  1. I agree completely, almost all culprits in DC are basically good people who were brought to crime by despair and the impunity of the real villains who later play the role of the "victims". Murder may be wrong, but they kill one evil person, while the victims just spread evil ariund them and ruin many lives, often even kill innocents. In my opinion, there is absolutely no need to be harsh on them like Conan is. They are going to jail and he should be satisfied with that. When he is not and starts crushing them morally with his hypocritical robotic preachings, he doesn't seem like a "good guy" at all. Where was his "justice" when the "victims" wreaked havoc with impunity?

But it's one thing to guess culprits by analyzing the clues, and it's another if they are just obvious thanks to the stereotype "the most nice and apparently good guy is the guilty party". I mean, I almost never analyze the clues because either don't notice them and am not good at it anyway, but I guess the murderers right in 90% of the cases in DC. Also, NOTHING happens in DC casually and by chance. Even if you see a character not wanting to part with his umbrella, refusing to take off the jacket, or spilling some soup on his clothes, even if it happens before the murder and I don't understand what role exactly will this thing play, I can still be sure it's a key clue and (what's much more important) whoever was involved in this detail is surely the murderer. Kindaichi, if I recall correctly, at least throws in details that may be false leads and aren't necessarily connected to the murderers themselves. It's one thing it the author makes the murderer known from the beginning on purpose, then it's just a different genre, not the mystery one, but it's another thing if the author tries to make a genuine mystery, but makes the murderer too obvious even to lazy viewers like me. To me, this is a disappointment, to be honest, I still like DC, but watch it now for other reasons than the mysteries because it has become way too easy to guess the murderer just by pointing the finger at the "less annoying and the most nice and polite character" and say "this must be the murderer, he appears too nice to be genuine!".
  3. Please, put the names under spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sympathetic to remorseful murderers too, most of the victims in the series are scumbags, but I don't want to know their identities beforehand, in case I haven't seen the episode.
  4. Chekhov, but why were you disappointed with some Kindaichi cases compared to Detective Conan (don't know if you missed my post on the previous page)? As I said, in my opinion while DC is superior in the development of the world, the characters and general background atmosphere, from the detective/mystery point of view Kindaichi is much more complicated and it's very important not to be able to guess the murderer in a detective story (sorry I don't remember if I already asked you this question before). Will answer in kindaichi topic elsewhere on forum - here http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/forum/topic/1102-the-kindaichi-case-files/?p=359488 - Chek.
  5. I would like to disagree. Kindaichi's cases in my opinion are better from the mystery/detective point of view, there are more suspects, more episodes for each plot, the stories are more complicated and it's harder to guess the murderer. DC, on the other hand, feels superior to Kindaichi in terms of how well the background world and the characters are made, the world feels more "alive", or so I think.
  6. Shouldn't Eri be included as well? According to this http://lounge.moviecodec.com/manga/detective-conan-discussion-thread-311382/5
  7. I may be wrong, but I always thought Hitler persecuted Jewish people because he thought of them as "an inferior race", not because of following a certain religion. I mean, if a person of ethnic Jewish origins was an atheist or a follower of a religion different from Judaism, they would have been repressed anyway. To be honest, the only reference to religion among nazis that I ever heard of is that the SS wore the "Gott mit uns" (God with us) writing on their belts. And I forgot to say yesterday: my whole sympathy and condolences to the suicide victims you were talking about. Even being religious, I disagree completely with those religious people who say that suicide is an "unforgivable sin". In my opinion, people who kill themselves have a very serious reason and almost always deserve more compassion than anybody else.
  8. I disagree. The war in Iraq was more over Saddam's oil than anything else. WWII has been fought over many reasons, but Hitler's craziness didn't include religion, but mostly racial prejudices and banal thirst for power. The Soviet Union attacked Afghanistan, and USSR was a purely atheistic state.
  9. I agree, I can understand those people too, also because many of those romances aren't developed in details and don't really "touch the heart", Gosho did dedicate more space only to Shinichi/Ran, and even this isn't exactly developing lately, and others even less. I find it more cute when there are childhood flashbacks and the children aren't tsundere to each other. And of course, it's better if the relationship born in the innocent period of childhood is properly explored and shown in all its innocence and purity, and how solid it will be, etc, unfortunately it isn't always done, therefore making the childhood love seem like a lazy writing stereotype. Also, the fact the childhood friends (especially girls) in anime are often tsundere, and this seems to me quite a weird attitude towards somebody they love.
  10. I don't remember the forum to be honest, maybe could have found it if I wanted to, prefer to just forget it; however, I swear the quote is almost litteral, it's not like I am making things up to make people feel more sorry for me (not saying I suspected you of suspecting me of such a thing) Speaking of Kaito/Aoko, to be honest I would have preferred Kaito to be more respectful of Nakamori, as incompetent he may be, just for Aoko's sake, he is the father of the girl he likes after all, and at least doesn't take bribes
  11. I understand. It's good that there are things that make people emotional. Unfortunately, I tend to be more receptive of negative ones, and take fictional tragedy much more seriously that I myself would have preferred to. Also, it's rather difficult to find people who agree or at least show understanding towards my idealization of certain things (those childhood friends love stories being the n.1). I mean, hearing "I wish childhood romances would die out" is hurtful enough, but reading such things almost every day (without even searching for them on purpose) is depressing, almost makes feel like an outcast. I am grateful to people on this forum by the way, for showing understanding even during disagreements, on most other forums it went worse, except for the Italian DC one maybe, but even there some disagreements were heated and personal. P.S. People, tell me when you feel I talk too much of this childhood love theme, I was once told on a forum I shouldn't raise the subject everywhere
  12. I respect your opinion, but I personally am too tired to be in tears because of sad endings in the fiction I liked. I continue to hope there will be no reason to cry in DC.
  13. I would like a good twist too, but a strictly detective/mystery one, not in the romantic part of the story. If only Eri and Kogoro got back together, I would really want Ran to have a happy family.... there are many other things I would like, but this one I think is the least likely to happen, although hopefully it's just me being a pessimist.
  14. I would definitely prefer a happy ending. There is so much sadness in real life and so little reason to be happy due to psychological depression (often without practical reasons important enough that wouldn't be considered ridiculous by other people), that I like surrounding myself exclusively with positively charged fiction that give hope and happiness, no matter how non-realistic this fiction may be. I may seem crazy, but I am so used to DC already that if one of the major plotlines or childhood friend romantic pairings ends up tragically it will be almost personal for me. I know I may seem a crybaby by saying that, but I am not exaggerating, I honestly say what I feel.
  15. There are also disagreements between whether Ai would better return adult at the end or stay as a child. Both possibilities have potentials, but I am already used to her character in the child form, would have preferred if she stayed little and lived a new life, happy this time (of course only in case that is consensual on her part, not forced). On the other hand, people say this would be like living a lie and fleeing from real life. I personally agree there can be interesting new plots involving her as an adult and working with law enforcement on serious cases, but I personally don't think that fleeing from the previous life would be that wrong. After all, her life wasn't exactly happy. If the boss turns out to be her father, like many fans suppose, it will be even worse for her. So I am torn between the 2 possibilities. Do you think it's better if she returns adult or stays a child?
  16. I agree, separating them doesn't make sense. But I remember talking to fans who can't stand Shinichi in his original form because he is more a jerk and arrogant when adult, but Conan is considered cute when he is little and has to pretend childish behavior. I partially agree with them, but still wouldn't separate the 2 in the poll. By the way, even though Ai is a character I respect, getting a TRIPLE of votes comparing to the following 2 is an exaggeration, imho. She is an interesting character, but not a universal masterpiece. Only Genta can claim that title
  17. I don't get it why some fans like her more in her Shiho form than in the Ai form. We have barely seen her as an adult, and the combination of the mentality of a grown-up genius with a child's physical appearance is more intriguing imo. Same with Shinichi and Conan (although in this case there is difference also in personalities, Conan is funnier).
  18. I hope you are right, it's just I am a pessimist. Like somebody said: "life is a disease, always with a lethal conclusion" (or something like that, it's a literal translation from what I heard in Russian )
  19. Of course they have the right to do so, it's just that due to my paranoia I am worried Gosho starts admiring them too much for their devotion and decides to do them a favor for either compassion or business/popularity reasons. I don't want to be egoistical of course, and understand the AiCon fans would be upset with a ShinRan ending, I would be sorry for them, it's just I am a big fan of childhood friend romances and in most anime I saw childhood friends don't win. So for me all those childhood friend pairings in DC, if all have a happy ending, would be like a moral "compensation" for the previous disappointments. To me in this particular aspect DC is like an oasis in the desert, if the main childhood friend pairing lost even in this work of fiction, I would really stop to watch anime and read manga at all, because this innocent kind of romance is one of the few ideals I really believe in. I apologize for saying this for the 100th time, since by now the whole forum probably knows my position on the romantic aspect of the series, it's just this is my whole point of looking at the series (apart from the detective aspect): it's very rare when first love lasts forever, and even more rare when this first love started in childhood (usually in real life children don't feel like that as far as I know, boys dislike playing with girls, girls think boys are rude and annoying etc.; hope I am wrong, but that's the impression I get)
  20. This is a good forum by the way, it's a pity users from here can't participate because of the language; it would be interesting to know the fans' opinions in different countries; I especially wonder how is the situation in Japan: who hates/likes which character, why did they stop asking questions that make sense in interviews with Gosho etc. I can read Russian, English and Italian forums (I am Russian living in Italy and study English and German) but unfortunately my German isn't yet good enough to read serious discussions, I am still at the level of children's books, otherwise I have to use a dictionary for 1/3 of words (maybe 1/4, don't know)
  21. It's this one: http://detectiveconan.forumcommunity.net/?t=35597270 Don't get me wrong: it's not like people here insulted each other or used foul words or curses. It's just there was a really passionate debate where people didn't want any compromises and were trying to bash the character with enormous posts that evolved into a kind of discussion like "my philosophical theory is superior and your is just child play". Initially it was funny because why on earth giving to a secondary character such attention, but later, with those pseudo-intellectual bashing of Kazuha, I just felt sorry for her, even though she isn't really my favorite character. However, if you learn Italian, PLEASE don't bump this topic! They will hang me if they get to know I am involving more people into that (since it took a lot of force by the mods to calm things down)
  22. I used to think that ConanAi vs ShinichiRan was the most heated argument in the DC communities ever, but now it's on the 2nd place in my mind. No comparison with what happened on an Italian forum in a topic dedicated to Kazuha; users (even some mods if I remember correctly) wrote posts long like encyclopedias trying to prove Kazuha's uselessness and how much much better would the manga be without her. The minority including me defended her because I don't think she is THAT annoying, after all the jealosy scenes involving Heiji are supposed to be comic relief (even though in my opinion aren't as good as Yamamura's moments). At the end the thread was about to explode due to things getting personal, other mods had to threaten everybody to lock down the thread and said the same even in the chat/tagboard above the forum. Really, how can anyone take a secondary character THAT seriously? Kazuha isn't among my favorites, but I would never think a discussion about here could become worse that Ai vs Ran
  23. Fan wars are interesting to read, I agree, but sometimes it's not funny anymore when characters get openly bashed. Especially when people say it's immature to be forever faithful to the first love who may never return (intending Ran waiting for Shinichi) or that "childhood friend romances should die out". I think only people with a heart of stone can say that. What can be more sublime that eternal faithfulness or more cute than children falling in love (innocent love, not lust which adult people sometimes confuse with love).
  24. But it's not like I hate her or something, it's mostly the ShinRan vs ConAi wars that make me suspicious of her, like "what if Gosho sees how many Ai fans there are, who say that they continue to wish for a ConanAi ending even though they lost all hope, and Gosho becomes touched and moved by their hope and changes the originally intended ending at Ran's expense". I honestly have no idea how would I look at Ai if she was NEVER considered a romantic interest for Conan at Ran's expense. My problem is that I started reading about these fan wars even before I watched the first episode where Ai appeared, so it made me prejudiced unfortunately.
  25. 10 is a too big number for favorite characters, the absolute favorites are always few (at least for me), but if I have to choose 10, that would be: Genta Ran Yamamura Mitsuhiko the cat Goro Yukiko Agasa Heiji Vodka most of the murderers in the series (don't know myself if I am serious or not in this case) So no Ai in my list, either.
