Situation
Haibara and Mitsuhiko are waiting for Conan, Ayumi, and Genta to arrive so that Mitsuhiko can properly read his Holmes story The Adventure of the Abbey Grange for the first time with his friends. As the kids are walking on the road, a cat stops by Haibara, which catches Mitsuhiko’s attention as well. The cat takes the two to a room, a room where another man is terrified because of a corpse. It takes much longer than usual for the police to know the corpse belongs to Daiki Fujinai.
Before knowing the identity of the man, the police examine the scene and notice that some of the household’s belongings have been. In addition, there are three used wine glasses on the table, suggesting that the group of thieves were celebrating from hitting the jackpot, despite having to eliminate one of their members.
The police decide to interrogate the man who was terrified earlier, Tomohiro Nojima. Nojima is a long-time fan of Toichiro Hakozaki, the owner of the residence, and both of them are acquainted with each other. About Hakozaki, Nojima mentions he is currently taking a break from column writing due to exhaustion, he has a favorite writing tool - fountain pen, and he does not own a smartphone. The reason Nojima was in the room is because he received a call from Hakozaki, asking if he could bring the fountain pen to Hakozaki. In addition, Hakozaki gave him proper guidance to enter the house and told him that he can take his time: "To enter the house, look for the potted plant at the entrance, you will find my spare key." – We can’t confirm if Hakozaki said that to Nojima, but he meant it. However, Nojima found the door not shut when he arrived, so he entered directly, which led to the scene we saw earlier in the episode.
Outside, Conan, Haibara, and the Detective Boys, having heard everything outside, begin to discuss certain details of the case. While the other members of the Detective Boys are off-screen, Conan follows Nojima, as he is exploring Hakozaki’s working space for the first time. Then Conan goes out somewhere and finds a schedule[1]:
- Burnable trash is collected on Monday/Thursday.
- Non-burnable trash is collected on Saturday.
- Recyclables are collected on Tuesday.
- Cans and bottles are collected on Friday.
- Note: The specific type of trash should only be disposed of on a designated day in the week. Trash is collected in the morning only.
At this time, the police have known the identity of the body, and they have also caught the thieves. Conan calls Haibara, asking if the police know about Hakozaki’s whereabouts, this is because Conan has been investigating him ever since he saw the trash collecting schedule. The call makes Ayumi believe Hakozaki has been abducted instead of taking a real break, which Nojima disagrees with along with some nonsense of a fan. That nonsense reminds Haibara of the cat that led them to the scene earlier, so the four kids split to find it.
As Mitsuhiko and Haibara are searching in the area of the residence, their attention shifts toward Detective Chiba, who arrives to report some details to Megure. Chiba reports that the thieves have nothing to do with the murder, and Nojima’s behaviour could be of a stalker. The report makes the two believe that he is the real murderer, so they contact Ayumi and Genta to warn them about Nojima. Worrying that the others might be in danger, Mitsuhiko contacts others with the Detective Badge while he and Haibara are rushing to the others’ location. Suddenly, the two find the cat and decide to chase it, up to Hakozaki's secret apartment.
Meanwhile, Genta and Ayumi find Conan gathering something, along with Nojima, who are helping Conan look for evidence, as the two simply ran into each other a moment ago.

- This episode was originally Episode 1194, which would be aired after Kid VS Hakuba: The Azure Throne[2]. The episode order was later swapped mostly likely due to the temporary change of Ran's voice actor.
- In the beginning of the episode, Mitsuhiko is seen reading a copy of The Return of Sherlock Holmes, published by Daigakukan Publishing Company (a fictional company which appeared before in the series).
- The open bottle of wine in Hakozaki's apartment is a Château Haut-Brion. The other bottles on the shelves include Hennessy.
