Situation

A routine afternoon at the library turns into the hunt for a corpse after an attendant turns up missing. When Conan and the Detective Boys try to solve the mystery by staying after-hours, they find themselves trapped, in the dark, and not alone. Will they catch the killer before he catches them?

Shuji Tsugawa is the culprit and he hid the corpse above the elevator. Tamada discovered the illegal drugs hidden inside the fake books which means Tsugawa is a drug dealer and that's why Tsugawa killed him to keep him quiet.

The victim was put on top of the elevator box, adding unseen weight.

Tsugawa killed Tamada because Tamada found the narcotics hidden in the mysterious books.

After finishing the case, Conan walked back with the Detective Boys, thinking that should be his final case in Conan's form, as he will be drinking Paikaru afterward and turning back to Shinichi Kudo permanently. However, a second round of Paikaru didn't work for him, and the next day Conan appeared to be hung over in front of the Detective Boys.

Trivia

• The inspector that appears during Megure's questioning of Tsugawa has Takagi's earlier character design but he wasn't voiced by Wataru Takagi. He was voiced by Isshin Chiba who later would go on to inspire the creation of and provide the voice for Kazunobu Chiba.
• This is the first time that Ayumi is a target of a murderer, and almost killed.
• This is the first time crime that takes place in a library.
• This is the second episode to feature narcotics smuggling. The first was Moonlight Sonata Murder Case.
• Genta weights double Mitsuhiko's weight.
• The weight of the four kids was no more than 100 kilograms.
• This is the second time that the Detective Boys manage to catch the culprit for the police. The first time was in The Coded Map of the City Case.
• The first episode that Ayumi is almost strangled.
• This is the first episode that shows Conan having to do any first grade work, although if all he can do is insult the little kid books, and calling them "insepid," in a city library, and not even the school library, he did not think about leaving the little kid books and search for more grown up books, that do not bore him to tear. In short, let the teacher figure out that he may be bored in her class by choosing a harder book for his book report.
