Situation

Conan, Haibara, the Detective Boys and the married couple Akari Haga and Akito Haga are fixing the traditional house when Akari notices the strange stains at the wall near her husband, so he decides to touch it with his trowel, breaking it easily for some reason. This catches the attention of the kids as the Detective Boys assume there must be a treasure inside the wall. However, to everyone’s horror, the content inside the wall is the corpse of a woman. While the police are investigating, Conan notices that the corpse was wearing pajamas before she died, so he and his friends begin asking the couple about the house but it yields no result since nothing much about the former owner is revealed.

The boys begin asking others about the former owner, and it seems that the police are one step ahead when they find the person before they do and take him for interrogation. After that, the Detective Boys visit the family again and enjoy the cake Akari treats them before waving goodbye to her and Akito, who happens to go back after buying material. On their way home, they meet Conan and Haibara again, who have been suspecting something is off about the husband, and decide to go back to the traditional house as Conan says that he will reveal everything once they arrive.

Akito Haga is the culprit behind a robbery eight years ago. His motive for buying the house was to retrieve the money he had stolen and buried in the backyard. After realizing the money was used by the previous owner and was likely the source for the gardener killing his spouse, he becomes disgruntled. After Akari finds out about his motive, he tries to kill her, which was part of his original plan.

Aftermath

After the case is concluded, we learn that Akari moved out, which the Detective Boys say is understandable, since so much happened with the house. As they are saying this, a couple walks by the back-on-sale kominka and become interested in buying it since it must have some history with it. Genta decides he will gladly tell them about the history, but is held back the other Detective Boys, while Conan says to himself that that information must be disclosed to buyers anyways.
