Plot overview

The Fated Blue Birthday

When Snake and his boss fail to kill Kaitou Kid, their boss reprimands his/her deputy through a video chat and orders him to contact Spider.

The Splendid Rivals

He comes to Japan and attempts to kill Kaitou Kid at a heist. He uses his illusion generating machinery to create a nightmarish realm which Kaitou Kid cannot escape. Saguru manages to snap Kaitou Kid out of his trance before he could finish Kid off. He then turns his attention to Saguru. The distraction gives Kaitou Kid the chance to destroy his illusion generating machinery and force him to flee.

The Secret of the Red Tear

Saguru looks at a magazine saying that he has returned to Europe for show tour and said that he should not be bothering Kaitou Kid during this time.

The Witch, the Detective, and the Phantom Thief

He comes back to Japan attempting on Kaitou Kid again. After Akako disguised as Kid steals the gem and flies away, he decides to manipulate Akako with his illusions and hypnotize her to kill Kid. He engaged a short battle with Kid and Saguru came out saying that his real identity is the famous illusionist Gunter von Goldberg II, with unknown nationality, unknown age and his name is not his real name and Saguru is determined to unravel his true identity. He then dropped a smoke bomb and escaped telling Kid that they will meet again.

The Tearful Crystal Mother

He and Snake board the Royal Express to steal the Crystal Mother from the Queen of Ingram and kill Kaitou Kid. He knocks out Phillip's nanny, Alice, and disguises himself as her. Snake orders him to not get in his way and to let him take care of everything. He disguised as Alice lures Phillip, who wanted to retrieve the Crystal Mother, to the top of the train where Kid had hidden and then threatens Phillip to force Kid to hand over the jewel. When climbing atop the train, Snake tells him to leave and let him take care of the rest. He does as Snake tells him and vanishes.

Relationships analysis

Saguru Hakuba

He and Saguru Hakuba have some sort of rivalry. He sees Saguru as a nuisance and attempts to murder him offhand. Saguru is disturbed by him and his use of illusions to break the mind of his opponents. Saguru knows the assassin's identity is the stage performer Gunter von Goldberg II.

Trivia

  • The animators redesigned his look between the silhouette shown after the Blue Birthday heist and his current appearance. In the official DVD release, the silhouette was directly replaced with his later design.
  • During his shows, there was a big spider which hints out that he is Spider, the assassin.
  • Despite not having a color in his name, his pseudonym, "Goldburg", contains "Gold".
  • He was drinking some sort of alcohol from a bottle called "spider", then a reference to his codename.
