That Shinichi and Ran should have a son named Conan is a pretty popular idea among fans. I like it too.

I don't think the criminals are realistic because usually people don't bother with all those gadgets like fishing lines passing through the keyhole, then tied to something to activate something else etc. In real life they just shoot you or break your head in some dark street corner, without bothering to execute a "perfect crime". But on the other hand the show would be more boring if it was completely realistic in this aspect, because then the crimes would be simpler. Or the fact that 99% murders are based on revenge, how realistic is that? Where are murders for power, money, jealosy, elimination of witnesses etc? Or why do they always confess, never have the attitude like "I am not talking without my lawyer"? I understand, this isn't relevant to Genta's character, but you asked why I don't consider it realistic. As for Genta and others, I just think that if there are all these unrealistic things (starting with drugs that can turn adults into children and professor Agasa's gadgets), why not introduce another non-realistic element, like Conan teaching the children (at least Mitsuhiko who seems more clever) how to investigate, just to have a doctor Watson like sidekick. Maybe the comic relief provided by the Detective boys would assume a new, fresh form, become less boring. By the way, if you happen eventually to remember at least one case where it was Genta and not Mitsuhiko trying to be the smart one or the leader, please let me know. However, please don't take my attitude as belligerent just because I am defending Genta, it's just it's so funny how many fans seem to genuinely hate him as if he was public enemy n.1 (not you, you are quite moderate in criticizm of Genta, but I happened to read many funny things by anti-Genta fans all over internet).

When? Maybe it's my bad memory, but I don't remember a single episode of Genta trying to affirm his leadership. Mitsuhiko maybe a couple of times told other not to listen to Conan and wanted to be cool on his own, but Genta? And I blame Conan for not wanting them around because there is no real danger, it's an anime, not even a realistic one the criminals they are against are a joke, even the black organization, considering the fact the whole gang is full of spies/ double agents and aren't able to deal with anybody quickly. I mean, the series is very interesting and I am a fan of it, but when Conan says he keeps everything secret to protect others.... Give me a break, the black organization would be in danger itself if Ran, Kogoro and the Detective Boys found out the truth. Ran would just kick them all to death and Genta (if he was still drawn with a pointed head like in the first episodes) would stab Gin below the waist with this head of his. And Chianti and Korn would have tried to shoot at them, but would hit each other instead

I never get it why people blame him for allegedly "wanting to be the leader" and "take Conan's place". In my opinion, they confuse him with Mitsuhiko in this case, and anyway I think Conan doesn't act like a true friend to the whole group of Detective Boys. Genta is still my favorite character, even after all these episodes, along with Ran and Yamamura. He also reminds me of my late cat, by both physical appearance and continuous hunger. And all BLASPHEMERS should beware of the divine, human and alien justice that will eventually punish them for criticizing Genta!!!!!

I would suggest him to go to Rosarno (a city in southern Italy) and start fighting the Pesce 'ndrangheta clan. "Pesce" means "fish" in Italian, so it would be interesting to see if their surname would scare him or he isn't that superstitious.

I like her because of her good heart, honesty, courage (she saved Ai while being shot at, even though she fears ghosts) and faithfulness. Not many people would wait for years for a lost love, and in my opinion only THIS kind person can honestly claim they really know what LOVE is. Searching for a substitute for a disappeared or dead lover is in my opinion a sign the "love" wasn't real or serious. The only excuse in my opinion would be if thid first lover would turn out to be a scumbag. Also, apart from liking Ran as a character, I am the type of person who doesn't believe in the concept of "fully and sincerely getting over the first love" ever (if it was really love and not something else, like lust or admiration etc). Therefore, I would not only be disappointed, but depressed to the extreme if Shinichi left Ran, his childhood friend and first love, for Haibara or whoever else, no matter how well drawn and presented this character would be. But, I must notice, if Ai was Shinichi's first love, I would have rooted for THEM to be together, even though I would have still liked Ran's character.

Kogoro has become annoying since they changed his voice. The first one was perfect, I still can't get used to the other one. The MWAHAHAHAHA doesn't sound right now.

Yes, but what I mean is that, even if the thefts are always undone by returning the object, so basically there is no crime, but in the "battle of intellects" Conan always loses. I think it would be better if sometimes he won, sometimes lost. Maybe he could arrest Kid, but then he manages to escape from prison (even though no judge would have given him prison time anyway, since it's just a prank: taking an object for a couple of minutes and then putting it back ).

Yes, predictable is boring, but Detective Conan is also a collection of detective mysteries, I think that while in romance predictability can be excused, in murder mysteries it's a disaster: and in most of the cases we usually have the same pattern: extremely "evil" victim, "revenge" motive, 3 suspects, of which the most sympathetic and apparently less "bad" is guilty. I have been wondering forever, why does Gosho avoid other murder motives, like killing for inheritance, jealosy, power etc? As for anime/manga, maybe it's just I haven't read that many, so got the impression childhood sweethearts usually lose. In manga you are right probably, but in anime I found only very few where the childhood friend has a "definitive win". I only remember Lamune, Hani hani, the Rihoko arc in Amagami, and the Haruka arc in Photo Kano. Could you suggest others by the way, I would be grateful, if here it's off-topic, maybe in PM?

I would have chosen Genta or Mitsuhiko since they have the most joyful and carefree lives. Wouldn't have chosen to be Kaito Kid even though he always wins, just don't want to be associated with the character not even for 3 days

I hope they will get back together, will be very sad if that's not going to happen. But I think childhood sweetheart relationships are the best, because childhood is the most innocent period and people become closer when they grow up together. Even if there are too many of them in DC, it would be a unique case, because unfortunately in most anime and manga childhood friends lose to other characters or there is a harem/open ending. I hope DC will stay as a sort of little "childhood sweetheart paradise" Even though I usually am not romantic or sentimental at all, but for childhood sweetheart romances I make an exception. It's like one of the last pure ideals in the corrupt society.

I don't remember if I already posted that, but the character that annoys me the most is Kaito Kid: he never goest to jail in DC, never loses to anybody, and more often this happens, more full of himself he becomes. Lupin III at least sometimes goes to jail or finds himself in funny situations. Conan basically accomplishes nothing in Kid cases: he doesn't manage to PREVENT the theft, and that means Kid has won because after that he returns the object anyway. The fact that Conan reveals who he was disguised as also doesn't count because Kid would have probably done it himself too; since the theft is committed, he doesn't care about being unmasked, since he doesn't go to jail.

This is anime/manga, everything is possible: he could teach them something, make Mitsuhiko his detective heir But seriously, he could at least pretend he cares about their feelings and doesn't want to provoke envy. At least, to give some random explanations. That other case you mentioned is one of my favorites too, even though it's a filler. The thief who said the name "Detective Boys" made him so afraid!

Yes, that's right. By the way, I didn't get the impression it's Genta who tries to overcome Conan, I think it's Mitsuhiko more often. I remember there was one case (involving a body hidden in a sofa which was being thrown away) he even got the detective conclusions right.

But Genta is right to be envious. Conan treats him, Ayumi and Mitsuhiko haughtily, not like a real friend, always leaves them behind during the investigations and never, ever tries to invent a reason to justify this to them or to pretend he cares about what they feel. It's natural they show resentment.

Faithfulness is more than worthy of being praised. Of course "modern" people wouldn't understand that.

I agree they may be considered too many for a single work (Detective Conan). I can only speak for my personal opinion, and I look at it like on a more global scale: since in most anime series the childhood friends don't get the happy ending, the main characters usually either choose someone else or there is an open/harem ending, so I see DC as a "compensation" for all these previous mass disappointments. And, even though there are so many of them, there is no guarantee Gosho will make a closure for every single story (especially for Heiji x Kazuha and Kogoro x Eri), and I only like happy endings lately (too tired of sad endings in real life). As for Shiratori/Kobayashi and Chiba/Naeko, I still think every bond between children is a very positive thing, even though these specific stories aren't really something "unique". However, I think that Shiratori's long memory of his first love after only a single meeting during childhood is something worthy of approval, even though he was mistaken and was annoying while stalking Sato. However, I respect your points of view, I am only trying to explain myself.

I know that statement is a little extremist on my part, it's just that, while wandering on internet, I accumulated so many bad memories of reading hateful messages about childhood friend romances, that I became over-protective towards them to the point to becoming indifferent towards any other kind of romances. I respect them however, for example I certainly wish a happy ending for Sato x Takagi.

I like childhood friend pairings, even too much (I just don't feel any emotions if 2 people in love don't have childhood memories to share together, no matter how well the non-childhood pairing is done), and I think it's sad that the Chiba x Naeko pairing is hated so much. They are nothing special, but aren't bad or stupid.

I would prefer if all the unexpected plot twists happened in the detective part of the series, while the romantic part stayed as it is; I don't think it would be boring at all. I would be really upset if any of the characters changed the romantic interest and switched from the first love to somebody else (I don't like that happening even in real life to be honest, so I hope at least in DC it won't end up like that). But I hope he will improve the detective stories, so it will be harder to guess the murderers. In the detective part of the manga, more unexpected twists happen, better it is, here I agree.
