I totally forgot about crimped blanks, because they are far more rare. But that is still dangerous as there could be debris in the barrel that could do damage. And blanks with wads at that close range have enough velocity to kill. And it was? I really need to reread it. If what you say is true (which considering that it is you...) then I can think of one more theory, but it would require an accomplice outside of Kir and Akai, but it is not outside of the FBI's capabilities. Though the perspective is still possible, but MUCH harder to pull off (it would have to be perfect). The other possibility is a staged killing that was predone and they hijacked Gin's signal predicting that he would want two shots. Granted this is unlikely, because as you said he could have asked that the entire clip be emptied, but it is still a possibility that they pulled such a trick off, but it would be far riskier. And it sorta seems like the kind of thing that Gosho would pull out. I think at least.

This is always tough for me, which is why I'm totally cheating with my top 3... 1) Works by Naoki Urasawa - Fantastic writer. Creates interesting and engaging characters and great stories that connect to their readership on a fundamental level (I think Monster is the only one that has been animated, but hell, still one of my favorite Anime) 2) Works by Osamu Tezuka - Father of anime and manga? Far ahead of his time? Great stories with nearly limitless imagination? All these describe this man. Definately a man deserving of respect. Also, Astroboy... I mean really... 3) Works by Satoshi Kon - Paranoia Agent, Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers... enough said. Man is a genius and I love him. 4) Lupin III - Enormously fun and awesome. 5) Mononoke - The atmosphere and classic story is just phenomenal. Honorable mentions... (long list ahead) Hokuto no Ken, Initial D, Shura no Toki, Shion no Ou (highly recommended), HxH, BECK (Really should have made the list), Rin, Karas, Trigun (Another that should have been on the list), FLCL (ANOTHER that should have been on the list), Baccano (DAMN IT! Why does it have to be limited to 5???), Durarara, Death Note, Elfen Lied (another that should have been on the list), HSD: Kenichi (Another that should have been on the list...), Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt (I do so love Gainax), MADLAX (Certain strange reasons for this one) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (Another that should have been on the list, though the light novels were better)... I'm going to stop there... I'm sure I can continue on if I had a list... That does it for off the top of my head... Need to edit... There have been some changes to the top 5... Reason being that DC is starting to annoy me and really doesn't deserve to be on my top 5... After rewatching a few anime it is probably closer to 15... I should also mention Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop and Yu Yu Hakusho. I just saw a few eps of these recently and remembered how awesome they are. The ONLY reason why I didn't put Bebop up on the top 5 is because it is really too clichéd. But it really deserves to be in the top 5.

The only problem with that is that bullets made like that have a high failure rate because lack of packing material (aka a wad) which ensures the proper packing of the gunpowder to allow for ignition. And wads tend to kill at point blank range. Which, if you recall, was part of my argument when the manga was first released and we had our first debate at length. Basically, no matter what, anyone who has experience with blanks will tell you that the range BOTH shots were fired at are extremely dangerous. If there was any lingering debris that could have given severe injury. And as for the point blank range, if the bullets were made with a wad to ensure the powder's packing consistency, it would have certainly killed him. Again that is only about a 90% (give or take 5%, I'm no expert on munitions manufacturing) or so chance of having a blank with a wad. At midrange, on sets, actors are instructed to NEVER aim at the target, as at midrange the wad is still able to give severe injury (nonlethal, but still). Usually with point blank they either don't use a blank at all and add in the bullet and sound effect in post production, they use perspective to make it appear that they are shooting the actor in the head but are really shooting next to them, OR they do two shots of it, and use overlay to get the shot they want. All in all, even blanks are serious business, and I can't fully accept it for reasons I have stated. I've mentioned this before, but I know Gosho will likely bring him back, and probably blanks were used to fake his death. It just wouldn't work in the real world, but this isn't the real world, it is Gosho's world. Though... I wonder... I don't remember if they were using a monocular or binoculars to view Akai's death, but... Is it possible to use the perspective trick I stated? For some reason I doubt it, but I can't be sure. It might be possible to use forced perspective at that distance.... But it is tricky and would have had to be practiced which they did not have time to do. Though this whole thing does remind me of GoldenEye...

Nope. It is definitely there. Ran and Shinichi never worked in my eyes... They are too different. If they get married I have a sneaking suspicion that they'll end up like Eri and Kogorou. Yuusaku and Yukiko are pretty different except for one vital thing, they are both eccentric as hell, which means they are both somewhat crazy and thus work well together. Ran is far too reserved and conservative. Gosho made her into the typical Japanese woman, but what Shinichi would need is more the Wester woman, which Yukiko is and what Haibara is. Haibara has an extra trick up her sleeve which is intelligence. In other words the ability to have a conversation on par with Shinichi, and they would be meaningful, not idle banter as they would be with Ran. Ran and Shinichi may be meant for each other in Gosho's eyes, but they are not ideal for each other. Haibara/Shiho on the other hand is not meant for Shinichi in Gosho's eyes, but they are ideal for each other. Perhaps that was his goal for when he introduced her into the series to make a topic for fans to discuss and debate over. A lot of writers have done that, including Rowling in the creation of Neville Longbottom's character in Harry Potter, because both he and Potter fulfilled the conditions for the prophecy.

Despite meeting Utada Hikaru... I prefer.... AYA KAMIKI! But honestly between the two... they are equal in my mind.

Welcome! Btw, when I saw your name I realized I've been reading too much Monster... I totally read your name as "Johan" Hopefully we can get along well

Too late, Gosho already made me into a character... The character's name is Shiho Miyano/Haibara Ai/Sherry. She is the female version of me. It is quite awesome, granted she is far smarter than I am Edit: the only difference between Sherry and myself is that I am a martial artist... So in that sense I am sorta like the new girl and Ai in one...
-
What they do is similar, but the knowledge they have cannot be compared. You get a great doctor and a great detective in the same room, neither will be smarter than the other because one will be able to bury the other in a conversation that the other has no knowledge base of. Even ME's only have a rudimentary knowledge of ballistics, which is why ballistics testing is done in a forensics lab rather than in the MEs office. Let me put it to you another way if you still don't get it... You could take Shawn Spencer and Monk, and put them into each others world and they would have no problem... well OK Monk would have a melt down, but not for the reason of not being able to work. He'd just not be able to touch anything until he got a cleaning service to sterilize everything. Now if you switch Monk and House, they would not be able to function in the other person's positions despite being equally brilliant in their own right. Monk would have no idea how to cure a disease, and House would not know how to link evidence to a crime. Likely they would be able to find the information necessary, but without the knowledge to apply it it is useless. And to the person who brought up the Doctor... that just isn't fair... He isn't even human! We all know Time Lords are superior in every way and have hundreds of years of experience! We are talking about HUMANS! Though I do agree The Doctor would best them all

I have too many too list, but here are some that I thoroughly enjoy. I won't bother explaining any, because it makes me go like for none of these not being mentioned 1) A Clockwork Orange 2) CITIZEN KANE (OMG one of the best movies EVER) 3) To Kill a Mockingbird 4) Good Night, And Good Luck 5) Seven Samurai Know what? Screw 5! I'm going to 10! 6) Casablanca 7) The Godfather Trilogy 8) Memento 9) Pulp Fiction 10) Shawshank Redemption I really want to 20... But no... I should stop... I can't... If I don't stop now I'll probably hit 30. But I'll put a few honorable mentions... Batman (The first one directed by Tim Burton), Patton, Fantasia, Amadeus, and Spirited Away... There are my top 15... Sorry... TOO MANY GOOD MOVIES! (17 if you expand the trilogy, well 16 because the third wasn't that good...) Oh and objectively... Tron Legacy was a HORRIBLY movie with broken continuity from the original. What it really was a full length fantastic Daft Punk music video.

Other... Reboot of Sherlock Holmes is the smartest. Also, it is not fair to put a doctor with detectives, their knowledge bases are completely different. The better choice would have put Shawn Spencer instead. Then you have Jessica Flecher, Patrick Jane, Thomas Magnum, and Ben Matlock (ok so he was a lawyer not a detective) among others. BTW, in that list I'd go with Magnum PI <3. Though Holmes is still the smartest, but that is technically cheating <3

THE antagonist? You must be more specific than that. You mean the one who was called his greatest adversary? Professor Moriarty? Who only actually appeared in two stories, and was merely referenced to being involved in several other things, and it wasn't until the Jeremy Brett version of the stories that he was even mentioned in any of the other canon stories. Moriarty was basically made by Doyle to kill off Holmes. If you are going by that then Professor James Moriarty and Col. Sebastian Moran are considered Sherlock Holmes's greatest adversaries. Agasa Hiroshi has nothing in common with either of those two names, other than their title. As Chek said, if you are insinuating that he is the BO boss due to his title, that is really worse than Kogorou. Chek's explaination about the name is spot on.

Lets see.... -Kenshiro (Hokuto no Ken) He is the ultimate badass, and all around nice guy. He travels the wasteland destroying bad guys and helping the weak. Why? Because he is awesome. -Shiho Miyano (Detective Conan) Sarcastic, intelligent, a scientist. Yeah... I like her because she is pretty much me only infinitely smarter -Firo Prochainezo (Baccano) I have no idea why I like him... I just do... -Jacuzzi Splot (Baccano) He is actually an interesting character. He is a smuggler, a coward, and a really nice guy even to those that are trying to kill him... Also his name is Jacuzzi Splot... -Nice Holystone (Baccano) Bomb freak and just a really fun character... -The three main characters from Shura no Toki - I'm cheating with this one because they are all descendants of each other and they all pretty much look and act the same. They go around looking for the strongest guy to fight. Why do I like them? hm... Because they work for food? I don't know. Again they were really likable characters and I'm a martial artist... so... yeah -Killua (HxH) Probably the only character of the series that I really liked. He was a killer trying to run away from his past and family. He was slightly evil but likable. -Kenzo Tenma (Monster) This guy loses everything and what does he do? Try to get justice by any means despite overwhelming odds against him. Every character in Naoki Urasawa's work is complex and amazing. -Shion (Shion no Ou)She is cute as a button and determined. -Lupin III - Do I need to explain this one? -Jigen Daisuke (Lupin III) same as above -Lets just say I like the four main characters of Lupin III, and should not need to explain further -Roger Smith (the Big O) ... now I'm getting lazy and don't want to explain. You know... I'm sure there are others, but I'm trying to avoid movies and series that I haven't seen in ages...

[Pairing] Vote for a non-Shinichi/Conan boyfriend for Haibara
Kyuu Nye replied to Black Demon's topic in General
I was really just being facetious. I do the same in my mind. Especially with Conan and Haibara. -
The new ending theme will start on August 6th and according to Off the Lock's twitter will be so for one month. It appears to be a tie-in with the album, but hey, it is the B'z and the B'z are awesome. More B'z in Detective Conan is always welcome! This is also the likely reason for OP #31 to be changed on that very same day. They probably figured that B'z for the OP AND ED would make the TV explode due to too much awesomeness. We will have the full version of the song before it appears in the anime as well as the album it is on releases 27 July 2011. I just wonder if they'll insert live footage of the B'z in the ED as they have been known to do with the OPs. Sources: Off the Lock and B'z Official

If you read my post, you'll realize that he gets on my nerves but I don't hate him. He is actually entertaining. I genuinely don't like most of the cast of DC... Most people have 10 people they don't like, I have 10 people that I do like.

[Pairing] Vote for a non-Shinichi/Conan boyfriend for Haibara
Kyuu Nye replied to Black Demon's topic in General
Has Chek seen this poll yet? I believe she'll take issue with Akai being on the poll TWICE. Once as Akai (if alive) and once as Okiya, because Okiya is Akai who is indeed alive. -
Considering that I am staff over at DCTP, it's hard for me to completely switch (and I will likely never). Also, I'll say this, neither is inherently better than the other, so there should be no rivalry (I think the "rivalry" is more of a joke than anything). Both have their functions, and purpose. If you think about it, this site would not exist without DCTP, or at least it would not be the same. Mainly because DCTP is the main source of English Detective Conan translations, manga and anime alike. DCTP is a great source for getting the translations and getting info about the series in general. We have a lot of fantastic members who bring us news fairly quickly. I'm not sure if it is the same here, as I haven't been here long enough. However, what will always be true is that DCTP will always be the place to find the English translations first. DCW is probably the best conglomeration of Detective Conan related information on the internet. Including theories (some of which I disagree with). Also I tend to disagree with some things in the Wiki, but it isn't the information itself, it rather how it is worded. Gosho likes to be vague, so there are instances in the Wiki where it is stated as fact, despite the source being rather vague. You can infer that is his intent, but I believe that it should be definite before it is worded like that. However, the fact is that I was using DCW to provide for debates long before I joined, because the Wiki is simply fantastic, and it has a plethora of information on just about every subject you could want.

Welcome I have two pieces of advice for you. Familiarize yourself with DCTP, since that is where most of the English translated Conan comes from. 2) Don't get afraid of the replies you receive here.

Your argument for the second half is extremely solid. There is no evidence of support teams, but the possibility remains. However, since there is no proof of that, I cannot use it to form a solid argument. And must concede that point. We don't fully know where Bourbon's interests lie. We know he is on the team to find Sherry. Now assuming that he is as smart as they are claiming, he would have first started to learn about her which includes looking through her research data. This means that Bourbon would have known about the drug's shrinking capability. In science all observances are recorded, and I'm sure other scientists knew it too. However, because of the fact that they used it on likely hundreds of mice, and only one shrank, they passed it onto field testing. Considering the extreme unlikelihood that it would have shrunk anyone they probably didn't consider it and wrote that off as an anomaly. However, Bourbon is extremely likely to have made that connection. I'm not entirely convinced who Bourbon is, or if he has even been introduced. Gosho seems intent on making Okiya seem as suspicious as possible (which I admit adds to your theory of him being NOT Bourbon, because Gosho just loves doing that, setting up false pretenses), so I agree that that is not the case. It is entirely possible that Bourbon is Scar Akai since Bourbon said Scar Akai is not Akai. The possibility remains that we have never seen him. Getting back to the main point as I have deviated slightly. If we assume that he is after Sherry, he likely investigated her and discovered these things as I stated. If he found out about Kudou he could have very well used that as a point to start investigating and found Haibara, and thus already knows, or at least has a very good idea. He probably has insufficient evidence to support his claims and thus hasn't acted on it. Because if the BO has done as much testing the mere possibility of shrinking is not enough because only one mouse was affected by the strange side effect, the mere fact that two people in such a short period of time and slim control number would have to be proven, and I'm not sure a likeness would be enough, especially since Gin confronted the adult Sherry at the party. (edit: btw, I've become very lazy, so I have lost my drive to make extremely lengthy replies like I used to )

So, is it just ironic that your location is "Kaito's Neighbor" in reference to his name, OR do you actually live next to Kaitou Kuroba? And if the latter, how are your jewels doing? Welcome Kaito Kido I hope you enjoy your stay.
-
For the first part... No, I'm referring to the Bourbon that has access to EVERYTHING, including the files of the declared dead, and after finding that Sherry declared Kudou dead, investigated and found there was no death certificate and no burial of him. And connected the dots to the likely conclusion that the little boy who appeared shortly after and started living with Kudo's childhood friend is in actuality Kudo, since it was known that the drug had the slim possibility of shrinking. Remember, in the appearance of Ai, she cited that it is likely that they would investigate everything that she did, because she is now seen as a traitor. If he is as good of a detective as Gosho is making him out to be, that line of reasoning shouldn't be too hard to come to. As for the latter argument, yes, Vermouth was usually there, but that does not mean that someone else noticed. We do not know if there were other BO members on stand-by, even Ai suggested that as a possibility. Like any good operation, there is always a possibility that there are other members, and communication lines. So if something seemed off they could have contacted other members. For instance Gin and Vodka were there too, since Gin killed Pisco (as far as I can recall) and nearly killed Shiho Miyano. How do we know that they didn't see the boy that lives at the Mouri Detective Agency. Just because Conan did not see them, does not mean that they did not see him.
-
Yeah, that is true... I didn't post there because I never wanted to get involved with the pairing wars. Different reasons! But in AiCon thread's defense all pairing threads are content-lite and post dense.
-
We know there are plenty of others in the Org... Those are just the two main. I suppose Vodka is too dumb, but the others.... someone must have noticed... It is a large Org...
-
I know that was intended to be a strikethrough, but it didn't do its job well

Simple DCTP > DCW
