I think that the BO boss is Gosho Aoyama himself LOL!! His full name appears on the cover of every manga file :D:P Okay, jokes apart, I think the boss is going to be a new character, just that his/her name has appeared somewhere before......

So...I was watching dc episode 48-49, when Heiji is first introduced and at the very end of 49 Heiji makes this comment, "...Chinese liquor can be strong, but not half as strong as gin and vodka. You should really watch out for those two. They're killers..". And continues on to say, "Oh, you might be interested in the names of those drinks I mentioned, they're interested in you". Now why would he say that????

So I was rewatching my Favourite scenes in DC.. then i stumbled upon Ep. 345 where the confrontation about Vermouth occurs.. Now this is what I notice..

When Ran saved Haibara, Calvados attempted to shoot her several times unsuccessfully.. but what i really find it strange was Vermouth's reaction.. She was completely distressed.. She was completely scared for Rans life that she eve fired a warning shot to Calvados' position,,, now why would she do that???

There's no possible reason for her to save her.. except that she holds a very special meaning to her.. ( she was fond of ran when she was Sharon Vinyard in the L.A. Case).. if it was Shinichi, then Vermouth saving him is acceptable.. but RAN??? for him to shoot Calvados to save Ran is not reasonable.. Why will she sacrifice the entirety of the mission to save Ran Mouri's life?

Now for me, as a fan/theorist.. i present 3 explanations.. (there may be others.. but this is the best i got) :

1. She was fond of Ran.. and possibly felt indebted to her for Ran saved her life when she disguised as the serial killer in the L.A. Case... (Akai was first introduced as FBI there)

2. Based from numerous but unreliable fan theories.. Ran is Kogorou's daughter.. now i reallly dont believe Kogorou is a member to the Black organization.. the rest of making this theory is up to you

3. Lastly.. this is a conjuncture to my theory..sadly, Chekhov really did nice in counter-arguing it.. ( though it's still my #1 theory)...

If Eri is the Boss.... that would explain A LOT about her actions..and even if she isnt.. i still believe that vermouth knows eri kisaki personally...

also the fact that in the entire series, Gosho successfully hides the fact that Haibara never ever met Eri in the series is rather suspicious for me.. If I play my Kogorou/Eri Kisaki past involving the Black Organization theory....i think it rather fits well...

On other notes.. the parents of Haibara is not the BOSS for me... coz again in the episode.. Vermouth said " Blame your stupid parents for your fate".. why would Vermouth.. "that person's favourite"... would say that the boss is stupid... i dont think so...

As for Chekhov.. it would be naive of me to think that you wont counter this.. but im looking forward to it.. through your criticisms, i can revise and revise my theories also.. i enjoy reading your works.. it's really superb..

Also the Boss said to Vermouth... "i think I've given you too much freedom..."..

Is it because Vermouth failed........ or is it......................................

because someone close to the boss was put in danger?????? Now.. i do not know.. LOL.. xD

What I have for Eri not being the boss is

If Eri Kisaki was the boss, she ordered her own husband, whom she has loving feelings for, to be killed. Additionally because she was not present when issuing the command, she would not know if Ran was at the Detective agency and thus in the line of fire. This is completely unlike Eri Kisaki's personality.

The list I keep of stock arguments against certain chars

You ran into an anime plothole. Do you remember the Bullet Train Episode where there was a bomb on board, and the two suspects looked like Gin and Vodka but weren't? In the original manga they were Gin and Vodka for real.

Gin_and_Vodka_on_a_train.PNG

One of people in charge of the animating team decided the Black Organization was appearing too often so they changed the real Gin and Vodka to lookalikes. The problem is that, in the manga, Conan bugged the two men's seats and learned their codenames were Gin and Vodka. Hearing those codenames is how Conan figured out Tequila was in the Black Org when Tequila called Vodka.

The problem in the anime continuity was that Gin and Vodka were replaced with lookalikes, so Conan never learned their codenames. The animators had to fix that somehow so the scene with Tequila would work. The Japanese anime team simply ignored the problem and hoped no one would notice. The English dubbers changed Hattori's lines so that he could tell Conan about the Org. The truth is that Hattori didn't know about the Black Org at all in the manga until Conan told him about them.

Posted this elsewhere but am gonna spam it here too because it's been really bothering me. Not that I believe in this stupid speculation, so please anyone just debunk it for me :P

BOB aka BO boss = Kudo Yusaku (explain for why Conan's immediate family is still alive) and Baron cocktail = Gin + Vermouth + Curacao.

But then again, I don't tend to trust Aoyama and his naming sense lol. James Black is too obvious as a red herring.

Oh another note, I think Ooguro Rentarou is a good candidate. Appeared in name, probably not in person. Appeared alongside Miyano Shiho, Kurosawa Jin, and Vodka lol (in the name-book during the Mermaid case,) you can't get anymore blatant than that...!! (Ooguro literally means Big Black... you also have the Big Black building appearing back in the Tequila case.)

It is true that Ooguro/Daiko Rentarou (大黒連太郎) was in Hattori's mermaid guestbook and Miyano Shiho's name (宮野 志保) was in Conan's. However, Vodka and Kurosawa Jin being in the guestbook is completely untrue. It was all rumor. There have been several investigations by experienced translators, and none ever said they were Gin and Vodka's real names.  (Edit: This has been proven False! They are in the guestbook!) The other name is Conan's guestbook next to Shiho's is 魚塚三郎 (Without furigana it's a guess how it it read, but people seem to think it is family name = Sakanazuka, given name = Saburō).

The other names are cut off.

Ah you're right, although I was thinking more like they could be coded names (eg. ウォッカ becomes ウオ ツカ as a pun) then again why isn't Miyano's name coded as well? :P Should've asked myself that beforehand...

(Btw, it's the first time I've heard of Sakanazuka, who did you hear it from? But Uotsuka is definitely one way to pronounce the surname. But whichever way they pronounce the name, no way anyone can 'unsee' the pun on Uotsuka lol...)

Also we only see O澤O, sorry I totally filled the gaps of my memories with this link I've read in the past: http://anokata.xxxxxxxx.jp/faq.html (3rd question) but I'm pretty gutted I don't have the original source to confirm this interview (though there are a few sources on the Internet pointing towards the same quote: あれ、見えないけど魚塚三郎の隣に 本当は黒澤陣って書いてあるんだよね。(That's not seen, but next to Uotsuka Saburou really is Kurosawa Jin written down.) If only there's a scan lol.......)

And in his quote immediately before that, Aoyama did kinda admit to the name Kurosawa Jin :P (assuming this interview really is in Rabu Conan page77...)

In no way am I saying they're real names, normally they'd be at least coded, right???? XD (Even if they're real names it wouldn't make sense--- do their real names come before the beverage naming convention or what? etc.) What bothers me the most is Shiho's name as it is. Unless there's somebody non-BO at the 'meeting/party' who knows Shiho or her parents...

In any case, however much misleading Aoyama wants to make this, this level of red herring is just way too much to pass by!

Edit: Just found the series of posts about this a few pages back, haha sorry for repeating. The muraji thing totally makes sense. Personally, more the reason to believe Ooguro being the boss, or at least one of the top-most directors/commander/whatever (but then again, we have James Black............. dammit.)

Still doesn't solve the Uotsuka Saburou speculation though :P

(Btw, it's the first time I've heard of Sakanazuka, who did you hear it from?

A few years ago at DCTP forums and then later at the DCTP cbox (no records) and then the german http://detektivconan-forum.com/. The most recent English thread is here, and unfortunately has been messed up by the forum move. If you had an account at DCTP before the move, you can log in here and see the thread without errors.

But Uotsuka is definitely one way to pronounce the surname. But whichever way they pronounce the name, no way anyone can 'unsee' the pun on Uotsuka lol...)

Throwing the name 三郎 into Wikipedia yields straight "Saburo"s

魚塚 is the radical for fish (sakana) and mound/heap/hillock (Tsuka, but appears to be -zuka when another sound is before it).

Alternate readings for fish can give you "Uo".

Uozuka (Uotsuka) works as the family name.

Vodka rendered into Japanese is ウォッカ

ウ = U kana

ォ = Scaled-down o kana used to express morae foreign to the Japanese language

ッ = "little tsu", in this case used to double a k sound.

カ = ka

So if you just jam the sounds together ignoring proper reading you get Uotsuka.

Definitely it comes across as similar, so it's believable that Vodka wrote it in the book. (Then again I am not an experienced translator) That said, I don't think it is possible to prove that it is his real name instead of just a pun on his codename. Just because Shiho wrote her real name doesn't mean Vodka did so.

Also we only see O澤O, sorry I totally filled the gaps of my memories with this link I've read in the past: http://anokata.xxxxxxxx.jp/faq.html (3rd question) but I'm pretty gutted I don't have the original source to confirm this interview (though there are a few sources on the Internet pointing towards the same quote: あれ、見えないけど魚塚三郎の隣に 本当は黒澤陣って書いてあるんだよね。(That's not seen, but next to Uotsuka Saburou really is Kurosawa Jin written down.) I honestly don't trust most of the guidebooks, except for Conan Drill which appears to be the most official manga guide for the series. If I remember correctly there is one little note about the name: http://forums.dctp.ws/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4399&p=225197&hilit=Conan+Drill+Vodka#p225197

It doesn't confirm anything and doesn't mention Gin.

@Chekhov

Right, I don't mean to go too off topic, especially stupidly bringing up the same topic that everybody else have already discussed way before I joined lol. So just to wrap up on my end, after extensive research and a bit of thought, I'll take back the Kurosawa thing, but I'll leave the Uotsuka idea as it is. (I'll keep a mental note about the guidebook issue you've raised.) I also don't think it's his real name even if that really were Vodka's sig (if my previous post wasn't clear enough ^^; ) In any case, thanks for all your effort with the bunch of links!

(P.S. I know Aoyama likes to play around with puns, but when the character 'fish' is in the name, we use "Uo" or very rarely 'irregular' pronunciations but never Sakana lol, give or take one family in the whole of Japan just to allow for the weirdest improbable :P)

Funny you should say that. I went and dragged it over to one of the translators at DCTP and she said the name might be Kurosawa, and the name we can see entirely was probably Vodka's pun. I think I was in the wrong and the interview might be correct.

ranscript from the cbox, cut to the most relevant points with minor fixes.

Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 13:51) The mermaid guestbook came up again. What did I screw up, Fuji? http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/foru ... /?p=295425

Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 13:53) It came up in regards to Q3 from this site: http://anokata.xxxxxxxx.jp/faq.html

Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 13:55) If I didn't mess anything up, I'm going to have to go back on my previous words that Vodka wasn't in the guestbook. Of course, a pun like that is probably not his real name, even though Sherry used her real name.

Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:10) Awesome find that. My remarks: 魚塚 is definitely a play on Vodka just as you described. That's because it's not, in fact, a Japanese surname. I.e. no one uses it.

Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:12)

It could be read differently from Uotsuka, of course, but given how it's not an actual name and it's position in the guest book, either Vodka wrote it or it was a joke by Gosho, it was definitely intentional.

Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 14:12 - 27 Jun 13, 14:14) I noticed Wikipedia turned up zero people with the name. I'm guessing it was probably Vodka judging by the context. Shiho probably would get an escort. The elephant in the room is if the Gin part is true though. As in the name on the far right. Per the interview given in Q3 here: http://anokata.xxxxxxxx.jp/faq.html

I doubt Vodka would use his real name, even if Shiho did.

Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:15) No, since Vodka is a codename it would make no sense for it to be his real name. Esp. given how it's not, actually, a name that people use.

Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 14:16) By the way this might be useful: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki ... _manga.PNG

Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:18) Yes, well, all I can say is that the part of the next name that you see matches the Kanji for Kurosawa Jin (黒澤陣).

Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:30) But, yeah, the Gin thing woud really depend on the veracity of that interview, since you can only see the tiny part of the name and the original rumor might have been based on that bit ...

Chekhov MacGuffin: (27 Jun 13, 14:35) If you have any more remarks, now would be a good time

Fujiwara: (27 Jun 13, 14:38) Well, there's alternate readings for the given name, I suppose, but Saburou seems the most prevalent and none of them give off any BO vibe. Here they are though: Mitsuo, Sanrou, Kazuo

Took me 3 hours to realise you actually linked me to another forum lol (despite you obviously saying you went to DCTP) so I was really confused when I found myself posting with another account... whatever @__@ I'm made a reply on there as Utsune, mainly about the perceived credibility of Rabu Conan because I'm not familiar with that magazine either.

To link back to this topic here, I want to say it doesn't really concern me whether it's their real names or not, but I want to know whether Gin made an appearance on the Island with Sherry, and whether Anokata might have appeared alongside them (being in a different guestbook is an interesting point...) For all we know, there are big names in the political world and major corporations... all for a legend? I think not. Guests also include a slightly lower level BO member Vodka, so it's not a VVVVIP-only event. What are they there for in codenames? As bodyguards?

Going with the theories about the goal of the Black Organization, it's possible Shiho + Gin and Vodka were investigating the rumors of an immortal person. Your idea that the Syndicate told them to be there because important people were there is also good and there is no reason there couldn't be two goals in one mission. Assuming Gin was there as well as Vodka, that means Shiho wrote her real name while they used aliases. That suggests some measure of defiance; they could be there to protect her but also to mind her as well if she was acting slightly rebellious.

She texted the boss info about what happened, then Gin called right after. Gin had been calling trying to reach Kir because he didn't know why she was out of contact (because Kogoro was over solving a case for her).

I have thought for awhile the the CEO of BO is Agasa Hiroshi. Who would suspect bumbling, trustworthy, person you could talk to about anything as the CEO of the BO.

The actual CEO is ...... The last person you would ever think of, picture, or even imagine would be the CEO. That's how it usually works when comes to characters like that.

Yusaku Kudo Has to be the Boss

[Example 1] (Speculation): Episode 96 Beginning When Yukiko complained about Yusaku coming home with lipstick (Vermouth?)

[Example 2] Episode 43 and 96: When Yusaku Always Finishes the mystery before his son, always overthinking and careful, and one step ahead.

[Example 3] Episode 129: Night Baron Virus on the Computer. It could be the name of the organization

Nanatsu no Ko could mean the 4869 poison, changes a person to seven years old or Shinichis friends.

But I'm still finding more proof  :D
