A Kiss is the Reason for Killing, a 20-year-old Revenge Murder! The Mystery of the Perfect Alibi (キスは殺しの理由、20年後の復讐殺人! 完璧なアリバイの謎 ,Kisu wa Koroshi no Riyū, 20-nen-go no Fukushū Satsujin! Kanpekina Aribai no Nazo) is the 11th episode of the Challenge Letter to Shinichi Kudo live-action drama series. It was first aired in September 15, 2011. This episode loosely adapts the chapters 258-260 of the original manga with significant changes, marking the first time in the live-action drama series.

Shinichi Kudo invites Ran Mouri to have dinner in the restaurant on the thirty-eighth floor of the Beika Center Building for a reason. Meanwhile, a murder occurs: the victim is Taiji Tatsumi, the president of the Games company. Shinichi Kudo suspects the director of Games, Satoru Oba, but he has been with the president's daughter, Sakurako Tatsumi, all the time. Can Shinichi Kudo solve the case and go back to confess his intention to the waiting Ran Mouri on time?

Episode Resolution

Shinichi types in the words Erebētā/Elevator, opening the white door to get to Ran who is looking to another direction. While Shinichi runs towards her, she tells him "wait!" and glances towards him.

Manga/anime to drama differences

• This episode drops all the mentions about Conan during Ran and Shinichi's conversation. As well as Shinichi feeling unwell due to APTX4869's antidote wearing off, since it takes place before he turned himself into Conan in this timeline.
• The drama adds scenes of Ooba wearing a costume at the party.
• Megure doesn't appear in this adaptation.
• Shinichi interrogates Sakurako in another room, rather than in front of the elevator
• Ooba's father's face is not shown in this adaptation.
• Sato is the one who recalls Yusaku's case at the end, instead of Megure early in the case.
• Hajime Hirata is added at the end of the episode.

Trivia

• This drama episode is out of line with the canon Detective Conan timeline, due to the Elevator Murder Case events in this episode being before Shinichi turned into Conan by the Black Organization.
  • However, the live-action drama are not considered canon to the main series.
