Situation
At Café Poirot, Ran, Conan, Sonoko, and Masumi are trying to solve a matchstick puzzle given by Azusa: The puzzle gives five matches arranged as the number "ten". Change the position of only one match so that "ten" becomes "one" in at least one certain mean.

Azusa mentions that they are allowed to put the initial configuration anywhere they want and use a different angle to look at the final configuration, Sonoko proposes an answer based on only Azusa’s second hint, but Conan says it is not valid because she hasn’t moved a single match. Sonoko gets angry and yells at him, in which he is scared and spills his glass of water in the process. Sonoko apologizes for shouting Conan while Ran cleans up the spilled water, then Masumi finds a right way to change "ten" into "one": Fold the towel so it can support a matchstick upright, then display the number ten again so the “0” is in the towel. Now put the final matchstick vertically with the modified towel. The final result is the one on a die. Amuro arrives at the table and comments that Masumi knew what to do when Conan spilled the glass of water purposely, to which Conan denies any relation while Masumi claims that she solved it on her own.
Part 1
Sonoko, thinking that there must be other matchstick puzzles that require one to take only one match to fulfil a certain requirement, decides to search for them on the Internet. However, she stumbles upon news of a murderer who takes one finger away from bodies that he killed as trophies. Masumi mentions that the murderer has been caught and confessed to their crime, but no one is certain if the criminal has accomplices or not, and their whereabouts, if they exist. Azusa says she has seen the face shown in the news somewhere, but she is not certain at the same time.
Kiyoshi Hanke, the customer wearing a fisherman’s hat while sitting at the table with his beef stew, calls Azusa to ask several questions about the dish since it feels similar to one he usually has at his favorite restaurant. Amuro gives the man a paper containing the ingredients, the amount of each, and how to handle them. He also reminds the man that the way the ingredients are handled depends on the condition of each ingredient. As Hanke leaves Café Poirot while still coughing, Azusa again uses the same phrase she did for the face shown in the news, making Amuro and some of the audience to think if she is going to make a new running gag. Just then, Reita Kanamaru, a customer wearing a cap, coughs behind her and Amuro. She asks if he is fine, he says yes, and asks if he can get extra coffee. Later, Azusa becomes shocked during the conversation with Keisuke Omura, the customer wearing a beanie, which makes him panic as he does not want something in their conversation to be revealed yet.
A moment later, Amuro finds the herb salt being nearly empty when he is cooking pasta, so he asks Azusa to get some at the nearby supermarket. Azusa says she knew, but she couldn’t buy it because the item in the supermarket is out of stock. Conan, having been sent to the supermarket near his house to get herb salt by his mom when he was small, tells the two about that store, even though it would take longer to travel. Azusa agrees to have Conan lead the way to that supermarket.
Masumi becomes concerned as the two have gone for thirty minutes. Sonoko optimistically says that the supermarket near Shinichi’s house must have also run out of herb salt. Suddenly, Ran receives a call from Conan, so she picks it up, asking if he got lost. He replies that the two are being followed by some suspicious people, which makes her more concerned about their safety as she then puts the call on speaker mode. The two at first wanted to cut the followers off so there won’t be any potential kidnapping toward the Café, but decided to have them subdued to the police station since they are almost back. Conan asks if Amuro can come out and pick them at the sidewalk opposite the Café. Amuro understands the situation and goes outside the Café, with the three girls following right after. In the sidewalk opposite to the four is Azusa waving at them, while Conan is still being cautious around, and an old woman walking with her baby stroller. Amuro is about to cross the road when there is an upcoming bus, forcing him to step back in order not to endanger anyone. However, right after the bus passes and no longer block the view between the two groups; Amuro, then Masumi, then Ran and Sonoko, are shocked to see that the two have disappeared. Everyone, having noticed the old woman, runs off to her to ask what happened to Azusa and Conan. From there, they understand that one of the kidnappers is one of the customers this morning.
The episode cuts to an undisclosed location where Azusa and Conan are being held. However, the two of them are simply tied together with a chain and two padlocks, one ankle each, with the chain also going through the fridge handle. She remembers that a black van stopped in front of them and she was then tased and fell unconscious. She then wonders what to do, as she is not able to wake Conan up.

She notices the fridge limiting her and Conan’s movement, and wants to have a drink to calm herself down. Little did she know how traumatized she will be when she see the upcoming content:
- Inside the fridge is a jar. The jar contains a head, which is enough to make her scared. However, if we look closely, we should realize that the head is unable to be put in the jar normally, or several jar factories would end up being investigated afterward.
- Azusa then falls to the floor, thinking what in the world is happening to her. Not long after she steps back from the fridge, she accidentally touches something with her left hand, so she instinctively turns to look that way, and she sees a chopped-up finger with bloodstains, a knife, and a hacksaw nearby. Another traumatizing scene!
She recalls Masumi’s words about the bizarre murderer, about the uncertainty of their accomplice, and thinks if the two were abducted by the remaining accomplices of that insane murderer. Suddenly, she hears the sounds of Conan’s detective badge, so she decides to answer its signal. It turns out that Ran, Sonoko, Masumi, and Amuro are using the spare detective badge in Conan’s room to contact the two. Azusa explains the situation, about what happened before the two got kidnapped, what she just saw in the room. However, the call is disrupted by two men wearing facemasks and hoodies as the two heard noise inside the room (one is wearing a blue hoodie and one is wearing a yellow hoodie). The man in yellow hoodie breaks the badge, but not completely as Amuro’s side is still able to eavesdrop on what is coming, while the man in blue communicates to the yellow guy about how long they will keep the hostages. However, Sonoko’s outburst upon hearing the time they have left alerts the two men as the man in yellow hoodie breaks it completely in a rage.
Masumi confirms the signal of the badge is unavailable while Ran wonders why the kidnappers aimed toward Conan and Azusa. Sonoko theorizes that it could be because of Azusa’s reaction when she saw the face shown in the news about the murder, in which Amuro and Masumi refute because Conan and Azusa would have been killed if that was the case. The four begin to examining the three sneezing customers:
- The first to be examined is Kiyoshi Hanke. Firstly, Masumi theorizes that he is probably a staff of a restaurant who just wants to steal the recipe, Sonoko adds that the recipe Amuro gave the man might be a fake one, to which Amuro says he always gives the real one to anyone interested in a dish/drink. Ran theorizes that Hanke wants to publish an e-book including the recipe he was given this morning, most likely to earn profit, but Masumi it is not plausible. Amuro recalls Azusa’s catch phrase, but shakes off his thought because she might probably have met him in a restaurant.
- The second man to be examined is Reita Kanamaru. Sonoko theorizes that Kanamaru was stalking Azusa and kidnapped her without thinking. Masumi reminds her that Conan also got kidnapped, and that the person he was looking at the most is actually Amuro. Amuro deduces that he must be a frequent regular because he told Amuro that there was extra herb salt under the counter.
- The third person is Keisuke Omura. Ran thinks he works for a game company because the label written on his bag is “Shudankan Bunko”, a company that publishes a lot of strategy guides. Sonoko mentions that Azusa is really into a game called Splatter 2, a game where one plays as a girl using scythe to slice killers and monsters. Masumi theorizes that the thing Omura did not want Azusa to share to everyone is how to beat Splatter 2, but Ran wonders how is it the case because Azusa couldn't have seen the screen from where she was standing. At the same time, Sonoko shows Ran and Masumi a picture which she assumes is how Azusa saw what Omura did not want her to.
Part 2
From the picture shown by Sonoko, we can see Omura’s laptop screen being reflected on the glass, along with the solution of the matchstick puzzle Azusa gave them earlier. This is because Sonoko took pictures of the solution from various angles. Masumi mentions to Sonoko and Ran that she went to the restroom for a while when the three are in Poirot, and asks the two if they told something that might become the cause for the kidnapping. The two recall that they were talking about the upcoming tug-of-war tournament, whose women's division competes in a team of six, with the winning team earning a ten thousand yen gift certificate. The two intended to have Masumi in for the tournament, while were still discussing if they should invite Azusa as well, but decided not to because she is light and does not seem to have the strength for it. Amuro and Masumi realize something, and want to have another look at the first picture shown by Sonoko.
Meanwhile, at the kidnappers’ hideout, Azusa is crying because she still has many things she wants to do before she is no more. Conan tells her that the two will be fine because he has everything figured out. The yellow kidnapper warns them not to do anything reckless. Azusa wonders how long Conan has been awake, he replies that he has been awake ever since she opened the refrigerator. He also explains he pretended to not awake so as to assess the situation when he heard footsteps. Conan says they will start by opening the padlocks used with the chain to keep the two, to which Azusa says she doesn’t have a hairpin or anything like that. Conan reminds that she has matches, making Azusa wonder how he can do it with just a bunch of matches. She also wonders what he is looking at, and he says he is waiting for a cue, which makes her even more confused as she asks: What cue?
