Case

While looking for a place to eat, Conan, Kogoro, and Ran run into Okida, the CEO of Bigwood Software, and his secretary, Miura; when Conan notices that Okida has dropped some medication, he points it out and returns it to him, receiving the man's thanks — though Okida immediately afterwards harshly scolds his driver, Tokito, for failing to notice the medicine slipping out of his pocket. Just as Okida attempts to give something to Conan, Kogoro steps forward and hands him his business card. The following day, Inspector Megure summons Kogoro to Okida's home: the businessman has died in his sleep, and since Kogoro's business card was found among his personal belongings, Megure wants to understand why he had it with him. Evidence

• In the Okida family home, everything seems to be controlled by a computer, from the opening of the doors to the air conditioning.
• Conan observes that Okida sweated excessively during the night, considering that the house is set to maintain a specific cool temperature.
• Conan notices some withered flowers on a table and finds the receipt for the bouquet in the trash. The flowers had been purchased the day before, so it makes no sense for them to be so wilted already. Upon examining the chocolates on the table, Conan observes that they have all melted, forming clumps.
• Okida’s sweat, the flowers, and the chocolates suggest that the temperature in the house changed the night Okida died; however, Aslan, the Himalayan cat, seems to be fine. According to what Ran learned from Tokito, cats like Aslan require an environment with a relatively controlled temperature.
• Miura explains to Conan that Tokito used to work as a programmer for Okida, until he and a friend decided to strike out on their own and start their own company. The venture, however, proved to be a failure, and Okida "benevolently" allowed Tokito to return to work for him as a driver.
• Tokito appears furious as he recalls a "certain individual" who drove his business partner to suicide. Conan asks if that "certain individual" was Okida, but Tokito does not answer.
• Agasa confirms Conan's theory that someone could breach the Okida family's computer system to alter its settings, although the operation would require truly advanced programming skills.
• When Conan visits Tokito's apartment he steps on an unusual "flake" thing. Upon returning to Agasa's house, he realizes he stepped on something else: a cat hair.

Conclusion

Thanks to Agasa, Conan realizes that Tokito must have programmed Okida's computer system to rapidly heat the house and then cause a sudden drop in temperature; it was precisely this temperature fluctuation that triggered Okida's heart attack.

The crumbly fragment Conan had stepped on in Tokito's apartment turned out to be a piece of cat litter. The cat hair found on Conan's sock also came from his visit to Tokito's home: to keep Aslan from getting caught up in his revenge plot, Tokito had taken the cat back to his own place to protect her.

Motive

Tokito's motive for murdering Okida was revenge for his business partner, who had committed suicide.
