Strange Talk - Is It Real

I watched the first episode of the original Gundam. I tried to watch Gundam Wing, but it felt just really ridiculous at times and the anime just jumped right on into the story, which isn't always a bad thing. But when you give no explanation nor really introduce any characters and use a bunch of terms that aren't clearly defined, it's not a great thing. As said, I've only seen one ep so far, but I liked it so much more than the 9 ep's of Gundam Wing I watched. I'm hoping the following episodes will be just as, if not more enjoyable. I'm also hoping that once I have a bit of a better grip on the Gundam franchise, I'll be able to try to watch Gundam Wing again at some point since I would still like to see it.

OMM 1: Undertale's OST is heavenly I've had the the car commercial sounding part (I don't know how else to describe it) of Mettaton EX's boss fight theme, Death By Glamour, stuck in my head for hours now OMM 2: the xmas stuff is starting to be put out, the black friday commercials have started, it's already snowed some places, the ugly sweaters are coming back ....soon /sleigh bells jingling furiously in the distance Oh, well I hope that day doesn't come then haha I'm not mean to her, but I still worry that she'd find something to be unhappy with me about haha

Gonna watch Metropolis soon. It's a silent movie from early 1927 and is one of the first science fiction movies. It takes place in 2026 so I'm really interested to see how the creator(s) thought 2026 might look like. I've heard very good things about this movie and even just scrolling through the comments on the youtube page for it, most of the comments are positive. It's got robots and the main one (possibly the only one; I'm not really sure yet) is called a "maschinenmensch" which literally is just the words "machine" and "person" or "human" put together. It's surprisingly long and is a good two and a half hours long so I'm actually really interested to see just how they'll fill up all that time. (Most early cinematography I've seen from the early 1900s has been in the 15min - 90min range so I'm very curious as to what they need 150min for) It also served as the loose basis for the Metropolis anime movie that came out in 2001. Being that the two will be at least somewhat similar, I want to watch them back to back, so finding a good 5 hours to do so will be difficult. I'm hoping I'll have time to watch them next weekend

/quietly butts in again A new study from NASA shows that despite all the effects global warming is having on the glaciers near the north pole, Antarctica is actually gaining more ice than it is losing. Due to just how big Antarctica is this is obviously a bit of a generalization as some areas are losing ice at a faster rate than they're gaining it, but that doesn't away from the fact that as a whole, the south pole is gaining ice. However, it's possible in the future that those will switch and that Antarctica could lose more ice than it gains and that could lead to higher sea levels. x

OMM: tfw you get put into an early childhood development and education class and you dislike children The psychology portion of the class seems interesting, but I feel so out place being surrounded by young parents, soon-to-be parents, students excited to be parents once they're adults, and people who want to pursue educational careers Indian summer perhaps...? Assuming the first frost there happened the same time it happened here I guess that could be the reason as to why the weather's been so uncharacteristically nice lately. The first frost came in a kinda weird way this year though so I hope she hasn't haha And I hope whoever "they" is won't judge people solely based on how they treat their pets if/when that day comes. If that happened and you asked my cat what she thought she'd probably say I'm a terrible person because I don't let her eat too much people food haha

I watched Die Abenteuer Des Prinzen Achmed which is the oldest surviving animated feature film. Two other, full length animated movies were made before it, but those are considered to be lost. The movie took three years to produce and had up to 24 frames per second. It was released in Germany in 1926, and in New York in 1931. The mirror of it I watched unfortunately didn't have the original music, but that might be because, like how a lot of silent films did, it might've had live music played by musicians in the theater itself. The film did have text cards every now and then. Aside from my German being incredibly limited, the font they chose was really hard to read at times. I was able to follow along somewhat by just watching, but being able to scan the cards for words I recognized definitely helped. The entire thing used silhouette animation which also occasionally made it hard to tell what was going on, but overall it looked really nice. The story wasn't anything great, it was heavily influenced by One Thousand and One Nights and just generally felt very fairy tale-y. For being only about an hour long, considering just how old this movie is, it was pretty alright. While it's nothing mind blowing by today's standards, back in 1926 this had to have been super high tech. It's crazy to think that this only came out 12 years before Disney's Snow White. TL;DR I liked it

OMM 1: Oh hey it's November, time to care about NaNoWriMo for about 10 days, write about 6k words, and never open the word doc again.. . .. . . OMM 2: I'm so salty that I missed the Breeder's Cup yesterday. I didn't even know it was happening--I was awake too--I could've watched it if I had known. The horse that one the Triple Crown back in May(...? Might've been June, but sometime in the spring) won this race too, not to mention that this race was the final one of his career. That horse accomplished so many feats this year it's unbelievable. When he won the Triple Crown, it was the first time in 37 years that had been done and now with this win, he became the first in racing history to win the Grand Slam (the three races that comprise the triple crown + the breeder's cup make up the grand slam apparently). I just-- this is so rare to happen--it's never happened before ....and I missed it My cat used to lick more as a kitten too. When we first got her, though I shouldn't have, I used my hands a lot when she wanted to play, so now when she runs up to me and goes for my arms, between play bites she'll lick me haha Sometimes she'll lick me if I put my hand in front of her, but most of the time she just looks at me funny and walks away haha I wonder why they grow out of it though since, from what I've read, it's a sign of affection and it's unlikely they grow less fond of you as time goes on

The Taurids meteors, which have been visible since October 20th and going to continue to being visible through November 30th, are going to be hitting their peak from November 5th - 12th. Up to about a dozen meteors could be seen per hour during this window, obviously how many you see will depend on luck, weather conditions, and how much light pollution is in your area. It sounds like these will be visible from anywhere on Earth too! (None of the articles I read clarified that you needed to be in a certain hemisphere, so I can only assume that is the case. Sorry if I'm wrong about that.)

OMM 2: it's crazy just how "warm" 30F - 40F feels when there's no snow in comparison to how awful it is to be out in just a hoodie when there's 4in+ of snow and it's 30F - 40F that's such a good video MY APOLOGIES I HAD A BUSY PAST COUPLE DAYS AND WANTED TO FINISH IT WHEN I HAD THE TIME AND ENERGY TO DO SO What a coincidence though considering I ended up posting that by complete accident

I doubt anyone here has any interest in reading any of these, but to be safe, here's a spoiler warning anyway. Apologies in advance for any and all grammar errors and also sorry that this is so long I read some tragic, gay manga I recently completed three short, dramatic and occasionally melancholic manga, with strong homosexual themes that are set in European, same sex boarding schools, and were published in the 1970s. these are compared to Kaze to Ki no Uta a lot because it shares a lot of similarities with quite a few of these and being that I started reading KazeKi almost a year ago, it's just my frame of reference for these things Shiroi Heya no Futari I have no idea what time period this is set in. The main character's parents died in a car accident (the car pictured looked somewhat modern and there are fairly modern airplanes too) but the school and some of the clothes look like they're supposed to be from the turn of the century. And the main character had a dream where her mother told her to cover her shoulders so she wouldn't catch a cold. Her roommate, and love interest, is wearing pants though. The 50s or 60s maybe???? Who knows, but that aside-- It's forgettable. I wasn't expecting to like this one, but this is from way back when both shoujo-ai and shounen-ai were directed at female audiences, so I thought that maybe because of that, it'd appeal to me in ways I wasn't expecting, but this just isn't a good manga to form an opinion of early shoujo-ai on. The art also isn't very good. The characters actually look kinda scary in some panels. The art style being very dated is not in and of itself a negative, but the art here just isn't appealing. It was also hard to follow occasionally. Like the last chapter had a sudden short time skip. The whole thing was less than 100 pages and I guess it was alright for that length. The characters weren't really developed much at all and, to be blunt, they're somewhat similar to Kaze to Ki no Uta's main couple, but that was to be expected. TL;DR didn't like it, but it wasn't absolutely terrible Natsu e no Tobira This one's just categorized as one chapter but it's actually only 10 pages shorter than Shiroi, which was split into 4 chapters. This one's by the same author as Kaze to Ki no Uta and gives off a similar feeling which is a plus in my book. I like Takamiya Keiko's art in KazeKi and I like it here as well. I particularly like Jacques' character design. The main character, Marion, kinda looks like Gilbert from KazeKi, maybe the author just has "a type" when it comes to how some of her main characters look. Personality wise, Marion and Gilbert are very different though, so I can't complain too much. It seems to be set in the same time period and setting as KazeKi, which is in France sometime between the 1870s and 1910s. Also like KazeKi, some of the adult characters are kinda shitty. (the adults in KazeKi are 10x worse but it's worth noting that they're not particularly great in both) I liked this one quite a bit actually. I'm more than likely biased towards it, but for only being 75 pages, it was surprisingly good. I thoroughly enjoyed all the angst that Natsu had to offer. It felt like too much was going on at times though. The ending also felt very abrupt, but for the most part, it was an enjoyable ride. I do feel that this shouldn't really be considered "shounen-ai" though. Two of the friends are vying for the same girl who has eyes for the protag, and the main character has an "affair" (if you could call it that) with an older, married woman. The implied gay kid isn't even revealed until the latter half of the story and shortly after the reveal, he dies so nothing more really came out of it. I did read this while I was tired though, so maybe I just missed some subtext or gay undertones or something because assuming I didn't, I can't see why this would be categorized as shounen-ai aside from Takamiya Keiko being known for doing manga with gay couples. (I think her best known work might even be KazeKi) TL;DR overall, I liked it. Will have to read it again to come to a less biased conclusion though. edit: Decided to rewatch the KazeKi ova on youtube and saw in the recommended videos that there's apparently a Natsu ova. I'm assuming it'll be much like KazeKi's ova and not be very good and feel incredibly dated. Unlike KazeKi, Natsu's very short though so maybe the ova will be alright since it'll hopefully have the entire story and not a bastardized version of it. Thomas no Shinzo Due to length, this one's under a spoiler I also read two other short series that would more accurately be described as being under the gender-bender genre, rather than shoujo-ai (or to be more progressive/accurate, these could just be under the romance genre since, at least the one, has a canon transgender protagonist and that makes any and all relationships in the story heterosexual (at least from the protag's viewpoint)). However, even calling them gender-bender could misleading since most things in said genre have cross-dressing, masculine female characters, feminine male characters, traps, etc and basically just characters that say "screw gender roles" and what not. Those characters don't always fall under LGBT+ though, or if they do, they're usually not transgender. Hence, grouping characters that are actually transgender, and are shown to have gender identity disorder, in with characters that are cisgender, is a little confusing. Unlike shounan-ai and shoujo-ai, main characters that are transgender aren't very common so it's understandable why there isn't a sub-genre dedicated for stories with trans characters, and while the gender-bender genre is the closest thing to such a genre, it still seems a little off. under a spoiler because this post is almost unbearably long without one

OMM: I'm very happy that this week's so close to being over for me. I was really stressed on Sunday and Monday but my one final went better than expected, I have anywhere from 1-3 small make-up tests tomorrow that are pretty much just review at this point, I wrote a decent enough essay in like 70 minutes, I made my MAL profile look really nice, and I have a short break from school starting in about 17 hours things are nice currently True, but that doesn't make it any less heartbreaking when it happens. You get pretty attached to them over the years. Ahh, how lucky! None of the cats I've been close to are/were lap cats so I get a bit jealous when people say one or all of their cats are lap cats haha There's not too much to say about my cat haha Her name's Chloe, she's a 4 year old calico that we got when she was around 10 weeks old. Our previous cat was technically my sister's cat, so our current one's technically my cat so I got to name her. She's a lot friendlier than our other cat was, she "talks" to us somewhat often, likes being in someone's company, is pretty playful, and she also licks me a lot which is something I didn't even know cats did haha She's just a great little furball :')
