Welcome to the Stone Age Village (おいでよ石器人の里 ,Oideyo Sekkijin no Sato) is the 1208th episode of the Detective Conan anime.

Conan, Ran and Kogoro went to visit Hiehata City, which is using footage from a suspected Stone Age man as a way to revitalize the region. While in the mountains, the three discover a figure that resembles said Stone Age man running away, along with a man's body.

Situation

A video of a man who lives a prehistoric lifestyle has gone viral on the Internet. It was filmed by Eita Nakamura while having Tsutomu Iwata as the main reporter, at a waterfall situated near the Mount Hiehata trail in Stone Age village, Hiehata city. Kogoro arrives at the village with Conan and Ran without a disclosed purpose, though they are still looking for the prehistoric man like most others. They find the man when they are hiking on the mountain trail, but unable to catch up with him while finding someone else dead nearby.

Murder

Location: Near the stairs that lead to an abandoned temple in Mount Hiehata

Suspects: Stone Age Man, Tsutomu Iwata, Fukusuke Tsuzuki, Kotaro Nagakura, and Eita Nakamura

At the same time, Fukusuke Tsuzuki appears out of nowhere and asks why the three are in the woods. Kogoro tells him that the man is dead and asks who he is. Tsuzuki introduces himself as the city’s tourism director, and is about to give his business card to the detective when he urges the director to call the police. Takagi and some forensic officers arrive to handle the case, and are able to identify the victim as investigative reporter Saneo Kurauchi. Conan asks what is the thing sticking on Kurauchi’s shirt, and Ran answers it is a seed of a plant. After a little explanation to Takagi about the recent Stone Age man rumour, he and Kogoro wonder why the victim was here in the first place, to which Conan suggests asking the supermarket cosplayer employee because he saw the cosplayer talking to the victim outside the supermarket before hiking on the trail.

Surprisingly, the current cosplayer testifies that he does not know about the victim. At the same time, Iwata walks past the commotion, now having bruised in one of his two eyes. Iwata sees a seed on the cosplayer's costume, so he reminds the man that there is a seed on his body. But the problem is that he did so by pointing at the seed and saying "ba-ka", which no one understands at all. Kogoro wonders why the cosplayer says he did not know the victim, while Conan said he saw the victim did so with him, to which Iwata steps in and asks when did Conan witness the thing. It is then revealed that the man is telling the truth, as he is Kotaro Nagakura–Nagakura supermarket president, while the man Kurauchi talked to was Eita Nakamura.

At first, Iwata tries to testify to Nagakura's alibi by saying he… punched him in the eyes due to his clumsiness. Kogoro replies that Nagakura’s action is assault, but tells the two to recreate the scene nonetheless. Behind the supermarket, Nagakura is trying to recreate how he punched his employee in the eye when he accidentally steps on Iwata’s injured foot. Iwata then explains how he got those injuries, including the bruise he currently has. Still, he insists on saying that his boss is not the culprit by mentioning how he never uses physical violence on him, no matter how many times he screwed up. Conan happens to find a blood trail near the backyard, so he follows it. He then asks for Iwata’s permission to see the video. After seeing just the first 15 seconds of the footage, Conan then searches something on the Internet.

Conan found articles published by Kurauchi, thereby learning why he was killed.

For the past six months, Saneo Kurauchi had been publishing articles about an unethical scouting group whose kingpin is currently on the run. Saneo came to the Stone Age village because he found the kingpin in the footage. The man Kurauchi was referring to is none other than Eita Nakamura, who was the only one appearing along with Iwata. Nakamura lured the victim behind the supermarket and ended his life there.

The chain reaction.

Everything becomes linked as they can be explained in the following order: Kurauchi recognized the cameraman seen-only in the first 15 seconds of the footage is the kingpin; so he asked Nakamura, who was on his shift as the cosplayer, about the person (he did not know Nakamura was the kingpin because of the Stone Age costume). The culprit told him to go behind the supermarket, and killed him there with merchandise. At the time Nakamura was carrying the corpse away, Iwata received multiple injuries from the mess caused by the murder while Kurauchi’s blood shedded. Both of them caught some of the plants’ seeds on Nakamura's way to create a fake murder scene. In addition, Conan (as Sleeping Kogoro) explains that the type of seed stuck to their clothes is pronounced in some Japanese regions as ba-ka – the same pronunciation for "stupid" in Japanese – thus, resolving the misunderstanding between Iwata and Nagakura.

It is also revealed that the Stone Age man's family saw him going viral on the Internet, so they asked Kogoro to convince him to give up the lifestyle and go home.

Aftermath

It is revealed that ever since the Stone Age man incident, Kogoro has been receiving calls to find their missing family members, all of which Kogoro replies they should call a rescue team instead of him.
