Birth of the New Ryuujin Legend!! (新龍神伝説誕生！！ Shin-Ryūjin Densetsu Tanjō!!) is the 40th episode of the Yaiba anime. It aired on January 7, 1994. Contrary to the other episodes of the anime, it mostly consisted of recaps of the previous 39 episodes and only adapted part of file 134.

Manga to anime changes
- The episode only adapts the first three pages of chapter 134, with the partying scene and Kumo-Otoko lamenting Onimaru. The rest of the episode is made up of flashbacks to the previous 39 episodes:

Trivia
- Insert song: Double-Edged Sword (諸刃のヤイバ Moroha no Yaiba), by Minami Takayama and Ichiban Ujigami.
- This episode is the last one featuring the first eyecatcher eyecatcher (transition panel for commercial breaks), with Yaiba playing with his sword and stabbing his buttocks by accident, and Yaiba playing drums and getting electrocuted. This is also the only instance of the eyecatcher with Minami Takayama's voice over it.
