Case

Situation

Kogoro is called to meet with Toshio Higashiyama at his company building called Orion Planning, famous for Kamen Yaiba series, and takes Ran and Conan with him. Upon entering the building, they are asked to call his sectional number, 423. After getting in contact with him on the phone, they witness the employee Fujihiko Takahata, fall from the building to his death.

The police are called to the scene and enter Takahata's office discovering a typed suicide note. Conan notices the window is open, a dry spot over the ledge of the window, and a piece of a theatrical property was found on the body and gives Kogoro hints allowing him to deduce Takahata's death. He reveals the prop is the one used in fictional children's show where when shot with a laser gun, deflates. The prop was used to keep Takahata's inert body from falling out the window, and was deflated resulting in his death and allowing the culprit to establish an alibi.

Upon further investigation, Conan tranquilizes Kogoro and gathers the police to Takahata's room revealing the culprit to be Toshio Higashiyama. Conan reveals that Higashiyama used an extension cord from his office building to forge his alibi, evidenced by the cord found in his room. To convict him, Conan reveals a broken pen was found in the room where he actually was and that there is an ink stain at the back of his collar. Higashiyama confesses and reveals that the small factory that his younger brother operated wasn't doing so well, so Higashiyama introduced him to the company. For a while, he was happy, but Takahata took advantage of Higashiyama's brother's finical problems and demanded illegal kickbacks. He refused and soon after, he was denied payment of his products. Nanae asks why Higashiyama didn't sue Takahata. Higashiyama explains that Takahata anticipated this and snuck in addendums in the contract. In the end, his brother was so deep in debt, he committed suicide.

• This is the first screenplay that Koujin Ochi wrote under his pseudonym, Chiko Uonji.
  • This name comes from the reorder of his real name's romanji: Ochi Koujin → Uonji Chiko.
• The layout of the building in this episode is similar to Koujin Ochi's other work, A Cursed Mask Coldly Laughs.
• The poster that appear in background of through Orion Planning is Kamen Rider Den-O & Kiva: Climax Cop, Kamen Rider 555 and Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legend.
