of contacting anyone for help will the children escape?Can Conan solve the mystery before the culprit gets to the children?

Ran, Conan and Kogoro were invited to London by an old, rich woman, Diana, for finding her cat Venus. Conan had a problem in his passport so Haibara gave him 2 antidote for going and returning from London he also told Ran that he is coming on next flight with Professor Agasa. After they arrived to London they went to Sherlock Holmes Museum, outside Conan met a boy named Apollo brother of Minerva Glass known as the Grass Court Queen. Apollo wants to see Sherlock Holmes to solve a code, given to him by a strange man, that will prevent a person being murdered. Conan told the boy that he is Holmes Apprentice and offer to solve the code. First appearances of Minerva Glass, and Apollo Glass. Conan receives two antidotes from Ai so he can use his passport to go and return from London.

The code causes Conan, Ran, Kogoro and the Professor to separate. Ran is wondering of she should call Shinichi for help but decides not to because it would be awkward since she yelled at him. In front of the Sherlock Holmes statue, she waits for Kogoro but while she is waiting; she meets a woman who turns out to Minerva Glass; the famous tennis player. Minerva was wondering if Ran was having love troubles and she gives her advice about how love is like tennis. In tennis, Love is 0 no matter how many times you add 0 you lose miserably. Because Conan is too busy solving the code and not coming to dinner, Ran calls Shinichi for help. When Ran is reading the riddle the Big Ben rings, revealing that Shinichi is in London. Conan ran but was cornered in a phone booth. He then take the antidote which is for his trip home and confront Ran as Shinichi. Conan takes the pill that was supposed to make him go home and turns into Shinichi after a forced moment from Ran. Ran learns from a woman that "love is zero". Shinichi was dramatically "forced" to confess his love to Ran.(Shown later in Episode 621)

Back at the hotel, Shinichi (using the voice of Conan), said that he has a cold and told Kogoro and Ran to break the riddle. Ran and Kogoro are able to find and solve some of the lines in the code. Shinichi and the Professor are able to research online about the suspect who supposedly is going to commit the crime; Sabara Hades. Hades is the person who bombed the hospital in London regarding the riddles. Because of Ran's shyness, Kogoro calls Shinichi via Ran's cellphone asking for help because the riddle involves Sherlock Holmes. Along the way, they find 4 letters and one letter is repeated because of the riddle, letter 'A', forming the word "SATAN" and Shinichi turned back to Conan, inconveniently. Shinichi’s antidote wears off.

Ran, Kogoro and Apollo have now been directed to go to an area in London named Elephant and Castle. There they see a man with brief case that says "Identity", Shinichi says it is related to one of the first Sherlock Holmes books written. Following Shinichi's instructions; they find the letter "U". It is revealed that the code is actually the word "SATURN". With this they deduce that some murder will happen on Saturday. The next day; Kogoro, Ran, the Professor and Conan who is now feeling better from his cold, connect the places on the map to reveal a demented shape of a tennis racket. This leads them to the Wimbldon match, and concludes that Hades' target is the Glass Court Queen, Minerva Glass. Minerva Glass is now playing her matching and asking for help. Will Conan be able to save her? The code has been broken!!! The letters formed the word "SATURN".

Minerva continues to lose the game when Conan realizes that she is serving in a particular pattern. She is actually using her serves to create a message in braille. She keeps hitting the word "HELP". Conan realizes this and says he is Holmes's Apprentice and he is here to help her. She then starts serving her real message. She writes out, "GAME SET DEATH MOM". Conan deduces that Hades is in fact after Minerva's mom and not Minerva herself. Now, Conan has to find Hades before the game ends or he will blow up a bomb and kill Minerva's mother. Will he be able to do it before the time runs out?

With the help of Minerva, Conan is able to locate Hades. The way he uses to locate him is by asking Minerva to give her opponent the championship point, after that her wanted her to stretch the rally to be really long so that the audience follows the ball and Hades who is only watching Minerva's mother will not follow. When the rally ends with the ball on Minerva's side; everyone believes she has lose until she challenges the umpire and it turns out the ball is out and Minerva is still in the game. Hades is finally captured by the police with the assistance of Minerva and Conan. Later it is revealed that Shinichi's parents are in London because Haibara asked them to bring Shinichi another antidote because she knew he would use it before he came back. Minerva ends up winning the match and Ran sends her a text about what Shinichi said "It is true that in tennis Love is 0 but 0 is where everything starts and without it, nothing would be born if they didn't depart from there and nothing would be acheived." It also revealed the confession between Shinichi and Ran in episode 617. Shinichi receives another antidote from his mom. Shinichi reveals that what the woman (Minerva Glass) said means zero is where every love starts.

The Detective Boys decide to play hide and seek inside an abandoned building . Genta hears a strange knocking that Conan deduces is emergency code 252 - a plea for rescue. While searching through the building, they stumble upon two men, Who claim that they are demolishing workers and the noise was due to the hammers. Conan notices they are fakes and are really holding someone hostage in the building somewhere. The Detective Boys decided to look for the hostage and capture the culprits but they go through a lot of trouble and threatening from the culprits who overheard their plan. Conan (Shinichi) recalls his "indirect" confession to Ran in London   Events from the London arc are mentioned.

The detectives from the police department come to Teitan Elementary School to spread awareness on crimes against children, while there Kazunobu Chiba runs into the Detective Boys and tells them the story about tells them the story about his first love, Conan and the detective boys realize that his love letter is replied to in the form of a video letter and so they investigate its whereabouts and uncover the message that was left by the mystery girl of Chiba's dreams. First appearance of grown up Naeko Miike. We find out the identity of Detective Chiba's first love.   Detective Chiba Kobayashi-sensei and Shinichi are all students of Teitan Elementary School.

Ran,Conan and Sonoko go to Beika University festival where Kogoro is an alma mater, where Ran tells Sonoko an important piece of development. While there, Ran,Sonoko and Conan meet a few students who build a haunted house exhibit who want to test the accuracy of their corpses in front of a real detective(Kogoro) but while in the haunted house, a real corpse is found among the mannequins. Ran tells Sonoko that Shinichi confessed to her in London. Sonoko tells Ran that she should give a reply to Shinichi's confession or he won't understand her feelings for him, hearing this Conan(Shinichi) says he definitely got the message back then. Sonoko encourages Ran to confess her feelings for Ran as soon as she can after clearing the haunted house exhibit, but Ran is so scared she keeps hugging Conan super tight the entire time. Events of the London arc are remembered.

Conan, Ran, Sonoko and the Detective Boys are invited to an island for free diving lessons. While exploring the island, they find a filming crew lead and directed by Yuya Miyasaka, an actor who lost his fame due to assault causing the drama he starred in to cancel. While they watch, they see that Miyasaka physically harrases many of the crew members. It starts to rain soon after and every one returns to the resort, but Miyasaka is found murdered later on in his hotel room, where Conan and the others are also staying.

Conan and the others leave the hotel, and find that Takayama fell off a cliff. After watchnig the video recording of the discovery of the body which Takayama recorded with his camera, Conan is able to understand who the culprit is, and tranquilizes Sonoko.

Meanwhile, as Conan explores the Red Leaf Palace with Nakakita, he finds evidence that someone in the palace wants to kill in order to gain the inheritance. Later, Katayose is found dead after consuming poison in his tea.
