  1. You shouldn't get character philosophies confused with the author's philosophies. Detective Conan is written with a certain demographic in mind. So writing everything in black and white when it comes to morals is a necessity. I'm fairly certain Gosho not only recognizes, but would use the gray area if his target audience was not kids. So, yes, in DC the two main detectives in DC are idealists, and have ideological philosophies. However Gosho has proven that suicide is not out of his realm of ability. He has done it twice. The first with the Yoko Stalker, and the second with Moonlight Sonata. You also have to take into account that it is far easier to write mysteries for murder than suicide. Please refer to the TV Tropes page Always Murder for more information about that. In the end, it isn't that Gosho doesn't want to write about suicides, because he has. There is likely more complicated reasons that you would have to ask Gosho himself. However, I would suspect that it has something to do with the morals he wants to convey through Detective Conan (killing is bad, even yourself), and it is easier and more interesting to write about murder than suicide. Edit: replying to Shin-chan and OP This is also true... This has to do with the perception of suicide in the culture. In Japan suicide was, and in some ways still is, seen as an honorable way to end a disgrace. I know there are more than a few ghost stories in Japan that have to do with suicides. It all comes down to perception. In the west, suicide is frowned upon, and always has been. Even in our equivalent of feudal times (medieval) suicide by a knight was seen as cowardly. So naturally our literature reflected this and suicide was less prevalent than murder. Which is why most LITERATURE is mostly murder and robbery mysteries in the west. Where as in Japan deaths were quite often suicides, because of Bushido. So for them it would be more interesting for it to seem like a murder and turn out to be a suicide which was more believable. How this affects Gosho is another story. I cannot personally confirm that the prevalence of suicide based mysteries in Japanese literature lead him to go mostly for murder, but we do know that Gosho is influenced by both types of mystery, Japanese and Western alike. If I were to guess his motives in how he proceeded, he used those two suicide cases to set up to refer back to meet his own goals for the moral standing of the manga. As I said in the relpy to Shuichi Akai, Gosho is very clear in that he wants to make killing of all types seem bad. Had he not had those two suicide cases, he could not have done so. Hell, the only criminal to not meet justice is the one thief in his series. Had he wanted all crime to be called into his moral goals he would have had at least another thief (one which he did not care so much about as KK) and have them arrested by the intervention of Kogorou/Conan (setting up pretense for that would not be hard with a private detective). As for OP, NCIS and CSI are also totally different sorts of mystery shows. A better comparison would be say Psych or Monk. They show more the science than the detective work, and they make their arrests based on that, where as Psych and Monk aim to show the abilities of the detective, and thus they never really make it to the lab, or it is less shown. And on that note... I will humbly request that you cease and desist watching CSI... They destroy science and the public perception of how Crime Scene Investigation works. NCIS sorta does too, but they are at least closer to how it really works. PS: I think I'm done now
  2. Dude... No offense... but you have got to stop double posting... You been here two days and you have 75 posts... most are in the same threads... You can say everything you need to in 1 post and use multiquote to respond to multiple people in 1 post as well...

  3. It is always surprising to me that a great mangaka like Naoki Urasawa flies under the radar here in America. In Japan he is critically acclaimed, and has been since the 1980s. Not many of his series have been made into anime, and probably the most popular that has been is Monster. However he has accrued 10 awards during his time as a mangaka, mainly for his two most famous works, Monster and 20th Century Boys. (Both of which hold high places on my favorite manga list, yes even higher than DC) (Oh and btw.... Gosho Aoyama has only won two awards in comparison) He is a master of suspense and character development. He takes you on a journey with each story he tells and will keep you on the edge of your seat if that is his intent. If anything I just want people to look up some of the manga by this great mangaka if nothing else. I know that it won't be exciting enough for some people, but I hope as fans of Detective Conan, excitement and action are not the only criteria the people of this forum use to gauge the worth of a manga on. My favorite so far has been 20th Century Boys. However I have only started on PLUTO, which is a realistic retelling of the most iconic manga/anime of all time (yes of ALL TIME) Tetsua Atom (Astro Boy). So that may very well change, and I hope it does, as I love the work of Osamu Tezuka (and I'll probably make a tribute topic to him soon enough, because he deserves one as the creator of modern anime and manga).

  5. Реците то неко ко може да ми да титле

  6. Honestly, its more coincidental than ironic. Of just the first 7, the 7th is the worst. Followed by 1 and 2... (Granted, had I not read Agatha Christie, I'd have found the second movie to be better)
  7. I can't agree with anything said there... I just can't, but that is not the reason I'm quoting! The reason is that I shall reveal to you something very important about DCTP and their needs regarding M15... Now back to the topic at hand... My favorite movie is 5... This is followed by 3, 4 and 6. The exact order changes every time I see them, but lately 5 has been pretty set on top.
  8. Funny != good. Nor is it reason not to hate it. It wasn't even bad funny, it was just bad... To me there were more reasons to hate it than like it. Read my earlier posts to find out why <3 Namely: post 1 and post 2. See when something is funny, I don't think it should be aggravating or anything... I do recall laughing twice and snickering maybe once. I laughed when Conan was defenestrated, and at the very end. I snickered when they were on the ground. That isn't really funny really. Conan movies aren't really intended to be funny, or at least they shouldn't be. They should strive to be engaging and interesting. Its a detective show, the main goal should be to get you to think, not laugh. So either way it was a failure of a movie, even if it was funny (which it wasn't imo). Also... why do people insist on defending movies in a thread that is intended to point out what the worst conan movie is? If a person doesn't like a movie, defending it won't change anything to that person... If you like a certain movie, great, there is a topic for that... two in fact... "Favorite movie" and "Vote your Favorite Movie." Talk about how great M14 is there, while the rest of us who didn't like it discuss why it is bad here.
  9. I did it... Though a bit late... Sorry for ruining your master plan

    Durarara

I'm watching it for a second time to see if my impression from a while back is still the same (which basically means up to ep 12 then goes down hill). However in rewatching it, I have to say... I love these creators... They did the most awesome name drop EVER in ep 10. Edit: Finished rewatching it... Still think it could have been loads better. They didn't answer SO MUCH. They need another 24 episodes to finish everything off nice and proper (ok that is going a bit far, maybe 12). I still loved it up to ep 12, after that they really needed to complete some story lines. Some things are fine left open, but when you create more questions than answers... there is something wrong. So... good series... Still not as good as Baccano IMO.
  11. Second watching of Durarara... It's amazing what you catch the second time around. I refer to them dropping the name "Baccano" in a very interesting way.

      I LOVE DURARARA!! <333333333333333

XD Really? Baccano is also used... :P

  12. You expect me to be positive in a thread called the "worst movie"? I'm plenty positive about things I like... The topic is about the movies we don't like... If it was the movies we liked it would be a different story altogether. So what if I dislike half of the movies? That is my right as a viewer. Just because I like Detective Conan does not mean I have to like every single little thing about it, nor do I have to like anything that the Anime team puts out on their own. Hell, I don't even have to like everything Gosho puts out.
  13. Allow me to explain why there are actually no flaws in my logic... Bear with me, because I'm going to try to not be condescending or derogatory towards you or your explanation as to why I was wrong (doing so will be really difficult for me). Alright... You are entitled to your opinion, but don't attack my analysis of the movie lest you have some evidence as to why I am wrong. Its the rules of debate. If you don't I'll just systematically take it apart to further prove I am right. The ball is in your court AJ M.
  14. I haven't seen M-11 in a while, but I do remember it being horrible on multiple levels. What probably bothered me the most was the Indiana Jones-esque plot line with no intent on showing us any mystery. The villains were laughable, the premise was a joke, and there was no mystery (which is bad for a mystery show). It is my #1 hated movie. To answer AJ M I'll explain why I personally hated Movie 14. Lets start... Wow... that became longer than I expected... Now why macguffins are bad without proper experience or skill to utilize. Basically a macguffin is a plot tool to move the plot forward, and it serves no other purpose. Now, in the hands of a skilled director or writer this means that the story will be either extremely interesting or at least engaging. So at the end of the movie you'll be content with the adventure or the story told as is... Hell unless they reintroduce the macguffin you'll likely not remember nor will you care. Sometimes it is even used in comedy like Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Many action movies use macguffins but the action is good and the plot is usually consistent. However you don't CHANGE the identity of the macguffin at the end. That is supposed to be the driving force. If the macguffin is a threat, then making it not a threat REMOVES IMPACT, and defeats the purpose of it. Really the more I think about it... the closer M14 comes to being my #1 most hated movie. Right now in the running are M10, M11 (obviously) M13 and M14. M11 and M14 seem like the two best choices.
  15. Ok... my mind instantly added "not just anybody," upon reading the title. And as a point of fact, I am from DCTP and do not have a custom title... Though I'm more than certain that I could get one if I asked (really nicely of course). <3 But as far as I have heard you need 500 approved posts to get such a title...
  16. Assuming you mean OSTs, because everything else is merely songs cut for TV length for the OP/ED (usually). Cowboy Bebop OST is top of the list. This is followed by Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad OST. I could continue on listing at least 10 OST that were just jaw droppingly amazing, but none equal to those two for different reasons. So many anime have great OST though...
  17. Indeed, BUT I found a way out, which is why I can reply to you like this... I'm trying to keep it quiet so that none of the other Time Lords get privy.

  18. Tom Baker is probably the best overall Doctor. Though I have to say I love the oddity of Colin Baker. Then you have Tennant at the top of the new series, that is not to say he didn't have some horrible episodes (and the worst ending of any doctor ever), he is probably the best. Matt Smith is good, but I think Moffat is screwing things up big time. It is hindering Smith's ability to grow into the part. Eccleston was the weakest of the new series, BUT he had the best season. There was not a bad episode in the bunch.

  20. What Parkur says its true. It comes down to something that is known as a "legal issue." The license holders complained, and thus the watch area had to be shut down. It will eventually be removed or changed... Or at least that seems to be the plan... And welcome to DCW.
  21. Judging from you avatar Chekhov MacGuffin will like you.... My first thought to your topic name was this btw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkDPM5j_6hk Welcome to DCW. If you are not insane already you shall become insane... And likely will have more fun because of it <3
  22. The problem is that he really didn't develop... He started to... then he reverted back. It was the most annoying and disappointing thing Gosho could have done in the London Arc. I hope that was just a fluke and his character development was not hindered... But as it stands... I still hate the character for various reasons...
  23. Before I welcome you, I would like to bring to your attention that double posting (or in your case multi-posting) is frowned upon... In the future, if you would be so kind as to use "multiquote" button. Basically you select the posts you wish to reply to and then click "add reply." Then you no longer have to do multiple posts .
