OVAs

This article includes a list of various OVA's (Original video animation) released for the anime Detective Conan. This list includes Shonen Sunday releases, Magic File releases, Gosho Aoyama Short Stories, as well as other releases. They can also be called OAVs.

Regular OVAs

Regular OVAs are released for a limited time through application service via Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine. The first 5 OVAs were released in VHS format, later ones were released in DVD format. First 9 OVAs were contained in DVD collection titled "Secret File".

Conan has begun reading a manga series that he has borrowed from Mitsuhiko. Later, Kaitou Kid plans to steal a sword treasured by the Mine family, from Gosho Aoyama's Yaiba manga. But Conan begins to notice some strange oddities in this case... It is contained in Secret File Vol.1 First appearance of Akako Koizumi. This was originally a Magic Kaito chapter that's now modified to include all of Aoyama's main stars.
2	16 Suspects!?	January 16, 2002
Conan, Ran, Kogoro, and many of their friends, are invited to Shiratori's villa for a gathering and a small party. Shiratori shows off his prized wine, including his most expensive vintage, for later service to his guests. However, this very wine is later found smashed, and no one knows who among the 16 guests is the culprit. It is contained in Secret File Vol.1 Heiji leaves Ran and Conan alone to remember happy times they've had at the Kudo's villa in the same area.
3	Conan, Heiji, and the Vanished Boy	March 12, 2003
Conan and Ran visit Kazuha and Heiji in Osaka, and Conan meets three people who look a lot like the Detective Boys, but only with some changes in looks and character. They are looking for a friend of theirs who has gone missing. Can Conan and Heiji find the boy before something bad happens to him? It is contained in Secret File Vol.1
4	Conan, Kid, and the Crystal Mother	March 3, 2004
Conan and Ran are on a train, and Inspector Ginzo Nakamori, Kaito Kuroba, and Aoko Nakamori are all on the same train. Conan hears that Ginzo is there to stop the Kaitou Kid from stealing a rare crystal jewel. Can Kaitou really steal the jewel with Aoko on the same train as him, and what happens when Conan learns that another person is trying to steal the jewel for themselves? It is contained in Secret File Vol.2 First appearance of Snake and Rose. Aoko and Kaito share some good chemistry while in the dining car. This was based on a Magic Kaito chapter.
5	The Target is Kogoro!! The Detective Boys' Secret Report	March 9, 2005
The Detective Boys' project in school is to follow someone with a job around, and present a report to their class. The Detective Boys choose Kogoro Mouri, who is rather unwilling to contribute to the class project. But when a simple observation turns into a kidnapping and blackmail case, Kogoro demonstrates a rare and inspiring air of professionalism. It is contained in Secret File Vol.2
6	Follow the Vanished Diamond! Conan & Heiji vs. Kid!	March 15, 2006
A diamond thief accidentally calls the Mouri Detective Agency, and calls Conan. The thief sounds exactly like Heiji, only with no Kansai accent, so Conan calls Heiji over to their home to call everyone with a number similar to theirs, to see if anyone responds. After meeting up with Inspector Ginzo Nakamori, Heiji, Conan, and Ginzo all confront the person who lost the diamond, and then chase after the real thief. But what happens if there is also ANOTHER person looking for the diamond? It is contained in Secret File Vol.3 In this episode, Nakamori's police specialty field - fraud cases - is revealed. Nakamori and Kid have guest star appearances in this episode.
7	A Challenge from Agasa! Agasa vs. Conan and the Detective Boys	March 14, 2007
Professor Agasa has a challenge that he has written up for the Detective Boys, and he jokingly pretends that he is kidnapped. However, thinks take a bad turn when he is really kidnapped, and Conan and the Detective Boys do their best to find out where he is. However, their chances are very low as Agasa's glasses are gone, so he cannot see all that well when describing the things around him. It is contained in Secret File Vol.3
8	The Casebook of Female High-School Detective Sonoko Suzuki	March 12, 2008
Sonoko volunteers to write and direct a play for her local church's charity, wanting to also be the star of the play. She decides to make it a murder mystery, where she outsmarts Kogoro. However, after telling a portion of the play to Ran, Conan, and the Detective Boys, Haibara finds a lot of flaws in the plot, including a serious lack of evidence which would expose the murderer. Can Conan and the Detective Boys help Sonoko write her play by that night? Also, what happens when Ran decides to call a certain famous high school detective for advice? It is contained in Secret File Vol.4 In Ran's fantasy, she dreams of Shinichi finally returning to her.
9	The Stranger from Ten Years Later	April 15, 2009
Conan has a cold, and he is stuck in bed, sick, and unable to go to school. While resting, he overhears Sonoko telling Ran to dump Shinichi and date someone else, because he is never around. Conan gets angry and goes to Agasa's house, where Haibara announces that she has an antidote for him to try out. He takes it and passes out, but when he awakes, he finds that not only he, but also the world around him has aged 10 years, and that Ran is considering marriage to Tomoaki Araide. It is contained in Secret File Vol.4 Ran refuses Araide's proposal because she is still waiting for Shinichi.
10	Kid in Trap Island	April 14, 2010
Kid is on his latest heist on Koyakejima Island when the Detective Boys knock him out of the sky and crashes to a tree in a forest. Mistaken as Shinichi Kudo by Genta, Ayumi, and Mitsuhiko, he must go with the kids to capture Kid (i.e. himself). But unexpected things happen, and the foursome ends up stumbling upon a big discovery. It is contained in no Secret File yet. Kid appears in his real identity of Kaito Kuroba. Also, Kaito's fear of fish is brought up!
11	A Secret Order From London	April 13, 2011
While Conan/Shinichi, Professor Agasa, Ran and her father travel to London, Haibara spends her days at Ayumi's home. But while the two girls prepare for a shopping trip, Mitsuhiko makes a startling discovery in one of his sister's old fashion magazines...while the girls have a sinister, black-clad pursuer on their heels. And what has Subaru Okiya to do with all this? It is contained in no Secret File yet. A new personal side of Ai is revealed.
12	The Miracle of Excalibur	April 11, 2012
Agasa and a friend of his, who coaches a baseball team, come up with a plan to cheer up the only girl on the team after being continuously bullied by the boys. Conan and Haibara are with them. It is contained in no Secret File yet.

Special OVAs

Magic File and Bonus File

MAGIC FILE and BONUS FILE are both movie-related DVDs sold exclusively at the Japanese convenience store chain 7-Eleven. The first one released in 2007 only contains old episodes, while the others released from 2008 to 2012 have OVA linked to the movies.

2	Magic File 2: Shinichi Kudo, The Case of the Mysterious Wall and the Black Lab	April 19, 2008
Shinichi Kudo is playing soccer in the park. While there, he sees a man who is trying to confirm his alibi for when his Grandmother was murdered, as he was drunk and passed out in the park at the time, but has no one that can verify his alibi, and he is the prime suspect. Shinichi decides to help. Due getting so concentrated in this case, Shinichi gets into a big fight with Ran Mouri, the longest fight they've ever been in. After Shinichi helps solve the case, both him and Ran and shown walking home from school, both wanting to end the fighting. They both see cherry blossom's, and hear someone sing "Amazing Grace", which ends the week long fight between the two. And Conan narrates how he didn't realize that song was going how this will help in a case 3 years later.
3	Magic File 3: Shinichi and Ran, Memories of Mahjong Tiles and Tanabata	April 18, 2009
Kogoro is playing mahjong with his friends, while Conan watches him. After Kogoro embarrasses himself and loses, Conan relays the story to Agasa, Haibara, and the Detective Boys. The Detective Boys are then taught by Conan, Haibara, and Agasa, the rules of mahjong. The next day, Conan and Ran both try to help Kogoro in winning, to no avail. Ran and Conan play with other unused mahjong tiles. One of Kogoro's friends who is not playing brings in a bamboo tree, which is used in Tanabata festivals, and this leads Ran to remembering an old Tanabata festival from when her and Shinichi were younger. Ran relays a story to both Conan and Kogoro's friend, about how she wished that Eri and Kogoro would get back together, and her wish had indeed came true, for only one day, before they fought again. A mean kid from her class makes fun of Ran for having separated parents, and while Sonoko comes to Ran's aid, Shinichi just silently listens. Later, he bribes the kid with a photo of Ran (The boy had a crush on her,) to help show Eri the card with Ran's wish on it, as a way for the boy to make up for how he treated her. After the story, a man at the mahjong game gets angry and leaves, thinking that Kogoro has left a message for him with unused tiles. This leads to Conan narrating about how he remembers a case involving a serial killer and mahjong tiles. The next day, Conan agrees to go bug hunting with the Detective Boys.
4	Magic File 4: The Osaka Okonomiyaki Odyssey	April 17, 2010
Heiji narrates that after the day of the airship hijacking incident, Conan, Heiji, and Kazuha attempt to head to an okonomiyaki restaurant before Conan has to leave Osaka. After getting past a talkative neighbor, a group of students challenging Heiji's deduction abilities, and crossing a busy street, the three run into a woman who asks them to take care of her baby, Kaoru. After the women disappears for a long period of time, Heiji realizes that the baby wearing female clothing is actually a boy and deduces that the woman kidnapped the infant. The woman soon returns and explains she found her missing husband, Hikaru, and had to chase him down. Hikaru explains he left their home after learning his Kaoru was not his. Conan and Heiji realize whats going on when that the names Hikaru and Kaoru were characters from the book The Tale of Genji. Heiji explains that the Hikaru must have overheard his wife say that in the book, Kaoru is not Hikaru Genji's son. After sorting out the misunderstanding, the three continue on their trip until Conan receives a phone call from Ran telling him they have to leave thirty minutes earlier than expected and thus forces Conan to leave without eating.
5	Magic File 5: Niigata~Tokyo Souvenir Capriccio	April 16, 2011
After the snow kingdom trip, the Detective Boys and Sonoko realize their gifts for the others were switched. Heiji who is visiting Conan, goes over the returning trip in order to deduce when the switch occurred. After the retelling, Sonoko reveals she marked her box the moment she left the store and causes them to realize the souvenir shop owner mistakenly switched their gifts. As Heiji prepares to leave, he notices Kogoro and Ran's gifts for Shinichi and Yoko then exchanges the labels as a prank to Conan.
6	Bonus File 1: Flower of Fantasista	April 14, 2012
A week after losing a close match in their middle school soccer championships, Shinichi's team finds a mysterious list of written criticisms in their teamroom, critiquing each member on their skills. Shinichi is able to discover the 'culprit', but is there something else the creator wishes to do?

Gosho Aoyama's Collection of Short Stories

This OVA are adapated from Gosho Aoyama's Collection of Short Stories. There are 2 parts of the OVA, each with 3 episodes. The first part was aired by Yomiuri TV on December 24, 1998, before released in VHS on March 17, 1999. The second part was released directed in VHS on December 22, 1999.

3	The Santa Claus of Summer	December 24, 1998
Keisuke Hara, recently dumped by his girlfriend, accidentally receives an activation card disguised as a telephone card for a weaponized satellite system. Keisuke accidentally triggers a countdown of 24 hours for the satellite when he tries leaving a pager message for his ex-girlfriend. Much to the actual owner of the card's dismay, Keisuke was drunk at the time and doesn't remember what he set the passcode number as. Can the man make Keisuke remember before Earth is destroyed by the satellite?
4	Detective George's Mini-Mini Big Strategy	December 22, 1999
A girl is being chased by some mysterious men clothed in black. In desperation, she runs up the fire escape to a building and coincidentally finds a detective agency belonging to George Kirishima. George is no ordinary detective. He's extremely small, and able to stand on the girl's shoulder without much burden. When the mysterious men chase break into the agency, George helps the girl escape just in time using a secret trapdoor in his bathroom. Who are these mysterious men? Who sent them, and what is the girl's role?
5	The Ten Planets in the Night Sky	December 22, 1999
There is trouble brewing at the publishing magazine office where Yusaku Kudo works... he is nowhere to be found! Yukiko realizes that he must have done this on purpose, and tries to decipher the clues Yusaku has left behind. Can Yukiko figure out Yusaku's whereabouts? Also, is her little baby son, Shinichi, trying to give her clues?
6	Play It Again	December 22, 1999
Sanjuro Tsurugi, an 80 year old man, was granted his wish to be younger by a mystical cherry blossom tree. While enjoying his youth the second time around, he must use his powerful secret sword technique to protect his granddaughter from a player.
Extra	The Mysterious Murder Plan (The Making of Conan)	December 22, 1999
The Detective Boys are walking along and overhear some people talking about a murder plan, and a weapon. They tell Conan, whom reassures them that nothing is wrong via the badge. They go through the building where the "suspects" are at, and learn about the ways that Detective Conan episodes are created, and the way the voice actors provide their voices, as well as view the meeting room where the murders and plots are planned out. After they finally understand what is going on, they meet Conan outside of the building, for he has a case for them!
